“Visited May 2024. It‘s a simple bar with some food where solely Landwehrbräu is served on tap and bottled. Not a remarkable place, but good enough to have some beers.“

“We visited here Wednesday 20th October 2021. The selection was a little disappointing, I was hoping to see more local beers from this area but other than Landwehr-Brau from just up the road there really was nothing else *that I could see. It follows the usual Kaufland layout, so beers are on the left as you are walking towards the tills. Not sure that I would recommend coming here, the Rewe in Rothenburg is better but even that wasn't that great.“

“We visited here Tuesday 19th October 2021, after a long drive from Utrecht. We decided to have a meal here as I was unsure whether you could here just for a beer, I suspect not as it is more of a hotel and restaurant. It is centrally located, i.e. well within the city walls and this town is so deserving of all of the plaudits, this town is like a living museum of buildings, an amazing place. The beers brewed here are on the menu, they had two available, btw despite being quite an old and rather plush looking place, the food wasn't so expensive, in fact, it was very reasonable and whilst traditional there was a good choice, I forget exactly what I had or what it was called but it was a pork roast of some description with seasonal vegetables, Loz as ever went for the Schnitzel, both were very good, admittedly there was a little bit of waiting for mine, but it was worth it. The staff were great, they were all dressed in traditional attire, they very attentive. It was nice to see the place pretty much full in mid/late October. The beers were fine but nothing too exciting, still it was good to try a beer from a very small local brewery. I would certainly recommend this place, the atmosphere was very old skool and traditional and food very good.“

“Spent the night at the hotel and had the best schnitzel ever and awesome butter braised potatoes. Weather was fine and I ate in their Biergarten. Staff was dressed in traditional clothing and their two beers were good. Awesome experience, I couldn’t ask for more.“

“I had a beer on their terrace. It was a warm and sunny day so I didn't have any need to go inside. I was the only customer. Although the brewpub is in a beautiful old building with a really idyllic surrounding the terrace itself wasn't that uplifting. I didn't eat. The service was friendly yet slightly slow. They had 4-5 of Landwehr-Bräu beers on tap.“

“21st August 2018. Popped into the beer garden when passing by on our way home, after a quick search that this was a pub selling the Landwehr beer. I believe they had about 4 or 5, we just drank the Hell and Rotfränkisch. Actually not the cosiest of beer gardens, but in a nice location next to the town walls. Service was a bit of a letdown because one waiter had to serve a whole courtyard and it took a while before he could take away the dirty plates still on our table. Beer was cheap, however. We topped off the evening with a quick stroll on the town walls.“

“21st August 2018. Apparently the only beer from Goldochsen we could get at the time was a 'Spezial (Export)', just a regular Lager. Don't know what went wrong... So nothing really special here... Food was terrific, though! Käsespätzle on the one hand, Frikadelle on the other (basically big meat balls). Fair prices.“

“21st August 2018. We had almost exactly the same experience as tderoeck described it. Stopped by in the afternoon, so they were practically closed. Immediately asked for the house beers and were seated (with extra cushions!) in a small courtyard. They didn't mind us staying for a long or short time, I think they already appreciated our interest. Funny thing: before we left, the landlady gave us the key to a room on the first floor so we could check it out, as a kind of publicity stunt I guess? Although I keep thinking whether she meant anything other by it...“

“I went to Trumbrau trying to get food and drink, but the kitchen didn't open until 6pm, so the nice lady recommended me to this place, which was not on RB. What a find and IMO, this is the best place in Rothenburg. Open all-day, the food was fantastic and reasonable. They had three Distelhäuser beers on tap and four in the bottle. We sat outside on a nice July day and they had an awesome rose garden that impressed my wife. Great service to boot. If you are traveling with your spouse/girlfriend, this is definitely the place to take them. I also thought the Hefewiezen was outstanding.“

“Atmosphere in summer is cool as shit. Beirgarten is near the wall and they had a home BBQ going cooking up a variety of meat. Very local feel in the middle of tourist land. Also didn’t hear much English. That being said, service was worst I got in Germany. Fair enough I was there by myself so easy to overlook but still I don’t want to wait 30 min to order and I just ordered four beers as once as I was afraid I wouldn’t get served again. The beers were all ok and the place is a good atmosphere. I wouldn’t say must visit but decent enough“

“Rushed in just before closing but got a small Hellas and a bottle of Hefeweizen in bottle. Sat at the beirgarten at the back. I was surprised the Hellas was small. Like the smallest in Bavaria at 200ml, while it was a 500ml weizen. Not a must but perfectly good to snatch a couple good beers I reviewed before the beers arrived. The Hefe, which is not on RB by goldochesen was PAtrizier, though I was initially made to believe both came from Goldochensen. This place is now meh“

“Super friendly place that makes the beer in the kitchen. You can’t drink the beer in the restaurant until 6pm but the lady was kind enough to serve me in the lobby of the old hotel. Three beers on tap. All competent. Nice atmosphere to sit in the old hotel lobby and enjoy the beers. Nothing mind blowing but you should hit this place if you are in town. That being said we came in too early and couldn’t eat. The friendly lady at the lobby recommend Hotel BurgGarten Palais, which was amazing for food, beer and atmosphere and is the best place in Rothenburg.“

“Old fashioned restaurant in the the picturesque center of Rothenburg with a smaller " beer-garden" in the backyard. But the main attraction is already announced above the main door: " Goldochsenbrauerei Krauß-Unbehauen Spielbach"! If You can’t make it to Spielbach, here is the unique opportunity to sample the rare and great Spielbach Bier right from the tap! The beer is very well tapped and moreish here... Prices are a bit higher, but still moderate by Rothenburg standards. Very friendly service! Not a must, but worth a visit when You are in the area.“

“Brewpub right in the centre of town housed in a hotel which is part of one of the towers in the original (now inner) town walls. We were the only people in there at about 9pm on Friday night. Just three beers to choose from. Service was friendly & effiicient.“

“First of all: if you look for this place, it’s a hotel! Not called Turmbräu, but Hotel Markusturm. Knowing this will save you some time running around the place, searching in vain. We just walked in, no one at the reception, so we asked the kitchen girl if we could have a drink inside. She explained that they were not a bar, we could go to the main square, they had some terraces there where we could have a drink. We in turn explained to her that we specifically wanted to try their house beers. From that moment on they went out of their way to please us. We were seated on a small terrace, normally only for hotel guests, on the first floor and halfway through this magnificent ancient building. Because, they said, in the afternoon there will be a lot of deliveries and people going to the kitchen, so it would be a bit noisy. Really nice people. They served our drinks and explained us that the beer was brewed in soup kettles in the kitchen. I feel bad that they only had 3 beers, wouldn’t have minded staying a bit longer. If you ever plan on going to Rothenburg, you better be staying in this hotel. It’s the most beautiful one I have ever seen. (Just make sure you can handle stairs, there’s no elevator)“
