BeerLovers Shop LLN (Beer Store)
8 RUE DES WALLONS
“A shop in the city center with a decent selection of Belgian beers and a few foreign ones. The shop looks interesting, but the guy who attended me didn't talk much. He didn't even try to help me out. Prices are average for such a place, one can even do a bargain on a few rarer beers. The shop also sells stronger drinks, mainly whisky. I nearly didn't find the place, because it's located in a small, closed shopping gallery.“

Creperie Bretonne (Restaurant)
PLACE DES BRABANCONS 1A
“Creperie with wooden tables and seats. Cosy. approx. 100 bottles of beers. More common ones but also some interesting like rarer beers from de la Senne, Struise (Blue monk) and lots of lambics. Prices are very good. Service isn't very knowlegdeable.“

BeerLovers Shop LLN (Beer Store)
8 RUE DES WALLONS
“Visited the Shop and the Café. Pretty large selection of bottles, predominantly Belgian brews. Virtually all bottles from the shop can be had at the café. Prices were steep though, even for the bottles from the shop (I would reckon the local Delhaize supermarket sells some of the same beers for half or a third of the prices quoted here). Probably because they seem to aim for the tourist population....a bit of a let down, but that seems to be the way for many ’modern’ bottle shops and pubs.“

“Nice restaurant in a prime location with lots of outdoor seating. Nice interior too. Table service is by far, hands down, the fastest I have ever experienced in Belgium, maybe anywhere in Europe. Not super friendly and many of the waiters speak no English, but remarkably efficient. Beer selection is not super exciting, they have a dozen or so respectable bottles on offer at reasonable prices. Food is nice and is well presented. A few inexpensive options but mostly in the 15€+ range for dinner. If you want beer with dinner and want something other than a crêpe, this is your best bet. “

Beer Bar (Bar)
GRAND RUE 5
“The name says it all I guess, it’s a beer bar! A little hard to find if only because the crowd out front blocks the sign in the window (also the location on the ratebeer map is wildly inaccurate), so just look for the crowd on Grand Rue and you’ve found it. Large very dark interior with darts etc. It’s nicer to sit outside. Larger tap list than most places, but there’s nothing special and it never changes. There’s more interesting stuff on the bottle menu and they have new arrivals listed on the walls. Student crowd. Service is pretty clueless, but not rude or anything. No food. No wifi.“

“Update: They are now brewing beer on premises. Quality is highly variable from batch to batch. Located right above the Creperie Bretonne. Not exactly a brewpub but an outlet for the Bush brewery. I didn’t get the impression that any beer was actually brewed on premises. Has 6-8 Bush beers on tap and a few overpriced bottles. The thing to get here is the flight of the 4 flagship beers for 5€. Beyond that they sometimes have a special beer on tap and that’s it. Bartenders are friendly. Crowd is young and lively.“

Creperie Bretonne (Restaurant)
PLACE DES BRABANCONS 1A
“A local institution. Very casual with kids running in to get ice cream and student hanging out on the patio. Service is typical for Belgium, meaning slow and surly. But once you get the servers attention (this can take half an hour) they bring you your beer in under a minute in branded glassware and an amuse bouche paired to the beer you ordered. Bottle list stretches into the triple digits and unlike a lot of places they actually have everything on the list. There isn’t a lot of information about the beers so you either have to know what you want, guess, or ask for the wifi password. They also have a wide selection of crepes with all manner of fillings. Beer prices are quite ok, but food prices are ridiculous given the middling quality and casual setting.“

20 /100 GALERIE SAINT-HUBERT - 8, RUE DES WALLONS
“This small shop in the louvain la neuve city center was looking quite promissing, untill i came into contact with the shop owner. Beer is for me all about good mood, sharing and discovering. This a-hole was clearly a rude f*cking bastard, didn’t like me asking questions or asking for prices. He sells overpriced, sometimes at really ridiculous prices. A true shame for the Louvain la neuve special beer drinking community to have this shop in their city center. I gave the lowest score i could give, and i recommend everybody to ignore this horrible place.“

A éviter.“

“The place is own by students who serve behind the bar. The two main features here : 1) They really REALLY have every trappist beers bottled (33cl and 75cl) by the abbeys, even those you can’t buy or find easily. The selection is so complete that any place known to have every trappist beers is just no match for this little bar. 2) The prices are extremely low, almost like in a department store ! Beers are all served in their proper glasses and the staff seems quite knowlegeable about trappists. They even edited a booklet about the beers. Apart from the whole trappist thing, Maes pils on tap as well as another stronger blond ale that changes every week. There’s also a few beers for the ladies. Too bad it’s only open once a week. KUDOS to those students though.“

“Great little hip bar in LLN. Really enjoyed the beer. Good recommendations by the waiter. Seasonal and year round beer. Great for a chill drink alone or with friends. Food is great too.“

64 /100 4 PLACE DES BRABANCONS
“I found this place while looking for Creperie Bretonne. This is a great stop for me between Brussels and Germany. It is a Uni town and it was nice on this spring day to see so many young women in summer dresses and skirts instead of pants. Ah the Wallionians, if those young women know what their great grandfathers were doing with Leon Degrelle they would freak, anyway back to the brewpub. Location is hard to find if you have a navi it will drive you crazy just park an go into the walking areas and you will find it at some point. It is modern with all of their beers on tap. I did not see any food. Nice Uni pub. A lot cheaper than Brussels.“

PLACE DES BRABANCONS 1A
“The beer list included an impressive range of 75cL bottles, especially Wallonian. This town was founded in the 1960s because of the linguistic divide, and it shows in the beer list: Even the Flemish beer names are translated into French. The only things more impressive than the beer list were the lists of crepes, ice cream sundaes, and imported coffees and teas. This college town itself is somewhat ugly and depressing, IMO, but this cafe makes it worth the visit.“
