Sulzberger Bierhaus (Beer Store)
HOHENWARTER STR. 95
“I visited here Saturday 6th August 2022 and what can I say other than WOW! So first things first, it is located a little way out of the centre, 1.5 - 2km to the northwest to be exact (thanks Google maps), you could get a bus but I am not sure how often this would run, but its a line 4 and takes maybe 5-6 mins from Hauptplatz. I think that a car would be best once you come here and there is plenty of parking out the front and side of the store. However, the beers can be purchased individually so if you wanted to shop for a few bottles or cans and had a rucksack then this would be fine. It is a mid-sized Getrankemarkt but a big Craft Beer store, I mention both as rather cleverly caters to both audiences, which is a shrewd move. You enter from the corner, the cashpoint is immediately ahead of you and then there is beer along the right-hand side, and actually throughout the store with soft drinks to the rear and more craft beer-type offerings in a room off to the left. It is nicely laid out with styles rather than breweries along rows and shelving apart from the occasional brewery like Stortebeker who have most of their beers together in a dedicated shelving section on the right. Of course, there is a great choice of local beers and it is refreshing to see that this is mostly smaller regional breweries from this area of Bayern but also Franconian breweries are very well represented for anyone wishing to get their fix of great smoked beers or the abundance of particularly excellent lagers from that region, so the likes of Mahrs, Schlenkerla, Rittmayer to name but a few can be found. It was nice to see a reasonable selection of beers from the UK, Netherlands, and Belgium with Belhaven, Brewdog (Overworks), Sam Smiths, De Molen, Jopen, Rochefort and Chouffe to name but a few, and a healthy selection of reasonably priced cans from Frau Gruber. I was super impressed with this place and cannot believe that living relatively locally in Attenkirchen I never knew this existed. I suspect that I may not spend quite so much now on my regular financial outlays to BeyondBeer Webshop, Hamburg, and numerous other online shops in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Belgium now that I know that this place exists. Other than it would be nice to see some UK craft breweries like Deya, Pentrich, Thornbridge, Cloudwater etc or some of the excellent smaller Belgian breweries like De Dolle, and Brussels Beer Project to name but two I cannot see what it can do to improve. It's a fantastic store that caters to all beer lovers. See you again soon Sulzberger Bierhaus. Prices are very reasonable,“

“Only used them once, but I am very impressed. Ordered 24 beers on Sunday afternoon, delivered to Shropshire by UPS on Wednesday morning. That's in the virus Lock In period (17th May-20th May 2020). Well packed and safe. Transportation costs a bit high, but it is UPS and it still worked out at under £2:00 a bottle, even with the delivery charge. Choice of breweries a bit limited at the moment, but I put that down to the virus.“

“I visited here Thursday 18th April 2019. This is a short drive from the centre , it is to the North East, it is located within a large trading estate area with REWE, Kaufland, garden centres, and car dealerships. As it's an out of town Getränkemarkt I am guessing most people would drive here to stock up. I have checked Google Maps but it seems you cannot get a bus here, though it does show the walk as 21 minutes and 1.7km from the centre of town so perhaps not as far out as I expected. There is a small car park outside and inside it is a reasonable sized place. As you enter to the left hand side behind the till there is a section with spirits, just beyond the till heading further into the Getränkemarkt there is a table like area with a selection of craft beer, I stopped here and picked up the Mullerbräu Red Nix Imperial/DIPA along with 5 Hoppebräu beers. I never ventured further so cannot comment on the wider more traditional selection. The prices were good though, the six beers I got were just €10.44. It has to be said that the chap who served me, wasn't exactly a charmer in fact let's not beat about the bush, he was simply quite miserable. However overall a good little find.“

“I visited here Thursday 18th April 2019. Gasthaus Pfaffelbräu is a building that is painted a light pastel green colour, it's located in the centre of town, on a corner at the far end of the main town square (look for the large church spire, though this was sadly completely obscured by scaffolding today). I cannot comment on the beer today as I was driving though I do intend picking one up from here or elsewhere in town before I leave, so my rating is purely for the place and I do intend to have a gander inside before I leave. I sat outside at one of the tables here, there were about 12-15 tables most of these were set up for those wishing to eat, but they were happy with me having a coffee, it was quiet save for the older couple sat to my right who were eating and had managed to nab the only table that was in the sun. The lady one of the older couple also had a jolly nice looking weiße beer. My limited German had served me well (or at least I'd thought it had) I'd asked for a coffee, the bill and the toilet and it was upon returning from the toilet (obviously inside) that I went to pay the bill only to find the waitress pouring me another coffee, so at some point there had been mixed messages, I suspect that when I asked for the bill she queried if I wanted another coffee which I misinterpreted as did I have just the coffee, anyway all sorted. Inside it was a little old fashioned looking and a possibly a little tired but nonetheless it was homely and welcoming. I did get one of their beers, in fact it was the one that Wingman Willis mentions below, however after the coffee confusion incident I decided not to get it here and instead got it from Schindlbeck Getränke a short drive from here.“

“Visited in May. Sat outside on a fairly warm day and watched the world go by with a selection of Mullerbrau beers. Typical German braustuberl inside with wood panels the feature. Decent service. Bottle of the Red Nax IPA available too. Nice to sample some German craft beer from a trad brewery. 10 min walk from station in main town square“

“Drinks Hall with a large portfolio of regional and local beers. Low prices. Dont expect much service, but a good place on a short distance from the Autobahn Nürnberg- München, so very well suited for a quick stop to stock.“
