“High up on the hill just to the North of the M62 about a mile east of where it becomes Britain's most elevated section of motorway. The pub is pretty much where the small conurbation of Sowood ends on its northern side before the roads dip down into the Calder Valley below, as such the pub commands spectacular views and you might find people frequenting the seats by its back window here first for this purpose. A very traditional pub in style, it's a food focussed pub and has a reputation for this with all its tables from front to back suited for this purpose, as such it's not really an ale place with just a couple of hand pumps sporting some ordinary cask ales. There are outside tables out front and at its rear if you want to come here for the view. Has its own car par at the rear.“

“Small selection, having only 4 handpulls - and two of those are the same. Food, however, is cracking here. So if you’re after a bite to eat, with a real-ale alongside... as long as you’re not disappointed by lack of choice in the ale, you’ll enjoy your meal.“
