86 /100 SCHUTTERBACHSTRASSE 15 Quiet, almost dead place on a Saturday morning. Classic interieur, great Landbier, a surprising fridge of specialty beers including sours, super friendly people. A charming place! |
70 /100 SCHUTTERBACHSTRASSE 15 Very interesting one. Apart from 2 variations of lager (decent) they make beer & wine hybrid called Vinator (2 versions - on red & white wine), plus !sauer! Doppelbock aged in portwine casks. Not great, but very interesting to try. |
96 /100 SCHUTTERBACHSTRASSE 15 All special beers were available. Food well above the Franconian average. Theinheim is in the middle of nowhere, but worth a detour |
82 /100 SCHUTTERBACHSTRASSE 15 This is it. Very friendly people working here and the locals greeting you. 10km from Zehendner and reachable from Bamberg. 2 beers - 1 forgettable and The U which is one of the best kellerbiers ive had. Worth travelling for! Will be back! Boom! |
80 /100 SCHUTTERBACHSTRASSE 15 Your typical Franconian bräu gastette adorned in hop vines and ruminant skulls. We arrived in the early afternoon and could hear the kitchen hammering away at the pork cutlets being readied for schnitzel. The kitchen frau matriarch, the newspaper-reading local and the brewer himself in full gum boot kit were at once all present in the room with us, very friendly in manner and with no hesitation to answer brewing questions (I get the feeling sometimes that Franconian brewers rarely get to talk shop in their day-to-day, some of them visibly perk up when asked a technical question). The Ungespundetes Landbier is pale, oily, hoppy, juicy and clean, stunning enough to make us extend the visit to include an afternoon meal. The Knörzla, new in 2014, uses cara red and melanoidin malt well with apricot-orange noble hops, and though in good shape, it did not hold a flame to the brilliance of the Landbier, which alone is worth returning for next time in Franconia. |
