“So many restaurants have cycled through this location, that it’s such a blessing to finally have one that scored big on fantastic barbeque and an amazing beer list. Of all the places I’ve been in Michigan, this one has the tighest combination of ambiance, beer, and food that matchest my personality, especially when it’s only 10 minutes away from where I’m staying and right on Lake Superior. It’s a hipsters dream and they reference that. The barbeque reminds me of Fette Sau in Brooklyn, as does the beer list, local bros with some new wave Scandavians thrown in. The rather lengthy draft list comes with 4 oz options, which is a ticker’s dream and the list is dominated by Michigan brewers, as it should be. Bummed I missed Deb’s Red Ale by a day. A destination worth the journey.“

“Located about as far north as one can travel in the great state of Michigan, The Fitz lies silent on the beautiful shores of Lake Superior. The six taps are kept rotated, making sure to serve a crisp fresh product, and lines maintained. Featuring as many Michigan beers as possible, some of your favorites from Bells, Founders, New Holland, Shorts, and Keweenaw Brewing Company are sure to be on tap. The bottle selection is ever expanding, with additions this past year of a few Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversaries, Ola Dubh 12, J.W. Lees Harvest 2007, a few different Shorts brews, Rochefort 10, and a few Flemish style ales including Monks Cafe Flemish Sour, and Petrus Aged Pale Ale. Focused mostly on local Michigan beers, the Fitz has a variety of imports from Belgium and Germany. The food is fantastic as well, featuring a variety of menu items from fresh Lake Superior Whitefish, Pecan Encrusted Walleye, Filet Mignon, burgers, and an array of smoked meat from our Old Hickory Smoker. Definitely the best beer selection in the Keweenaw/Houghton area, be sure to stop by to check it out. Sells bottled beer to go at discount rates. Open from April to November. Can be packed at times, so call ahead to check hours and availability.“
