“A great little brewery in the heart of the Mornington Peninsular wine country. They have four taps and one cask beer plus a small selection of bottles and a selection of specials to take away. Quiet and picturesque. A great place to sink a quality beer or two on the terrace. Paddles of four beers are available. Friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of parking. Worth stopping by.“

“There’s no doubt abuot the quality of the beer (state’s best brewer?) but this place should be viewed as more of a nice cafe, in a very nice part of the world, that just happens to serve its own beer. Kinda like Brew Moon in NZ in this respect. Apparently now very busy with the wine tourists. Service from bar dude was very good but food wait staff was appalling (made it very clear that they weren’t paid to serve desserts after 4.30pm despite closing at least after 5.00pm). I sell these beers in Melbourne and will take up the service (or lack of) with the owner.

Update September 2018: Hard to believe that you'd place Red Hill in the 'old brigade' of Vic craft brewers (such is the explosion of the scene in recent years). Nice setting, very rural, quiet, casual. Didn't eat. Beers well priced and a few seasonals on. Service good this time around (a bit average about 5yrs ago). The beers presented very well and the Truffle Scotch Ale on pump was excellent.“

“Winery that also brew beer, situated on the Nepean Highway. Around 6 or 7 beers on tap with more available in bottles. The beers were pretty average but it’s a lovely spot to spend a hour or so on a sunny afternoon overlooking the vines“

“Stopped in for a few tasting racks. Very much a bar in the brewery, with all the kit on full display. Service was very friendly, including the owner who was walking around chatting to people about the beers. Beers were very good, with the core range and four specials at any one time. Few bottles of stuff not available on tap. Big wood oven looked like it was turning out good pizza but didn't try. Very much enjoyed the place.“

“A place with a busy vibe to it when I visited on Saturday (6/8/2016). Lots of outdoor seating and enough indoor to serve well on the colder days. Even though it was popular there was adequate room to sit and move. They may have a long list of beers on Ratebeer but there were only four of their beers and their one cider on tap while other were available in bottles.“

“We visited this brewery on 20.2.2015. This brewery is located in a terrific region on our planet, you can find breweries, wineries, great Golf courses and fantastic beaches, feels like paradise, have not been to much better places so far. Before you enter the brewery you can see their own hop garden, which is quite unique. The beers are ok. They had one hand pump beer: Scottish ale and some light beers on tap. Seems they just celebrated their 10 years anniversary. Beers not outstanding, but if you are here you should definitely come.“

“We came here the first time on 19.02.2015. Located in a beautiful area close to Melbourne, many wineries, the best Golf courses in Australia and not far from the sea (paradise!!!!). I love the alignment of the brewery, a gallery on top with tables and even leather sofas. You can drink and at at the same time have a view over the whole brewhouse including all tanks, this is the best I have seen so far!! The beers are quite good, liked the Sarachi - a Kölsch with hops from Japan most, also the Pale ale is ok. Really like they have a motive/image for all of their beers. They have framed pictures showing the images + a story for all beers they have ever brewed hanging around the brewery, great idea! The Pizzas made in a stone oven are very good too. We come back soon!!!“

“Mainly easy-drinking beers here, but fastidiously brewed and kept. The Mornington Peninsula is now pretty much full of schmicko wineries with lots of rammed earth + concrete façade grazing spaces where one can pick up an artisanal relish or lama wool throw after a tasting. This place is a bit of a throwback to when people discovered wine that was not a tax dodge could be made here. It’s a very nice place to spend an afternoon. Food is pretty good. Wine is the main game, but beer is more of a feature than just a sideline. The beer is nothing new or challenging, but is very well made indeed.“

“The brewery is located in an industrial area and is not much to look at fron the outside. The brewery is not fancy but seems quite comfortable. Maybe it’s the wood-fired Pizza oven that offsets the starkness. Outside there is a patio area to enjoy on a nice day or relax in the mezzinine area that overlooks the brewing operation. The Bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beers they serve. They have a very solid selection of beers to choose from. They do offer a sampler padldle if undecided and you can purchase bottles to take away. Well worth checking out.“

“[4/11] A tilt-up slab brewery with a bar in the semi-industrial part of Mornington - a town that is now almost a Melbourne suburb. Maybe it would be a bit grim in winter, but on a sunny Autumn afternoon this was a very hospitable place. It was pretty much full with a sprinkling of locals and bikies and _lots_ of families with young children. Live music very decent. Wood-fired pizza was pretty good and pretty cheap - an espresso machine and some antipasti would have been welcome too. The beer was more than OK for a place that’s only recently opened, although I was sorry to miss out on the saison. I didn’t go for the IPA through the Tardis (Randall), but if you like that sort of thing they’ve got one. A sub-set of beers was available in bottles. I liked this place as it is a lot, but guess it’s going to be more. [3.3]

[4/22] Now styles itself as Tar Barrel Brewery & Distillery, doing gin and whisky as well as a few brewpub release Mornington Peninsula beers (which can also find in some local shops) on top of the regular MPBrew stuff. The brand is part of Tribe but this venue is still much the same. Best chips outside the low countries? Good pizza. Very cheap Wed-Thurs.“

“The selection was short when we visited (only 4 beers), but the food and the service were excellent. The atmosphere was great too, it was full, but we still had plenty of space. “

“Formerly Red Hill Cellars, now renamed. If you are down the Mornington Peninsula for beer, you’re down for the Red Hill Brewery along the road about a k. But if you’re staying around here (perhaps visiting there later) and wondering whether you can pick up a decent bottle or two for variety or comparison, this place is about it. There is a small selection of good bottles here and the emphasis is Belgian (and Red Hill). There is good (and pricey) charcuterie and cheese too.“

“[1/10] All of the beer is good and some is excellent. The Wheat was outstanding this time. Previously, I’ve liked the Temptation and the Christmas Ale here. I was looking forward to trying their Bohemian Pilsener on tap, but it was all gone except in mixed 6 packs. Some other things (like the Imperial Stout) are available in bottles to take away. The beer is well-presented in good glasses at appropriate temperatures (not always easy - I’ve been here when it was 40C). It’s interesting to note that this is a place that makes a thing of growing its own hops but I haven’t had a beer where bitterness per se is a feature of a beer. Food is good and in generous proportion. It’s around $A25 for a main. There’s local things - soft cheeses and very good housemade pickles, including of cherries picked within a pit’s throw. Mixed in are fine things from a lot further away - I’ve eaten Comté here. Once you get in, it’s a friendly place, but things can be a little frenetic at lunchtime in the Peninsula summer holiday rush and the staff can start off a bit tetchy - we’ve come in at 3pm with toddlers before and been made welcome, but at 1 for lunch things were at bit frosty at first before settling down nicely. I’d like to see this place expand and be able to buy its beers in more places, but according to a bloke at the bottleshop up the road, there’s a cap on water use. [Update 1/ 2013] Now open irregular hours - mainly holiday weekends. Focusing on making more beer apparently. No longer doing its own food: getting food vans in when they’re open. That was a truck serving gumbo and po’ boys when I was last there - good stuff and the food was on all day. Very fond of this place. [Update 1/21] A slight reno and the food is back in house. On premises, still some of the best beer in Australia IMHO. Not many have followed this business model but it seems wise: stay small; sell a lot of your beer at the brewery; mostly make the same beers but get better at them.“

“Lovely little brewpub in a beautiful spot. The beers arer fantastic, didn’t eat the food but it looked great. Loved the hop bines which wind their way around the beer garden. It’s remote location is both a good point and a bad point I guess. One of the best beer venues in Victoria.“

“...well, I thought this was a pretty nice place, in an even better location. THe blonde who served me was pretty hot too, which is always a plus, ha. The only beer that I sampled there that I thought was exceptional was the wheat. I woulud have that it was brewed in Germany. The other three(scotch ale, golden ale, and belgian blonde) were less than empressive. But this is about the place. THe tomato soup was pretty damn good, and the roast duck with caramelized figs was spectacular. It was cool to see the hop vines growing there too. It is far from here, that’s for sure, but a good place to stop by if you are in the area. And the bar guy definitely knew his beers. Overall, a pretty sweet place.“

“I love this place. The beers are great (see my ratings,) the hops are all grown on the premises, food is excellent with a focus on local produce and it’s a great place to have a beer. The only problem is that it’s so freaking far from anything - designated driver required. Update: As the business has grown this place has started to get really packed in summer. It’s best to visit on a weekday outside of the summer holidays, if at all possible. Food becomes a set menu over summer and you’ll struggle to get a table if you just want a beer. But it’s busy because, you know, it’s good.“
