“This was one of the better selections I have seen in a Whole Foods in a long time. While half the space was dedicated to larger brands there were still plenty of bottles from Element, Jack's Abby, and other regional breweries. There was even a special area for higher end rarer bottles including stuff from Almanac.

Sadly few of the cans were readily available as singles. If you want to make your own six pack be prepared for higher prices. It's not the worst markup I've seen but clearly this is not the place for stocking up on small bottles for a tasting. I wish I'd had time to stop at one of the true liquor stores.“

“grabbed 3 bottles for my hotel room and MNF. This place looks small from the outside but my lord do they have a great selection. Some cool locals, barrel aged stuff, sours from all over. massively impressed. Easily has to be the best bottle shop in the area.“

Liquors 44 (Beer Store)
458-9 CAMPUS PLAZA RT. 9
“A grocery store type liquor store in a non-descript shopping centers, there not much remarkable about this place except you can make you’re own sixers and most of the beer was available cold. Of course if you’re going to sell mix sixers you have to make six-pack holders easy to find and not make folks ask for them. Service was typical liquor store stoicism. I’d go head for local sixers but prefer four seasons for more special stuff.“

“Located on route 9 on the way into Amherst. Looks like a trailer sized building from the outside but it’s bigger than it looks from the road. They had of their beer in coolers as well as some solid craft options from both MA as well the region. II didn’t expect to see the Grassroots on the shelf which was a nice surprise. The staff was friendly and personable. Not a bad local.“

“Tiny little whole in the wall with a decent selection of both local and not so local beers. One guy did come ask me if I needed any help, but I would imagine that was due to the fact that the beer area can’t be seen by the register, and I was spending a lot of "alone time" back by the beer...“

“A hidden gem in the Valley. More like a geode. Doesn’t look like much fron the outsde, but there are plenty treasures on the inside.“

“Very decent beer selection here. Lots of good local stuff. I picked up a bottle of FW Parabola and a few regionals. Alright prices. And the food options here, obviously, are great, as is the service. Worth stopping in.“

Liquors 44 (Beer Store)
458-9 CAMPUS PLAZA RT. 9
“Fucking Liquors 44. One of my buddies in college got arrested at Liquors 44 when he tried to use his older brother’s ID to buy a Corsendonk brown 750 and the cashier (who was also from Amherst along with my friend) recognized it as his brother and turned him in. Bitch. But anyway. This store is like a grocery store sized liquor store. Big shopping lists (for underage kids) and big shopping carts are the norm here. They do have some pretty good stuff, considering, but there are much better options in Amherst and Hadley.“

“Great selection of Beer. Has a lot of local beers from the area, including Northampton, Gardner, Holyoke, Springfield, etc. I am a college student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and this is the place that by far has the best selection of craft bees.“

“A dense and packed small store with tons of diversity in all forms of alcohol, not just beer and wine. Staff was on top of things. Prices were fair. Best part was that everything was available as singles. Specials and a number of very regional beers available (People’s Pint, Element, and Paper City).“

“Typical and expectable, with slightly better prices than surrounding stores, but mostly sixers and overpriced bombers. Some singles, but only the bigger bottles. Skip this and just go to Four Seasons next door.“

“After a frustrating Easter Sunday finding every brewery and brewpub we tried to visit closed, we decided to hole up in a motel just outside Amherst and drink some of the stash in the trunk. Spotting a Whole Foods right next door, I decided to pop in for a few provisions and was pleasantly surprised by the beer selection. Plenty of local stuff from the nearby breweries and even some growlers from those that don’t bottle. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.“

“Not an awful little store. And i mean LITTLE. Blink as you drive by on route 9 and you might miss it. They seem to have more wine and liquor than beer, but a decent selection of the easier-to-find and regional micros such as rogue, dogfish head, and long trail. Nothing too rare or unusual for MA or the northeast in general for that matter aside from maybe Alesmith. Prices are pretty good though, and service isn’t bad either.“

“I was pretty amazed by the selection of very good micros from all over the states but also top notch European beers from Belgium, Norway and Denmark. Obvious that the buyer knows and cares a lot about quality beer and supporting smaller breweries.“

“I think I bought beer at WF once or twice when I lived in Amherst and Hadley. It had a pretty good selection of locals, good craft brands, belgians, etc but couldn’t really compete with the larger liquor stores, at least for college students. And the service was always pretty poor overall.“

“This small little store right off Route 9 on your way into Amherst has a surprisingly nice selection, as does much of western massachusetts. I miss western mass so much. i want some personality in my liquor stores.“

“This is one of the only places in the area with some of the rarer and better brews. For example, Alesmith Speedway Stout, Great Divide Yeti and (Oak aged), and Dogfish Raisin Extra and Head World Wide Imperial Stout. Spirit Haus is bigger and has a better belgian selection but this place has a better selection overall. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The only problems are the size of this place( it’s tiny) and difficulty reaching from UMASS.“

“Another good beer selection at a Whole Foods. Lots of selection, though more pricey than the individual stores. Ryan and Casey, a must visit if you headed north, and Town and Counry if you are headed south. Reasonable import selection. And of course the food accompaniments to a health-conciousness person, like Me, are second-to-none.“

“Maybe it’s because I come from a beer-poor state like New Hampshire, but they had a surprisingly big beer selection here, in a whole foods store of all places. Lots of micros and regionals. If you can’t find Spirit Haus in Amherst, this is a good stop.“

“While this selection may not be far above that found elsewhere in the vicinity, I didn’t find any better. Good selection of Stone, some Weyerbacher, and MA & ME beers and more. Worth a visit if you’re coming from afar like me and decide to go to the Moan & Dove (not all too far).“
