64 /100 5 MCMURTRIE ROAD Nice alternative to what is available in McLaren Vale. Looks like a renovated tasting room from a winery. Only negative was the lack of air conditioning as it was 101 the day I was there. Nice bright feel and more like a winery than a beer tasting room.
Did not get much out of the the service. Not nearly as friendly as the wineries are.
Strong selection of beers. Sierra Nevada, Green Flash, Moo Brew, Rogue, Lindemans, and some other local beers. Obviously their own beers were on tap but a very small range and almost disappointing as compared to the bottle list. Vale dark, vale ale, vale lager and vale IPA on tap. No unusual beers. Price is standard for Australia so that is OK. Worth the trip but the wineries are far more interesting |
52 /100 40 SAND ROAD A brewery in a tin-shed, on the side of a road, amongst the grapevines of McLaren Vale. Run from their home by Jeff and Mary Goodieson, the Goodieson Brewery has a certain charm about it. Bottles of beer are $5 each and you can drink them overlooking the grapevines of the neighbouring vineyard, tastings are free. Mary was friendly and happy to talk about brewing and the future product lines. Apparently they are going to do a dunkelweizen, I have never had an Austrlian dunkelweizen before, looking forward to it. A nicer place for a beer than the trendy taphouse near by. |
