“Cool old brick building right on the main square in Waterloo. Big bar out front with the brew tanks right there with you in the seating area. For as small as the brew tanks looked I'm surprised they put out so many styles. Mostly German style lagers but they also put out and IPA and stout. There was 16 different beers on tap when I was there with a full bar and lots of whiskey. No food but they let you bring in food from other places in the area. There is a BBQ joint right next door. Some of the beers are decent to above par and some can be forgettable. They do have 16 oz cans for take home as well. Nice place in a nice town. The husband and wife team running the place looks like they are super hard working and take pride in all they have accomplished.“

“Big old refurbished building. Service was exceedingly friendly; he even talked beer with us when he had customers waiting. Selection was good, you can tell they switch things up often as they had many seasonal selections. Values consistent with the area. Give this place a try.“

“I had a great time here. 16 taps, everything from imperial stout to pilsner. I was pleased to see that not every beer style was German. Walking distance from Hopskeller, you could really make a day of it.“

“After a Sunday afternoon visit to Stubborn German my wife and I walked around the corner to Gallagher’s. We are so glad we did! She loves fried chicken and Sunday is family style chicken dinner day (for $12.95) and we walked away delighted and stuffed. The building is and old multi story brick house. We ate on the second floor after taking the elevator. Such a cool and rustic ambiance! I had a Moody Tongue Churro Chocolate Porter to drink and that is a brewery I had never heard of. They have a few macros on tap but an impressive array of crafts, too. Plus a nice bottle selection. I am so glad we stumbled into this gem and will definitely return.“

“Stopped in on Thanksgiving weekend. Very nice space. Hardwood floors and brick walls. Modern meets old. The beers are German themed and those seem to be Americanized somewhat. All are good. They also have more American styles including an IPA and a coffee stout when I was here. The area is like a Gilmore Girls setting. That includes a Christmas celebration that could be straight out of that show. A surrey just went by dressed in Christmas colors. They have about a dozen of their beers on tap. I don’t see any guest taps but they make cocktails and have plenty of whiskey and bourbons. No food is available but it can be brought in. I am here for the beer and am finding everything to be above average, even exceptional. Hopefully my shadow will darken their door often.“
