“Wow. Michelin starred restaurant with an absolutely fantastic beer menu. Possibly a better cellar than the Kulminator at least in terms of state and availability. I could spend hours on the beer menu. So many hard to get and slightly aged gems.“

“Bought vouchers to help out during corona...after two years waiting the experience was quite disapointing. Made reservations month before. Guys and girls flying in from Ireland, Holland and Belgium. Not a word of welcome. A wedding was planned after us so we couldnt make different choises in the menu other then two per course (we were with 6) food was good but main course cold. Nope not for us anymore. Antidoot etc. well available“

“Visited during my Belgium tour, strange atmosphere. Some tables were handled differently probably because they were showing off with a range of bottles on the table. It was like there was a major of lambics in the house. Very annoying, because it took away the nice and cosy atmosphere I was expecting while drinking a 45 euro beer. Food was ok. Beerlist is so so, besides some Bokke, Antidoot and Bofkont there not much else. I was looking for more Belgian special beers, but it's mostly sour stuff they have from Belgium (trying to please the FOMO's). The special beers are mostly foreign, you can get that anywhere nowadays. A bit disappointing that a lot of Belgian breweries (not the sour ones) are overlooked in favor of hype-stuff. Expected more from a "beer heaven".“

“Visited this restaurant twice because of the hype that exists about this place. But quite frankly, I do not feel it. Beer selection is very nice, but all the rest is not my cup of tea. First time we visited we had a Dutch waiter which was rather arrogant. He was a bit of a wise ass and his comments and school teacher behavior spoiled the atmosphere of our diner. Second time around we had the menu again (no coupon menu) and we had 2 identical courses than two or three years before (e.g. something with a gun of foie gras). Next to that we were seated next to a group of beer traders/"enthousiasts", probably due to the Bokke and Antidoot bottles that were available. The people serving that night, including the chef, were mainly interested in that company of people and thus yet again not the special feeling/experience we were hoping to get. "Les goûts et les couleurs, ça ne se discute pas"... but I am not feeling the vibe as other people seem to have with this place.“

“I visited the Gebrande Winning 4x. After my first 2x I didn't want to go there again; 3rd time still went because I had a gift certificate, and 4th time was because the group wanted to visit. Terrible service last 2 times. Service knows little about beer. If you ask if they can recommend something with a chosen dish, it remains silent. They have excellent beers, but in my opinion, it's just because they serve Bokke/Antidoot that they get so much attention from "beer geeks". The food is good, delicious. But a menu with adapted beers, starting with Erdinger and then including 2x La Trappe, is unworthy of a top beer restaurant. You can get pairings like this everywhere. A beer menu in which the same starter has been the same for 4 years in a row. Eat 4 times for 4 years, each time with the salmon in gueuze as a starter. Tired to the core. Especially when you see that people who take a social deal menu, get the same dish, for much less money. Because this place is allowed to serve the Bokke beers, the hype started. High on the list with the slimy beer geeks looking for a basement treasure that one only gets when you shower the owner with praise. You are treated differently as soon as you respond normally or don't heap praise on the owner. Overrated place. Especially when they were up by 29 votes!!! Ratebeer's best in the world was awarded. Unbelievable. There are better places in Belgium, but of course, they don't have a Bokke, and slimy beer geeks don't come and post reviews of them at the boss's request, hoping to get into the boss's good graces so they can have another special "tick". “

“Visited with Tin, Hrvoje and Werckmeister. Easily reachable from Bruxelles by train + half an hour walk from the station. Located in the brick house with nice courtyard in the back. We went for lunch so ordered one of the menus. Beer list is extensive especially in the lambic department - from Antidoot, 3F, Bokke, Cantiloon, H.ertie to Bofkont. Also plenty of other beers from vintage Belgian classics to more modern styles like imperial stouts from Central Waters, Cycle, Schramm's poured by the glass. Food was great, from appetizer to desert. And all praise goes for the service. Raf and his GW family are super friendly, his father showed us the beer cellar (which is very impressive). Wasn't sure what to expect, but this turned out to be one of the greatest beer experiences I've had.“

“We had such a great night at the Gebrande Winning: superb hospitality, quality food and yeah, great great beers! Fresh and hyped stouts and IPA's, trappist and vintage Belgian ales (think Orval from 1966...) and the best geuze/lambiek I have ever seen: Antidoot, 3F, Cantillon and the mighty Bokke (standard +/- 20 bottles of Bokke and some extra rare in the cellars). Highly recommended, cheers!“

“I went for a nice dinner with a friend of mine in this restaurant. Man, what an expierence!!! They have an incredible beer menu with an insane geuze and lambic menu ... Never seen anything like that before! The chef of this restaurant definitely knows how to give a unique experience thru the secrets of his grandmothers kitchen ... When you don't love this place, you can't say that you love beer at all!“

“Came for the beer, stayed for the food! That's a good summary, I guess. This place had been on my watch list for quite a while. When my local brewery decided to do a launch of a new collab beer in this restaurant, I decided to finally head down. We were pleasantly surprised by a very nice food and beer pairing menu. Raf's cuisine is just excellent! Modern food, original flavour combinations, good quality ingredients. And God knows I'm very demanding when it comes to food. Usually the restaurants who meet my demands in food preparation quality, are so high end, there's little to no focus on beer, but only on wine. Not here though! The beer menu is amazingly elaborate! The last couple of years there's been a huge shift in focus to lambic and wild fermentation in the beer menu, but also towards the modern (foreign) craft beer revolution, with even a few side trips towards cider and mead. You can ask for drinking suggestions with your food, or order yourself. I will be back for sure!“

“The place to be with a second to none beer menu. The food is classical with a twist from chef Raf. All plates come with beer association or you can choose from the beer menu. This restaurant sets a new standard in beer pairing. For beer fans, you cannot visit Europe without coming to Sint-truiden.“

“Located in the small town of Sint-Truiden, in Belgian Limburg, the restaurant is easy to spot and has dedicated parkingspace for customers. The restaurant itself is cozy & warm, with loads of beer related decoration. It has multiple dining rooms, all with a different vibe. The food is excellent and priced accordingly, you can choose to have them pair beers with the course(s) you selected or make your own choice from their on-site (stellar) selection! Service is is great and the staff/chef is knowledgable and very friendly. All in all a must visit for beerlovers and foodlovers alike!“

“It is one of the best restaurants in the world to make a beer pairing. The food is exquisite and the beer selection second to none. The restaurant is led by Raf Stimorol and he makes you feel at home. He is friendly, attentive and always ready to advise on food and beer. He has a beer reserve that is very difficult to match and impossible to beat. For me, the best place in the whole world. If you are an unconditional lover of good beer, you must go to this restaurant once in your life.“

“Blown away by this place. Booked one day in advance because I didn't plan my trip very well. Went at lunchtime and I had the feeling that they opened especially for us (we were the only two guests). The reception was very warm and friendly, we felt immediately at home. We took the three-course menu suggested by the chef and it was simply delicious. Every plate came as a piece of art to the table, flavours were spot on and while finishing the desert, I was already planning my next trip to this great place. The beer menu is out of this world. Vintage Trappists, Antidoot, Bokke, the regular lambics, some foreign brewers as well. Better come with public transport, designated driver or stay-over in Sint-Truiden because there's too much on the beer menu that you will want to try. Can't wait to go back!“

“Ik bracht deze plaats een bezoekje tijdens hun jaarlijks bierfestival. De food en bier combinaties die geserveerd werden, waren een match in heaven. Alleen spijtig (voor iemand die echt geen bitter lust) dat de meeste bieren die in de toer waren inbegrepen bitter waren. Maar na dit als een verbeterpuntje te melden aan de eigenaar, werd dit wel direct op een zeer professionele manier opgelost. De selectie van bieren is uitgebreid, divers en vol met aangename verassingen.“

“This place goes directly to the top in the list of the best places in Belgium for beer&food combo. Ambiance is very old-style and no touristic at all (me and my gf was probably the only foreign people in the place). The food offer is delicious with a great focus on local and seasonal ingredients, from the entrees to the desserts. We had an amazing prawn/shrimps salad, so fresh, so well designed for the weather (it was July). Raf, the owner, has a very scrupulous care for the customers, he will take care of you with all the proper explanations. Last but not least, we are on Ratebeer and you'd like to know about the beer menu. Did I mentioned that this place has an extensive list of Bokke, 3F, Cantillon, Antidoot? This spot is a lambic kingdom, no way. Prices are reasonable, especially compared to other european bars. It is a MUST visit when around Brussels.“

“When I first began to develop intellectual interest in beer and its history, more than two decades ago, one of the first things I came to realize was how underprivileged beer was - and to 'non-beery' people very often still is - at the time compared to wine, in spite of being much older and much more diverse; I have often stated that the revolution of artisanal beer we are now experiencing, would only be completed when beer will achieve the same broad social status as wine, especially in a gastronomical context. Even the finest restaurants in the world are usually rather oblivious to the incredible diversity in flavours that beer as a whole has to offer (though admittedly progress has been made since). Several beer-themed restaurants have popped up since then, but never have I seen anything like the Gebrande Winning in Sint-Truiden, in the south of the province of Limburg. The owner, Raf Sainte, is also the head chef, and has apparently worked on Michelin-starred standard earlier on in his career, but fate would have it that he is also passionate about beer - and so I found myself in what could well be the first 'beer restaurant' ever that is aptly equipped to stand up against the dominance of wine in the gastronomical world. The food he prepares shows his skills as a top chef - everything farm fresh, with a creative audacity, even boldness (an amazing surf and turf combination of cuttlefish and stewed oxtail to name just one example) that I have not yet encountered in any beer restaurant, at least not at this level of quality. The place is spacious, clean and cosy at the same time and has a beautiful patio which seems like the perfect place to enjoy a sample from the 'special' beer list, encased in wood so as to compel respect and esteem, and showcasing the treasure of bottles that lie maturing in the restaurant's cellar: a plethora of lambics, aged sours and worthy Belgian ales (an extensive range of vintages of La Trappe Oak Aged, Winterkoninkske Grand Cru, Orval and the like), including - this will have the geeks drooling - a dozen different Bokkereyders and several Antidoots. Clearly this place is not all about Belgian traditions alone (not that there is anything wrong with that per se): Gebrande Winning has concern for the new trends as well, and the menu also offers beers from several foreign craft brewers, such as Poppels from Sweden and Founders from the United States. I was lucky enough to be invited to a foodpairing event that took place inside the restaurant and after sampling some wonderful bottles afterwards in the patio, I left this place - or rather, we got a ride to our hotel from Raf himself, to my utmost appreciation - with a feeling of emotion, admiration and deep contentment, contentment that finally, beer gets the treatment, gastronomical grandeur and respect it deserves, at least in Sint-Truiden. This place breathes passion, not least because of the charismatic personality of its owner, whose generosity, amiability and hospitality will remain stuck at the top of my list of most precious beer memories ever. Gebrande Winning deserves all the praise and acclaim it can get - this is putting not just Limburg, but Belgium on the beer map again the way it should be done. And I know that I am making a very bold statement here, but this may well be the first serious contender among beer-themed restaurants in Europe to receive Michelin star recognition one day... I could not wait to return for a full dinner experience, and after a few difficult Covid years, finally managed to do so in early January 2023; it seems the sheer quality of the place was even upgraded since my first visit, with a very sociable, efficient and knowledgeable beer sommelier at work, offering apt introductions to the beers served with the menu and effortlessly offering alternative beers when something just happened to be out of stock. As expected, the food was excellent, sophisticated and daring, the setting as classy, warming and agreeable as imagined and service, in one word, impeccable. It would probably go too far to describe the course of the evening in detail as this rating is already much longer than any of my other place ratings, but in general: we had an unforgettable evening, hopefully we will be able to return many more times in the future – and even more so than after that first evening, during which I merely joined the Abbey Street Beer Club without taking full dinner, I am more convinced than ever that Gebrande Winning has the potential to be the first beer restaurant in the world to receive ‘official’ recognition in the form of a Michelin star (have some extra points for that). And when Raf and his team do, it will be fully deserved – and I will hopefully be there to congratulate these wonderful people.“
