70 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 Visited in June '23. Sat outside at the back of the brewery in their garden. The Keller was closed due to 'bad weather', it had indeed rained for 5 minutes in the morning. A shame though, the Keller looked lovely, very picturesque and nicely located between the trees. Anyway, the brewery garden wasn't too bad either. Had their very good Kellerbier and a nice pizza. No table service, order at the door. Had a nice chat with some locals and an expat couple, who we later met again at Sauer. Nice stop. |
78 /100 Griess Keller (Bar) KELLERWEG 9 It took some time to get in because of the obscure covid prevention guidelines. Its quite a huge beergarden but seperated into multiple smaller terraces that are very cozy and chill. Beer is good. Nice one. |
74 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 Small Gaststube, seven tables in all, with a bright wooden décor, some beer memorabilia on the walls and an elderly matron making sure nobody runs dry. Only a couple of locals and German metalhead tourists drinking here on a Saturday noon before a busload of denizens of Geisfeld, Landkreis Trier descended on the place and turned it into a madhouse (not really ...). The beer is beautifully hoppy and moreish - some of the best stuff you can get around these parts, so a visit here to try the stuff from the Holzfass is highly recommended! |
78 /100 Griess Keller (Bar) KELLERWEG 9 So, this is a schizophrenic place. On the one hand, it's an absolutely beautiful hidden Keller gem just a short walk outside of Geisfeld. On the other hand, who the hell thought it is a good idea to have a cellar located below the sea level of the Dorf? That is ridiculous. Nonetheless, the excellent Griess Kellerbier will make you forget the upcoming way uphill. Just like it should be. An instant classic. |
72 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 Small and local little place, that really doesn't care if you want to buy their beer. However, it's a fantastic beer. |
76 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 In one sentence: A killer Kellerbier served in a typical old school Franconian brewpub. But I don't think I've ever seen a person who is so unwilling to sell beer like Mr. Griess. It seems like it's completely random whether he allows you to buy bottles or not, and whether he even tells you that he has a seasonal beer right now, even if you ask for it. Of course, that just adds to the funky-and-rural experience that this place is. And let's be honest, only their Kellerbier alone can make you happy. |
66 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 7-8 locals enjoying afternoon beer seemed a bit annoyed by my presence. A bit dull, and only one beer, but it’s a damn good one. |
60 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 Just 1 draft, but very good. |
70 /100 Griess Keller (Bar) KELLERWEG 9 How fun to park in Geisfeld and stroll down the short gravel road through corn fields to find the cozy Griess Keller in the woods. Yes, there is only one beer, but it is a fantastic beer. The Griess Kellerbier is sulfuric and minerally and lemon-forward, and even though it’s served from a bladder within the barrel, the experience remains one of the better ones in Franconia. If only we could talk them into a true gravity pour sans bag, oh what this beer may be... Comfortable for families and boozers alike. |
70 /100 Griess Keller (Bar) KELLERWEG 9 A good lagerbier served from the barrel. Small rural keller, it is worth a stop considering it is close to many other cool keller spots. The scenery is weird. |
76 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 Visited upon our arrival in Franconia. Chill place on the side of a main road, nice small garden out back to enjoy some beers. Quite a few locals were here enjoying the early evening sun. The beer was delicious, perhaps the best that day. Will return. |
46 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 Fairly decent beer. Well visited kleinen Stuben. Poor pizza and average service. |
74 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 Small with only one other local drinking while we were there. Great fresh kellerbier served from the wood. Krug is almost next door. Geisfeld is a great village with 2 superb breweries! |
72 /100 Griess Keller (Bar) KELLERWEG 9 Visited on 19/7/2012. A short walk out of the village on the path to Rossdorf Am Forst. Great rural location, an excellent Kellerbier and efficient service makes for a top quality venue. |
66 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 Visited on 19/7/2012, shortly after it opened for the afternoon, although there were already 6 or 7 locals sat around the bar. The Kellerbier served here is one of the best and was on top form. The owner displayed a rather dry sense of humour. Overall, well worth a visit on its own for the quality of the beer, and with the other beer attractions in Geisfeld and Rossdorf am Forst makes for one of the best day trips I have been on. |
76 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 This is far from being one of the most charming brewery decors in Franconia. Quite drab, modern, soulless. Their Keller is supposed to be much nicer, but it was drizzling the day we came and so the Keller was not an option. The house Kellerbier is one of my favorite Franconian lagers, so I will come back to Geisfeld anyway. With Krug next door practically, it makes for a very rich village. |
82 /100 Griess Keller (Bar) KELLERWEG 9 Only 1 beer is served - kellerbier. Very fresh and quite hoppy for Franconian standards. Served from the wood. 1 local drinking while I was there. The beer was great and Krug Brau (Geisfeld) is located 50 meters around the corner. 10 Km from Bamberg!
Update : Lovely keller. Adventure like surroundings. Griess Kellerbier in great condition og good spirit and atmosphere. 68-82 |
80 /100 Griess Keller (Bar) KELLERWEG 9 Technically open at 1630 but in beautiful weather they had already started serving at 1615 when we arrived and by 1700 there were basically no seats or car parks left. Impressive given how small Geisfeld is. One beer via gravity - the very impressive Griess Kellerbier - plus Reh Weizen in bottles. Excellent village atmosphere with different huts around the side of the hill for drinks, food and toilets. Beer serving guy was a bit grumpy, in a good way. They must have done food but we only ate icy poles. Highly recommended, hire a pushie and ride from Bamberg. |
62 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 Didn’t see the inside part but the keller is nice enough, shielded from the road by tall wooden fence. All self-serve, and slightly surly. The gravity barrel yields an incredibly delicious beer. They either ran out of their Aug rauchbier or never brewed it...but the kellerbeer is killer. |
70 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 The small biergarten behind this place is a nice, shaded, cozy place to relax and enjoy some fine kellerbier vom fass or weissbier from the bottle, both of which are really excellent examples. The bartender is typically curt and quiet, the locals are pleasant, and the whole mood of the place is very tranquil. |
70 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 Great little pub we rode to in pouring rain, very friendly local crowd who were very interested I’m why an Australian and a Swede had entered their pub. The beers and ’cold’ food were incredible and so cheap. Staff were prompt for Franconian standards. A must visit, we had an awesome night here. |
58 /100 MAGDALENENSTRASSE 6 Quite modern pub and brewery on the edge of the village of Geisfeld with a nice little beer-garden in the backyard. The quality of the beer here is absolutely worth a visit............! |
56 /100 Griess Keller (Bar) KELLERWEG 9 A newly opened summer beer-garden ("Keller"), but in the traditional franconian style. Located only a few steps from the brewery on the edge of "town", this idyllic garden is a fine place to enjoy the really excellent Griess Kellerbier in the warm (?) middle-european summer..... |
