78 /100 Whole Foods Market - Butterfield Taproom (Grocery Store) 89 DANADA SQUARE EAST A little too well lit and bustling, but what can you expect from a venue open to grocery shopping and a food court? Coffee permeates the air, so aroma notes can be initially masked. Friendly service, especially Joe, clean, well kept-up bar appearance, with proper glassware, smaller servings offered, Friday specials, and a comprehensive list of offerings noted on a menu sheet, and constantly changing chalkboard tiles, according to availability. "Honey,... so that I don't get in your way, why don't you shop while I enjoy a craft brew" vibe. Liked it! |
70 /100 Whole Foods Market - Butterfield Taproom (Grocery Store) 89 DANADA SQUARE EAST Air bar section in the front of the store, next to the coffee service. 24 taps, all craft, and with locals very well represented. Prices are about equal to any other place, ranging from $6 to $10 (for an Imperial Pumpkin seasonal). But Wednesday is $4 Draft day. I hit the place just as they started service at 11 am, so the counterman was busy going over stuff with his supervisor, but he did quickly see what I needed, and poured me a glass right up to the rim, so I was pretty satisfied. |
86 /100 Warren’s Ale House (Restaurant) 51 TOWN SQUARE Big fan of this place. The waiters and bartenders know beer and the selection is always surprising and solid. I just wish they carried more beers. The bias is toward local brewers which is terrific. They have frequent tap takeovers with local breweries. The food is excellent and inventive. |
52 /100 Whole Foods Market - Butterfield Taproom (Grocery Store) 89 DANADA SQUARE EAST The beers they had appeared fresh and there were a few people around asking if I needed any assistance, although none seemed to be acting solely in the capacity of someone who could answer any and all beer questions. The selection was pretty good for the size of the area, with the problem being that the area was quite small.
They had a decent separate area with unrefrigerated Belgian brews (including American makers of Belgian styles). Other than that, there was a refrigerated area that had a good number of breweries, although the number of styles from each brewery was quite small. |
70 /100 Whole Foods Market - Butterfield Taproom (Grocery Store) 89 DANADA SQUARE EAST Like most Whole Foods stores, this place cares about their beer. Pretty wide selection. They have Anchor Bock there, the first time anywhere I have seen it. They also still have some bottles left of the 2003 Whole Foods Silver Jubilee 25th Anniversary Ale, which is pretty good I might add. They also had one of the Lamar St. brews, made especially for Whole Foods by Goose Island. Definitely worth a stop for those of you who live out there and don’t want to make the longer drive to Binny’s in Glen Ellyn or Sam’s in Downer’s Grove. |
