“Visited end of January, 2019. This place is awesome - especially for this area! Having moved to a small town in WI from a small town in GA, I was pleasantly surprised. Main warning would be to check dates, especially hoppy beers and clearance beers. Anyway, this place is HUGE and has a shit ton of craft beer, including some special releases, etc. Well lit place, friendly service. You can take singles of anything!! Ticker’s dream! Don’t get me wrong this isn’t a big Binny’s or Woodman’s, but for a random store in Dubuque (IL side), this place is AWESOME! I will be back!“

“Selection and ambiance was decent to good. Had a tap station/bar with Busch Light. Some stock was old but mostly new. Decent bottle shop.“

“Cool place. Looks like it used to be a grocery store. Large selection of craft and specialty beers. Every bottle is available as a single which is awesome. If you can catch the staff walking around they are more than happy to help. Prices are pretty good. They mark stuff down dirt cheap on a segregated shelf for past seasonals and soon to expire beer. Really cool and worth a trip.“

“Giant store with a huge selection. Lots of stuff not available in my area of northern il. They have a few employees that know beer if youre lucky enough to stop in when they are working. Prices are pretty good and when they put something on clearance they basically give it away. Worth the trip.“

“Good random selection. Although Ive noticed alot of dust collected maybe quite a few aged beers as well. Lots of bombers and stuff sitting room-temp shelf. Its a big place acceptable for expansion. They are leniant with pulling a few bottles from cases as well so as not to buy a whole sixer.Friendly nice workers giving good atmostphere to an otherwise warehouse. I dont get the name but,it is a friendly place with a pretty decetnt selection, I didnt come out with too much(which was a good thing for me at the time) but I see the potential this place has. Only because alot of it Ive had in the vacinity I like although they have about everything here available you can get in a semi-close radious. Good selection. You will find something that interests you that you havent seen around.“

“Right off Highway 20, it is a converted grocery store. Beer aisles are in the middle of the store and in the back coolers. Selection was pretty decent and being able to buy any single bottle is a good selling point. Not an extremely large selection but very good as a whole.“

“Nice little place right along the highway. Good selection, GREAT, considering the location. Sort of fun market-type layout. Easy going arrangement, and staff. I would highly recommend this place to any passerby, especially from out of state.“

“Great selection for the area. Allow mix and match, which is especially nice with the discount. They do a good job of getting highly sought after beers from e.g. Avery, Ballast Point, Port/Lost Abbey, Founders, Hoppin’ Frog etc. Nothing extremely exotic, but a respectable selection. They’re smart enough to segregate and discount the old and off-season brews, which shows they care about their beer-knowledgeable customers.“

“Visited both Van’s and Family Liquor. I wasn’t impressed by the selection here at all. Judging by the other reviews they rotate their beers a lot so maybe I caught them at a low point. Some imports and crafts but nothing I hadn’t seen elsewhere. Prices seemed reasonable. Service limited to checkout and a bit crabby, maybe she was having a bad day.“

“Converted grocery store, quite spacious.Nice selection of craft beer and imports, not outstanding but for the region it’s very good. The big advantage is you can get singles of any craft or import they have in stock and they give you a 5% discount per six bottles. Prices seem very fair. Service mostly limited to checkout but helpful. They do have a "marked down" shelf of expiring beers but this can be a good deal for the right styles.“

“In dubuque there is this little jingle that this store plays on the radio. Perhaps some of you from Northeast Iowa know what I am talking about. Every time I walk in the door the little jingle goes off in my head and I am 21 again. During my stint in Dubuque this is where I bought almost all of my booze, and I love this place. That said it does have some drawbacks The beer selection is fairlly rotating and you get the idea that they are kind of pointing blindfoldedly at a catalouge of beers. This works out quite well sometimes and other times no. I have gotten semi rare dogfish heads, thomas hardy ale, many belgians, and plenty of interesting micros here. The beer section is very cramped and sort of weird to move around in. The staff is always pretty awesome, but they are not really there to help you with beer selection.“

“The name of this place is the stuff of Dubuque area legends. I*ve been going here since before I could buy anything and it was the first serious beer-wine-liquor store I had ever been too, so it holds a place in my heart. Let me lay it on the line though, it*s a freaking warehouse dolled up in minimal fashion and they are very focused on liquor and wine. Beer tends to take a back seat but they do care about what they*re doing in the beer dept. There is a decent import selection, particularly for me when I was just starting out, they*ve got you covered on the basics for sure. Their micro stuff rotates a lot, but it’s a fairly good selection and I like that it rotates. There is always something worth picking up here.“

“I had visitied this place many times in the past because they always had a couple of beers that one could not buy at Family Liquor. However, I visited again recently and they had easily doubled to tripled their already good beer selection. They have gotten more WI micros as well as numerous other US micros. They have a decent singles selection along with lots of beer in coolers. Solid and actually, I would just as soon visit here before Family Liquor now, if I had time to visit only one store. However, they don’t have the singleing of any beer policy, and fewer German and Belgian brews. Stop in next time you drive across the US 20 bridge, you should be pleased.“

“For being in the middle of no where this place is pretty damn good. A good amount of import, (Chimay, Orval, Sam Smith) to mention a very few, along with a good amount of American favorites, (North Coast, Ballast Point, Goose Island BCS and IIPA, Great Divide, Rogue, Avery, I think FFF but the selection was really small and I am guessing that they aren’t going to carry it anymore) Definately a lot more than I was expecting when I heard about it. Also a huge plus is that everything they have you can pick up singles of, they don’t care if you break up a sixer. Five percent discount if you make your own six pack. The biggest draw back is that everything they have is sitting out in the open, unrefrigerated, but the place is honestly probably the best selection for 50 miles in any direction. Service is non existent, the only time you get attention is when you pay, but that is cool with me, I don’t like being bothered anyway. Definately worth a stop if you are in the area.“

“Pours pitch black with a thick...oh wait. Family beer and liquor, gotta love the name. This place is pretty nice. Very big alcohol selection, and beer gets a good chunk of real estate as well. You can mix and match anything they have out, and you get 10% off from anything that is in a six pack. Cool. Selection is pretty good, but newer stuff filters in pretty slow. If you go once and stock up on everything, you pretty much are set for a month or two before you should bother coming back. Staff seems friendly enough, they always offer to carry my stuff out to the car (which i decline at 25) but that might help a few of the older rate beerians out (just kidding).“

“Wow! I felt a little uneasy going into a beer and liquor store with the moniker "Family" prominently displayed across the threshold (but such is the advertising in the Midwest, even alcohol is seen as as a wholesome activity), but it dissipated soon after entering the store. Aisles full of an extremely large selection of beer from all over the world. A side note: Whenever I want to find a beer that no one else has rated on beerpal or any of the other beer websites, I head to the midwest, specifically around eastern Iowa. Anyway, I found many that I had not yet tried, and walked away happy.“

“Been here many time as I grew up across the river in Dubuque. Best beer selection in the area and they allow mixed six packs. They have selections from Avery, Sand Creek, New Holland, Tommyknocker, Grand Teton, Goose Island, and many more. The bad news is that on my most recent visit (Christmas Eve ’06), I noticed an announcement that Bell’s would no longer be distributed in Illinois. Drag.“

“Still a solid beer store. I have been here a few times. Short of going to Chicago or Madison, this is a pretty good beer store. I am able to get a fair number fo new beers with each trip. They allow you to break up any six pack for singles. Just keep your eye on the cases on the floor, they don’t always put everything on the shelf. I go to get Founder’s, special edition Flying Dogs, and Mendocino. All beers that we don’t get in Iowa. Decent selection of oddball German and English beer. Short on Belgians.“
