“I was here aboute 2003 when I work at Pharmacia & Upjohn and was aat an exchange between the Swedish site and the American site for 3 months. OK food but nothing to remember. Had a big selection of different cans and bottles but perhaps not the best beer from the different countries (at that time). They har Pripps from Sweden wich at that time (and now) isn’t one of the better beers from Sweden.“

“Stopped in here last weekend after having gone many times in the past. The draft selection is a bit mediocre. Normally there’s a Bell’s draft and that’s about it for craft. That’s normally Two Hearted, but they unfortunately switch that tap to Oberon during the summer. Bottle menu has 300 or so entries. Ambiance is laid back with a bid cichlid-filled fish tank at the front. Service is always cordial, though beer knowledge is not high.“

“A restaurant/bar that my wife and I stopped into to check out because it was decently rated on RB. I was disappointed. The bartender was nice, but she didn’t know beer. They have a decent international selection, but their U.S. Beer selection is embarrassing, as is their draft selection. Needless to say, I won’t be back.“

“My roadtrip this year started with some familiar stomping grounds- it’s across the street from the Old Hat and I’d see from across the street when it was there. So a friend invited me on the way up to have a bite to eat- decent looking place on the inside, 200+ beer selection, food that fills you up. But as my friend noted, I sure did stare at the our old stomping grounds across Main the majority of the time I was there in Big T’s. Yeah, I sure did.“

“Was really impressed with beer bottle selection but nothing special on tap. Tried an expensive Ale from beer menu that was a bit over ripe but very unique bottle array. Surprised to find no beer from Old Hat Brewery which was across street. Great burgers!“

“When you are driving to and fro Chicago to Detroit on I 94 this is must stop going south at the Paw Paw exit. Huge beer selection with a couple of taps from Old Hat from across the street. The bluegill dinner must have had a dozen or so fish on my plate. Yum. Highly recommended.“

“Ended up there right at their 4:00 opening on Monday, which resulted in a crowd consisting of 5 local regulars and what looked to be life-passed-by, over the hill alcoholic trying to fit in with these regulars. Though the regulars certainly enjoyed the beer, they were very much the "I like this shit cuz it’s good n dark" sort of drinkers.

Contrary to their opinion, the bartender, a slutty 20-something who somehow looked over the hill herself, commented, "The schwarz? You like the schwarz? That’s the worst beer we’ve ever made! I don’t like the aftertaste." Granted, this was to folks she knew very well, it’s not as though she was trying to rep the brewpub like that, but still off-putting for a beer traveler. Also a bit unusual for me, when she looked at my ID, she commented, "Oh, you have the same birthday as..." and at this point I’m praying she doesn’t finish with "me." But instead she says, "my son’s father." And finally, a little later, again talking to the locals, she weaves the story of her weekend: "OMG, I went to a weddinggggg, and I got sooooo drunk! I came here and spilled a glass of wine all over myself...and that was before I really got wasted!!!!!"

So maybe I’m a little too judgmental of people, but cementing my opinion of the service, I ordered the Vienna and was served an orangey, cloudy beverage that smelled strongly of cherries with some pale malts. This was not the Vienna. I politely asked if it was definitely the Vienna. "Yes." Cold stare.

Though this Cherry Baby was fine for what it was, and the pale ale was quite nice too, I have never felt so out of place in a brewpub as I did here and promptly decided to leave despite the numerous other beers on the list.“

“An odd place. A decent brewpub stuck in the middle of a very small, poor, rural town. I got there close to opening time and there were only regulars there. As a beer traveler, I definitely felt out of place even though this brewpub does make beer good enough to attract travelers. Maybe it was the time of day, I don’t know, but the atmosphere was definitely off-putting. The service was poor and was the reason I only stayed for 1 beer (see above review for the story...). A disappointing stop and a place I certainly wouldn’t consider a "beer destination" unless you live within 10 miles.“

“Went here between a Bells to Livery tour. Clean older building with parking on the street. Nice selection of taps and a back wall of glass for the brewing operation. Good selection of average to above average beers. Very freindly service. Nice comfortable place to have a drink or beer. I will go agian when I am in town.“

“Big T’s has a 254 beer selection! You can join their "beer drinking club" for $1 (but not required for any purchases. Lots of hard to find stuff there. It’s a great place to go to try some new things. One of the best things about Big T’s is that you can buy any these rare bottles of beer TO GO (and for about $2 cheaper than sit down prices too). I will definitely revisit when I go home again.“

“Old hat has very drinkable beers, and by that I mean you can drink a lot of them. None of the beers were too heavy, too bitter, too much alcohol or anything that would prevent you from tipping back many. I liked the small town feel with a brew pub right on the main drag. The building was once associated with Bell’s brewing company. I like what Old Hat has made it.“

“This is a neat old place. Good brews, the 3 or so times I’ve been there. Focused more on traditional German recipes, but had some good darker stuff too. Good to see the local community supports it. A brew pub in a town this size would normally be out of business in under a year.“

“(Visited 7-9-08) What in the world makes you think that I wouldn’t stop by?!? My favorite brewpub- EVER. Fellow patrons- bikers, farmers fresh from the field, unemployed factory workers, grandmothers on fixed incomes- if you can’t smell the blue collar, get a new nose. Food- decent in taste, size, and price, but I was here for the beer. Service- 1 bartender and 1 server, and the place was standing room only at 6pm on a Wednesday night, but they ran their butts off and had some time to talk. 10 taps on hand to take the stress away, and the bartender was more than happy to give me as many samples as I wanted (no mention of RB either on my part either!!!). The only brewery that makes me wish I lived in Southern Michigan, because I really miss this place! Too bad NO ONE here on the site stops by, a true hidden gem a stone’s throw away from Bell’s. When the BELLS SUCKS shirts come in, let me know. Hey, even the grandma sitting beside me wanted one!!!“

“Here’s what every small town needs: its own brewpub right downtown. But that’s kind of a simplistic view: this was actually a side project from nearby Bell’s that was bought out by the current owners. But still, the kind of thing I wish my hometown had (where the only thing on tap has "Light" in its name). Since the first rating, much of the wall space is covered with mug club mugs. Bar lady was happy to pour out as many samples as she felt like, even before I promised I’d buy at least one whole beer, and in fact seemed anxious to know that I would be rating the place: as you can see, they need a bit more word of mouth in the beer community. But many locals were here for the beer, and a few other beer travelers like me. Lots of space, brew works visible in back, and a generally nice small town pub environment.“

“Typical brewpub site on the main drag in tiny Lawton, Michigan. The brewery occupies an old building with brick walls and hardwood ceilings/floors. The paneling above the bar is covered with a variety of different hats (get it?), and the ceiling is adorned with crumpled $1 bills. There were 7 beers on tap when I visited, mostly lagers, and there was one wine offering. Typical brewpub food; my burger was very good after a day of field work. A handful of regulars occupied the place when I was there but the pub was otherwise quiet. A good beer stop in small-town America.“
