78 /100 4724 STERKX RD Visited on a Saturday, early afternoon. It's a nicely done, small space, set off from the road a bit, so easy to drive by. The taproom is bar bones but well appointed, with a wood and gun metal feel. The very small brewing space is easily viewable. They had about 8 beers on tap. Between the ones I sampled, pinted and/or got to have elsewhere, they've all been at least in the "good" category, with a a couple exceptional offerings. The barkeep was super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There weren't many people there, mostly what seemed to be local and regular. Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the area. Brewery #857. |
80 /100 Spirits Food and Friends (Restaurant) 1200 TEXAS AVE Nice restaurant, sports bar feel. Good selection of brews, including locals. Friendly staff, seem to know their stuff. |
80 /100 Hokus Pokus (Beer Store) 4140 JACKSON ST. very nice liquor store, very good beer selection. warm beer shelve is not easily seen, kind of have to look for it. Matthew was very helpful, and extremely knowledgable. |
66 /100 Hokus Pokus (Beer Store) 4140 JACKSON ST. There is a fair selection. Unfortunately it seems you have to sell you soul to a distributor to get a great selection in this relatively small town, but Hokus tries. They have a good bit of higher end stuff for purchase in both twelve and 22 ounce bottles. They lack a bit when it comes to seasonals, getting only a couple per season, but it beats driving to Houston to load up. The staff is great. Very easy going and helpful. The selection has improved over the last couple of years, so I can’t complain! |
84 /100 Hokus Pokus (Beer Store) 4140 JACKSON ST. Great selection of beers. Best in Cenla by far. Friendly staff willing to find items or order them if distribution allows. |
