Grappa Growlers (Beer Store)

“This place won't overwhelm you with number of taps or bottles but what they do have is interesting and varied. Food on Fridays, it is very busy on that day, all other times they are dead. You can get a draft beer and walk around with it while you shop; that's always a plus with me. I'm not aware of many beer stores in Belleville so if you're there anyway it's worth a stop.“

“Stopped in on a Tuesday early aftrnoon to find a much bigger crowd than expected. Most of themm to be old ladies. Parking is plentiful. The space is big and open with German seating style benches plus a few 4 top tables and a full bar. 5 beers on the menu but they were out of the Hefe. No flights available yet but will be soon. The beers are German style and are kind of ok. The food is also German and is pretty tasty. I had the fish that came with German potatoes. Good! This place is noisy even if on an early Tuesday afternoon. Sometimes they have a German band playing and then it must be diffiuclt to carry a conversation. I do like the place and it is the 3rd one I have been to and they are all different spaces but seem to have the same menu and beers.“

“Beautiful big new building out in the middle of nowhere. They spared no expense. The service is friendly and attentive - there must have been 40 employees walking around. Selection is 5 or so beers, all German styles. If you've been to a Hofbrau they're all the same beer wise. Food wasn't very good, the place was kinda pricey. Worth a stop, more for a good time than for good beer.“

“Expansive place in a strip mall with plenty of seating. A dozen or beers on tap, available in custom flights for $7-something. Beers were all decent, nothing standing out. Friendly service. Pretty ordinary stop.“

“I have never rated this?! I’ve been here about at least a dozen times so its overdue. I really like 4204 for at least a few reasons. The place, the beer, and the fact that they rotate beers so often. The place is very nice. As a brewpub it rates within the top 1/3 in the StL area, easily. Beers are typically quite good and all have their unique personality. Every time I am here I get a new flight of 4 or so. As a ticker I like that very much. As a beer drinker I like the beers that i have, as an eater of food I always like that here. Never had a bad visit.“

“Nice looking place, service was friendly, all their own beers with no guest taps but they had a lot of them. Not a lot of high ABV offerings, I guess that would be bad for business. I had the DIPA, it was pretty good. Not a lot in Belleville in terms of craft beer; this would be your best bet if you visit the area.“

“Stopped in here with my dad on a Sunday as it opened, while I was on my way back to Cincy from St. Louis. It’s off the beaten path, a solid 30 minutes from downtown STL and farther from I-64 than I anticipated. But it’s worth the trek. The barbecue is amazing. Try the pork steak. The sides are no joke, either. The beer selection is primarily bottles and they have a wide range of local selections. The soda machine is even all Excel products, which is fun. The staff was attentive and friendly. There’s nothing beer-wise that’s going to blow you away but plenty of good regional stuff. Be sure and pay this place a visit. You won’t be sorry.“

“Popped in here on a Sunday around noontime and the inside was nearly empty. The patio was hopping, though; that’s where regulars seem to hang out. The place looks huge from the road, but inside the rooms are more divided up and smaller than you’d expect. The bar is just past the entrance and feels very separated from everything else. I got a flight and the beers were okay. The bartender was nice enough. I didn’t try any food. I think it was $8 or so for a flight of four. There’s a separate canning building next door, and it’s closer to the road from the direction I was coming, so I accidentally tried to go there before noticing this huge building next door. I guess if it was a former chain steakhouse, that makes perfect sense. I thought it had a chain feel to it. It’s still worth a visit if you’re in Belleville, though.“

“Located in former chain steakhouse building.....nice, if predictable décor.....fire places, open beams, brewery piping and apparatus....nice and open, huge outdoor covered patio, full bar.... Beers were above average with a very nice selection of styles.... The Brewer (Tony) ,came over, sat and chatted us up a bit and was really interested about my rating.....had a great time talking about his history and love of brewing...Our waitress, Cher, was very helpful and a great server...... Really enjoyed this stop and would absolutely make a return visit when in the area....easily accessible from I-64 and the St. Louis area.“

“Stopped in for lunch. Has the brewing equipment setting in the front window. Seems to be primarily a restaurant that serves good beer. They have about 14 of their beers on tap with a few seasonal beers included. Service was quite friendly. I had a flight of beers that were nicely crated and enjoyable. There is an extensive menu, not to mention daily specials. Good food, good beer. Worth checking out if you are in the area.“

“Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. We were there at opening time, so not crowded. Good selection of beers, I counted 14 of their own on tap. We tried a flight, they were all decent. Food selection was good as well. The brewing equipment is right in front of the building, with glass walls on the inside, so you can see their entire brewing processing area. The only place in town like it, I hope they make a go of it.“

“I have been here a number of times and am always impressed with how nice and available the staff is. They have probably 25 different extract kits along with supplies for all grain brewing.“

Acropolis (Restaurant)
200 WEST MAIN STREET
“(Visited 12/2009): Acropolis is a Greek place in downtown Belleville on West Main. Street parking (metered and not) is abundant in the surrounding area. The interior is small with booth seating along the left side and a small bar on the right. Being a Greek restaurant primarily, there are a lot of kitschy decorations, pictures etc with a Greek theme. The available beers are all located on a shelf behind the bar. As for the beers, there is a relatively decent selection for such a small town, including a couple I don’t remember seeing elsewhere. There are no taps and around 25 bottles such as Zatek, Schlafly, New Belgium, O’ Fallon, Czechvar, Bavik, Utenos, Burgerbrau, and Kostritzer. Service has always been good on my lunch visits. The staff is very efficient and friendly, but don’t expect too much in the way of beer expertise. Acropolis has great gyros, both as a sandwich or a platter. Overall this spot is not a beer destination but is definitely worth a visit for good food and a fair selection of craft and import brews.“

“Although a wine bar, they have a very good beer selections. I think they have like 8 beers on tap, but they rotate them pretty frequently. Most recently had the Bells Java Stout.“

“Very nice place, I enjoyed a Blue moon on tap while some soft old music played in the Background. There are several beers on tap but the main draw to this place is obviously the wine. Still nice to sit with your lady and have a beer.“

“Great little hole in the wall place to hang out on a Friday night. There was a local band playing that was pretty decent, staff was friendly and beer was cold and delicious.“
