“The Castle Inn was built as a memorial to the Battle of Edge Hill in the local iron stone, it looks imposing from the outside and has a wonderful aspect over the old battle site, now an ammunition storage area. The interior has been completely altered recently, ripping the heart out of the old building, obviously my opinion, to create much greater dining areas. There are some small areas for drinkers, but there is a feeling of being ’in the way’. The main emphasis is on dining, going for the Gastro Pub market, there was a large party of us and we had very mixed experiences in the food quality, mine unfortunately on the lower end, it didn’t help that an attempt / mistake was made of over charging us by £100, picked up on only by ourselves. The beer was in good order but only 3 Real Ales of the Hook Norton range were on offer, no guest ales, there was also a cider, not tried. This was once a regular haunt, having had many marvellous meals and experiences here, but would I return now, sorry no.“
