“Really nice large pub in the village, 2 of the 4 Hop Kettle beers said they were brewed on site, also had St Austels beers on tap. Large beer garden with plenty of seating. Wifi, and dog friendly. No parking but easy to find somewhere on a side street.“

“Nice traditional pub in a very picturesque street. 11 taps and 10 casks here. Three casks from Hop Kettle and rest were from other local counties.“

“We visited here on Saturday 5th July 2014, we were camping nearby at the small campsite behind the Bell Inn, Purton Stoke 2 miles away. The Red Lion sits at the far end of the High Street and is close to the River Thames which at this point in its journey is tiny and looks more like a small stream than a mighty river. The pub/hotel is a large white building with a big frontage inside it has seating off to the right and sort of off to the left beyond the bar which is on the left hand side as you enter, there are one or two tables here but a small note on one of them read ’Reserved for regulars, you know who you are’ Loz didn’t like that. On cask saw one from Brighton two from Liverpool Organic, four from the pubs own brewery and a few otherd, I settled for their own ’Pale by Comparison’ Loz wanted Tricerahops but it ran out as they started pouring, so she had Liverpool Organic Shipyard? which was ok but served a little warm. The bottle choice was pretty impressive with the likes of Weird Beard, Redchurch, Partizan, Kernel, Orval and many others available. It was very busy with people eating when we arrived so we sat out in the very nice garden, in fact if you head out the back to the garden you can see the brewery in one of the various outbuildings on the right hand side. There is a nice shaded area covered over by Wisteria out the back but sadly and maybe because space is at a premium this is rather let down by being bordered all around by empty casks. There is also a large pizza oven and what appears to be a well out here and the garden is bordered on all sides by a nice stone wall. We had 3 beers sat out here and then walked around the town which took less than ten minutes as there is precious little here to see, its pretty enough but ain’t got much to offer. So we returned here for one more beer by which time the pub had now emptied out all the lunchtime eaters had gone, so we sat near the front of the pub, and with two other chaps we tried to identify the three rather sad looking stuffed birds on the wall I went for a Hen Harrier, Ring Ouzel and a Merlin, but was only super confident about the Ouzel. Overall I liked this place, however it didn’t quite meet my expectations. Once or twice I thought the staff were a little bit short with folk, I know they were busy with food orders but Loz noticed this as well, and the general ambience didn’t quite do it for me. However I am glad we came, Its a decent pub in a nice small town.“

“Red Lion in Cricklade is really what all country pubs should to strive to somehow better. It combines local country pub, great beer selection, onsite-brewery, large beer garden, accommodation and restaurant all under one roof! They offer a large selection of beer on cask, keg and in bottle. I visited during the Siren tap takeover so I was obviously more than pleased. Beer is available in 1/3, 1/2, 2/3 & 1 pint measures which is always great to see. They still had one of their beers on cask and allow you to take away there other beers in bottle or mini-cask. Guest bottles include plenty of london’s finest (Kernel, Partizan etc) as well as regional and foreign craft. The inside pub space is traditional and low-ceiling action with contemporary touches. Staff were enthusiastic and friendly. A great country brewpub which is obviously passionate about beer. Well worth a visit.“

“Historic, market town pub just down the road from the River Thames. Unusually for a country pub, it offers a wide range of cask, bottled and keg beers, plus locally produced ciders. The brewery is in an outhouse and typically 4 of the house beers are on offer along with a few cask guests (Arbor, Bristol Beer Factory and Moor when I visited) and high quality kegs (including Wild Beer and one import). Bottles include Moor and Kernel. Food is available in both the bar and a more formal restaurant, and is high quality. Bed and Breakfast is available and there is a pleasant patio and garden at the back. Excellent.“
