Deep Creek Beverage (Beer Store)
25297 GARRETT HIGHWAY
“Visited on a Tuesday late morning. Just off Garrett Highway, which is a pretty main road for the area. Good sized parking lot. The place is a nice liquor/wine/beer shop. I enjoyed perusing, though I didn't end up buying anything. They did have beers I was interested in trying, but the only option was to buy 4/6 packs, and I didn't want to commit to that many of the same beer. Not an issue for everybody, but that does keep me from buying beers pretty often. If that doesn't bother you, this place has as good a selection as you will find in the McHenry area.“

“Beautiful location in the rolling hills, but doesn’t take advantage of this - no outside tables at all, only a peek at the hills from windows in the dining area. I settled for a view of the pizza oven from the bar, which was interesting enough. Pizzas were very tasty too, possibly the closest to a genuine Italian crust I’ve had in a long time. No Mountain State seasonals on offer, but they had beers from around the state (of Maryland, that is), including the elusive Assawoman from Ocean City. Generic service, pleasant enough. Worth a stop if you’re nearby.“

“Stopped in here on an early Thursday afternoon. It appears to be a mix between a grocery store and a gas station. There is a small dedicated parking lot. It gives the impression of a higher end grocery store, but on a fairly small scale. The beer is toward the front left of the store. They do allow mixed packs, but it is just of select beers. I was able to build a couple without any repeats or things I had already rated, so I was happy. There were, however beers in stock I would have gotten if I could have just bought one bottle. That is my complaint. Another is that the two women running the cash register seemed pretty uppity and made me feel pretty unwelcome as they were checking me out. Maybe I wasn’t actually worthy of buying their beer. Who knows. Either way I made it out of there with 12 new beers and a cup of coffee. They did have food in the manner of a deli type area. It looked fine, but I wasn’t particularly hungry and I was on my way somewhere else for dinner. Their coffee selection was better than any other gas station I had seen, with single origin roast coffees available from about 10 different countries. That was cool. Even though the old women checking me out were kind of bitchy, I would still come back. Maybe they will grow to like me.“

“Stopped in on an early Thursday afternoon. Their beer selection is in the back left of the store. They have several coolers of six and four packs. Directly across the aisle they have their room temperature beers. Many 4/6 packs, but there were also some 750s and 22 ounce bottles as well as the more expensive small bottles. Unfortunately, they don’t do build your own six-packs. There were a lot of beers I probably would have bought if I didn’t have to commit to a whole pack. The one bottle I did buy was reasonably priced. If I ever am in the area again, I would probably want to check this out again.“

“Very cool looking place with a nice rustic vibe. We sat at the end of the bar which provided a great view of the wood-fired pizza oven. Only four house beers on tap (no seasonal the day we were in) and each was solid. Food was good as well and I can definitely recommend the pizzas. Service was quite poor with the guy behind the bar clearly more interested in chatting with his friends sitting there. Still a pretty good place overall.“

“This is a nice watering hole and eatery located near Big Creek Lake in McHenry, MD. There are two other locations in West Virginia. There were four house beers on tap along with a few guest offerings and some bottles. The interior has a dive, pool hall type feel mixed with a log cabin vibe. Our server was fairly friendly but not exactly prompt. The Sunday special was Bratwurst and it was well-prepared and better priced. This was a good after hike stop to refuel before the drive back to eastern MD.“

“Grocery Store/Gas Station which has been here forever. Really basic craft beer selection, but you can get local stuff & 12 oz singles here, unlike Mchenry Beverage Shop. Has good food selection, prepared & grocery, but it’s a little pricey. Boat docking as well!“

“Stopped for lunch one weekend when vacationing at Deep Creek with friends. Service left something to be desired. Beer selection was okay, 4 of your typical varieties to choose from (ale, blonde, IPA and stout). They were good but nothing special. Flatbreads were very good however. In fact, the flatbreads would bring me back, the beer is secondary.“

“Kind of a strange place. It is a small grocery store, and in the back there is a refrigerator with about 40-50 single bottles. The bottles are mostly local stuff from Pennsylvania. Staff is friendly but doesn’t know anything about beer, (I wasn’t expecting them to either, since it is a grocery store). Overall it’s nothing special and McHenry Beverage Shoppe has more selection, but this is the only place in the area where you can buy single 12 oz. bottles.“

“Can’t confirm address, but map is incorrect. It’s in the plaza across the street from FoodLand/Perkins, before you get to FunLand. Anyway, great selection for the area with tons of BrewDog, Stone, and some other nice imports. Tons of case and sixpack selection to choose from, but not much in the way of single bottle purchase. Prices are a bit high, but it’s kind of a captive audience. Went on Sat afternoon of Memorial Day weekend and the line was incredibly long. Drove down to Arrowhead Grocery and built my own six pack instead.“

“Had lunch hear on a Sat afternoon. Place was not packed, and we say outside on the patio. Beers were OK, but not a huge selection. Menu was pretty decent in terms of selection but I thought a bit overpriced for what you got. Tried the chili (really good) and the fire mountain pizza (really good, too). Service was sketchy, but polite when they were around. I’d go back, but it’s not one to seek out if you’re not going to be near Deep Creek.“

“Stopped by on a trip from Gettysburg to Kentucky on a weekday at the end of April. About 10 miles off the Interstate, easy to find. The 4 "Mountain State" beers on tap were all good examples of the style. I got a sampler and a pint of the Cold Trail Ale. We also had a pizza and some chili that had pulled beef in it. Both hit the spot. The service was spotty, we were the only people in there (off season) and we had to eventually seek out someone to pay the bill. But it was a pleasant experience, and the wi-fi was very convenient, so I’d go back.“

“A pretty good selection of 750s and deuces, and a good variety of six packs. My only complaint is that they don’t offer single 12 oz bottles. The staff is somewhat knowledgeable, though not overly friendly. Standard prices. They don’t really sell any food. Overall not a bad place to pick up some beer, but if you want to make a custom six pack go down the street to Arrowhead Grocery.“

“Nice, clean store w/a good basic micro selection, the best in this area for sure. Nothing amazing, but all the basics, DFH, Rogue, Victory, Rogue, Stone, Chimay, Sam Smith, Magic Hat, etc...Had some seasonals, some Belgians, Plenty of good brew if you didn’t bring anything with you. Had 750’s & Bombers, no 12oz singles though. Had a very large wine selection in an entirely separate room, good spirits selection, & some cigars. Prices didn’t look too bad, particularly for this area. This is the best thing you are gonna find in this area.“

“Beautiful rustic building on a hillside near the Wisp Resort. Large main bar area, separate dining room, & outdoor bar/seating area w/a nice view of the mountains. Four brews, all solid; excellent brick oven pizza’s (they call them flat breads), had some other appetizers, salads, & deserts. I would have liked to see some grilled food or sandwiches, but maybe that will come once they have been open a while. This new pub from this West Virginia Brewer is basically a larger, dressed up version of their pub @ the brewery in Thomas WVA (all the beer is still brewed there), & it is a winner. Great atmosphere, laid back casual fun. Good service...just nice folks. Do not miss this place if you are on Vacation @ Deep Creek Lake. Update 8-16....Have several guest taps now...nice addition!“
