“Covid era rating - street parking. Gated outdoor sitting area, and 6 tables or so inside. Loved the music (Ween's Bananas and Blow). 12 house beers, other drafts, wine, and margaritas to go. Friendly staff. Two bathrooms. The one that is tucked away has a nice kids changing table. Unique beers with a couple focusing on honey. Does flights. Limited food menu, but did not eat.“

“Overview: In my first place review of 2017, I finally get to review a place in my hometown of Winchester! The Engine House Deli + Pub (henceforth: EHDP) was actually a mainstay in Winchester during it’s former life as a deli (sans the pub); I spent many days in my youth sipping milkshakes, eating sandwiches that likely included a pickle spear, and probably listening to "American Pie" for the zillionth time in the repurposed fire station, circa 1885. While the vibe of the restaurant I remember remains intact, with it’s checkered, uneven floor, wood burning stove and boarded walls/ceiling, the bar and cooler area are nicely integrated into the existing space. There are several artifacts from local events and history to be seen as well.

Service was Ashley, who was very attentive and friendly without being smothering throughout our visit. When I asked about a brewery on tap that I hadn’t heard about, she asked someone else on staff to quickly get an answer (an IPA from Four Strings in Columbus, OH). All the beer on tap was from either KY (Blue Stallion, left from a recent tap takeover, Rhinegeist, Braxton, Tin Man) or surrounding states; only Steigl Radler hailed from elsewhere. While none of the beers or their styles were too exotic, they represented a nice variety without too much repetition. Food was really quite good; I split the beer cheese appetizer (featuring River Rat beer cheese, which has it’s origins in this establishment) with my son; he seemed happy with his chicken tenders and house-made chips for lunch. My lunch hot brown was a good value @ $8.5 for a very tasty and filling portion, not to mention an imaginative take on the dish. Several dishes also had a cheaper lunch size; beer was mainly poured in shakers, and topped out at $5-6 a pint; $2-3 for a 5 oz. smaller pour, which was available on all beers.

PROS: Comfortable, community oriented vibe; friendly, attentive service; good local beer emphasis; above average pub grub. CONS: Beer selection could be a bit more adventurous. OVERALL: Even when trying to balance my youthful good memories of the original engine house, I still found this to be an exceedingly pleasant stop for lunch + beer. Definitely worth a stop while in town. Free 1-2 hour parking throughout the area, including right in front of the restaurant.“
