84 /100 24 S. WHITTAKER STREET If you couldn't guess, it's in an old church. Large patio. Have brunch every Saturday and Sunday so opens early (9AM Eastern). Nice selection of beers and ice cream too. Nice place. |
76 /100 17684 US HWY 12 Visited early evening on a Saturday. Located right off the highway, a bit less than a mile North of New Buffalo main street. Giant shiny new brewery, located next to a pretty wetland. Big open room with plenty of seating at the bar and tables. Also a pretty outdoor space which I am sure is amazing in the summer. The beer selection is 7 house beers, available as full pour, 4 beer tasting flights or crowler to go. Service at the bar was knowledgeable and friendly. I only had time for one beer and a crowler to go, I would have liked to hang out for a while. (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time) I only use the total score, not the component parts. |
70 /100 24 S. WHITTAKER STREET Visited for beers on a Saturday afternoon. Located at the end of the New Buffalo main street, it is easy to spot the large white church. Parking is on the street or a lot behind the building. The interior is a large, lofted renovation of the church. Seats at the bar, high tops, or tables around the perimeter. They also have a large, multi level outdoor space which I am sure is hopping in the summer. The beer selection is 12 house brewed beers, available as full, 12 oz or 5 oz pour with many of the beers available to go as cans or bottles. Service was attentive. The food (particularly the pizzas) looked great, though we didn’t eat. Worth the stop. (Locals should check it out, visitors who are in the area) I only use the total score, not the component parts. |
70 /100 24 S. WHITTAKER STREET Went on a cold winter's day. Interior is still under renovation so they just have a small section in the front open. Only have 6 of their own taps and then they keep a few local ciders around. Will be really nice next summer when more of it is open and they have the nice looking side lot/patio open and I will likely re-rate it with a higher ambiance score then, but currently the interior is a bit drab and small. |
82 /100 Bentwood Tavern (Restaurant) 600 W WATER ST As good a restaurant as you’ll find the area, featuring Jenny from the late, lamented, Jenny’s Restaurant in Union Pier. Outstanding, outdoor seating overlooking the Marina. Last, but not least here, they always have a good, local Michigan selection of craft beers on tap, with several from Bell’s. Without confirming on their web site, I’d say that they have 8 taps, and then more bottles. My score reflects the limited selection of a restaurant, but this spot is highly recommended. |
66 /100 Bentwood Tavern (Restaurant) 600 W WATER ST Visited on Saturday 03/11/12 at 9.45pm. Place was half full, lragely a restaurant but seats at the bar where we pitched up for half an hour. We had planned to eat here but thanks to Amtrak being 90 minutes late we didn’t have time - the food looked excellent! 8 taps with a few regulars and 2 or 3 seasonals including Bells Expedition Stout and Oracle on this visit. Service was friendly and efficient.
Not a destination venue but you’ll get a good meal here and some solid beers. |
34 /100 New Buffalo Pharmacy (Beer Store) 1 N WHITTAKER ST Let go back to the 1960’s... that is what the New Buffalo Pharmacy is like. Sure they have Michigan micros like Shorts and a few others but that is it. Only need to stop here is an act of desperation. |
50 /100 New Buffalo Pharmacy (Beer Store) 1 N WHITTAKER ST Not really a place I’d go out of my way to visit, but they do have 4 varieties of Short’s sixers. |
34 /100 Four Winds Casino Resort (Restaurant) 11111 WILSON RD. Personally, I think this place should be removed. I’ve been a couple of times. You can get Bells, Founders, and Great Lakes stuff here. Its full of smoke, and loud as hell. There’s got to be another place near by. |
