“Visited on a Friday, early afternoon. Located on the North side of Duluth, right where 61 / 35 meet. Small, busy parking lot. Beer selection is solid, with all of the local Duluth and Superior breweries represented. I didn’t see a single, or mix a six selection. No service to speak of, though the cashier was friendly. If you are headed north on 61, good place to stock up. (Locals should check it out, visitors who are in the area) I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“I stopped in here 5/20/2022 while visiting people in Duluth. They did not sell singles, not even a pic 6. I grabbed a couple decent 4 packs quickly since my wife was waiting in the car! More liquor than beer in this store.“

“Located in area I call tourist row cause it's all hotels, Bars, restaurants, shopping and a nice park walk area a long the water. I stopped in here both the 2 summers we visited my daughter in Duluth. Got some good 4 packs there. Talked to the workers about good places to play Disc golf nearby besides the Beer.“

“Visibly right off the main drag, a bit of a chore to locate, but worth it! Old construction, but a familiar feel, with a band, food trucks, good service, and higher end brews. Comfortable destination to stay awhile and soak it in.“

“New, trendy & mobbed, especially during our visit over the Labor Day weekend. Excellent position near the Canal Park harbor & walkway, with outdoor seating facing the lake. Chose the bar and a flight session, and found friendly service, good food, but average brews at this point. Ideal for newbs, rookies, and tourists, but got a good vibe, nonetheless. Will return.“

“A newish looking brewery along the waterfront in downtown Duluth. Large open floor plan which bleeds into street seating. Large bar with plenty of their own taps. Friendly bar tenders. Jess and I stopped at the brewery on our way to the fam reunion in 2022.“

“On way back to hotel after out drinking we came upon this place. They have one wall of craft beer in the fridge. I got 2 good 4 packs there. Lots of Macro Beer around but some decent Craft selection as well.“

“Went there for lunch with Erica, Patty and Ben. No wait staff. You stand in line, one register, order food and Beer at same time. You take your Beer to your table and they bring the food to you when ready. I had a great Hazy Lift Bridge Beer and a KBS Espresso. Everyone liked their food and drinks!“

“Stopped in here our last trip to Duluth with Patty, Erica and Ben. Great little tasting room with clean bathrooms and industrial feel. Open bay window gives views of the brew room. Wood bar with sheet metal and exposed brick. Nice north facing window gives some beautiful sights. “

“Last night met Erica and Ben here for dinner. The pizza's were nice but burnt crusts. A dozen of their beers on tap. I had small glass of 7 of them (I was driving) Half of them were in Crowlers to go. We stayed inside cause it rained. Large outside area with half under roof. Nice place, had a good time.“

“Stopped in tonight while out driving back from time with Erica. Got a highly rated NEIPA 4pk and a great RIS 4pk too. Place is mostly Liquor and wine and lots of Macro beer, but a decent section labeled Craft Beer! I did have some nice choices. NO SINGLE CRAFT BEER CANS though!“

“Closest place for food and drink to the Lift Bridge. Since we are in the Lift Bridge Lodge, close by us too. We ate here twice last year and Patty wanted her favorite sandwich again today. What I hate is the girl that seats you from downstairs says your server can get you the same beer if you are upstairs or down stairs... she is lying!!! After going upstairs I remembered last year. After server only had a few beer selections, ?I walked downstairs and got myself a beer I wanted from the larger downstairs list. Food was good though. A year later we had lunch downstairs and had great service from a nice lady who says she was working there for 44 years!“

“Visited with Al and Lauren, Jess and Kristen before Winchell's wedding in 2021. Easily bests Hoops as the better brewery in this part of town. Beers were okay and the food (especially the curds and fish and chips) were solid. Huge lines if you wait on a weekend.“

“My favorite brewery in Duluth. A little off the beaten path, but not far from kindred cideries and Bent Paddle. The space itself is quite nice inside with a solid and inviting beer garden. Best I saw in the city. Didn't try the food but the music selection was pretty good to boot. Visited prior to Winchell's wedding in 2021.“

“A nice taproom in an up and coming part of Duluth near the interstate overpasses. Solid inside area with decent outside seating. Plenty of their own brews on tap, and it helped they were all pretty good. Visited before Winchell's wedding in 2021.“

“Great location if you're staying along Canal Park and even better if you're in the Suites. As Winchell warned me before his wedding, its more a quantity over quality type of brewery however. Ample portions, but forgettable brews. Even so, I'd prefer a brewery in this space to anything else. Visited with Jess, Al, Lauren, Vaughn and Kristen before Winchell's wedding in 2021.“

“While staying at the hotel I had a beer here twice. Once with dinner that went fine and once on hot afternoon I stopped in by myself to the bar for a fast drink. I was waiting on a bar seat while the 2 young guys behind the bar were busy. As soon as a young women came up next to me, one of them was suddenly available and server her fast. I got mind right after. A year later Patty and I stopped in and got service a little faster on a Friday about 2pm.“

“Patty and I stopped in cause it was next to our hotel while visiting Erica in Duluth. Nice big new, clean place. Outdoor seating by fire pits too. About 10 beers on tap. I had a Porter and a NEIPA that we ok but not great. They don't have to put any extra effort or mony into their beers cause there are so many people staying at these hotels and only 2 brewpubs nearby, they'll always be busy anyways.“

“Big place with a large patio. I didn't stick around because the place was packed and it was a long wait for both food to go and a table. But I did talk to the bartender and he was friendly. And I got some crowlers to go. $8-9 each, about 25-26 ounce. Most of the beers on tap are in crowlers ready to go. Lots of styles to pick from. Cracked the first crowler and it's good. An IPA. Interesting place and I'll be back when the pandemic blows over.“

“Randomly drove by so I stopped in. Big inside. Kinda dark but also some natural light. Very friendly bartender. Flights available. 10 or so on tap. Also some cans to go I didn't look at. Tried a flight of four ciders. All drinkable. One was a bit too sweet but I really appreciated that the dry cider was really dry. Overall, nice stop in what has become a nice little beer and cider neighborhood.“

“Bustling corner restaurant at Buchanan & Canal Park Dr. with extensive decking, and a number of umbrella shaded tables that we availed ourselves of. Tasty food, especially the shrimp tacos, and a fair selection of craft beer offerings. Excellent weather and a local artist serenaded the crowd to enhance the experience. I believe this is a member of the Grandma's Saloon group.“

“Strategic spot in Canal Park, kind of a fun combination of north woods & wild west! Scenic top deck, but spent more time at the front outdoor area to the right of the entry. Very good selection of local craft offerings, and somewhere close to 22 taps & 17 bottle & can offerings. Tasty food offerings to supplement the beers. Paired the chicken pot pie with the Bent Paddle Cold Press Black Ale. Worked for me!“

“Ducked in as I walked right by it. Somewhat busy but I easily found a seat at the bar. Dark, slightly upscale Irish pub vibe. Friendly bartender, but the service score gets docked because I asked a question about a beer and just got a "dunno" answer with no effort to find the answer. 4 house beers on tap and I think a house made seltzer. Lots of guest taps with some good selections. Barrel Aged Darkness was on but the bartender could not tell me which version. I was wanting an Irish stout which they did not have so I settled on a brown ale which was tasty and well made. I didn't try all the beers, but the one I tried was well done.“

“Downtown. Big place, but kinda bland. I was dying for food and the mushroom cheddar burger I got was outstanding (but that may have been because I was so hungry). $10 or so for burger and fries. Friendly bartender. Good tap selection, some less common stuff and a good amount of locals. I had one each from Klockow, Hammerheart, Mankato, and Bauhaus. One I tried to get was no longer available. Recommended stop.“

“Downtown style, big and modern.Trendy vibe. Place was near empty early on a Thursday night. Friendly bartenders. Flight of 4 was affordable but I was not allowed to get the barrel aged beers. 4 beers I tried were well executed. Big pretzels and pizzas for sale, but they were out of the pretzel I wanted. :( Oh, by the way, its also an axe throwing bar. Recommended stop.“

“Nice place. Big. Old building and it seems like a separate coffee place is kinda there. Odd setup, but nice. Friendly bartender. Tons of beers on tap across a good range of styles. I tried six and all were very well executed. $2.50 per 4-ish ounce pour (mini-goblets). I'm not sure if there was food. Maybe the best brewery in Duluth, and very close to Canal Park. Highly recommended.“

“Big, newish place right on the lake. This place would be stellar when its not January and looks pretty awesome anyway. Clean feeling inside, but not sterile. Staff all friendly. Did not try the food. Menu looked good but was too pricy. 4 ounce samples are $1.85 each, and they did not upcharge for high gravity stuff. I tried all 10 on tap and they ranged from meh to good. Overall quality kinda middling. Good place for ticks and the view.“

“Cavernous place with lots of businesses but the brewpub itself seemed kinda small and cramped. Cool building. Did not try the food. Beers were solid, not great, and one was a bit off. Good range of styles. Downside is a set flight which includes two seasonals. But you're stuck with larger pours or the same full time beers. Fine for a first timer like me, but still kinda annoying. 7 x 3 ounce flight was $10. Service ranged from standoffish to friendly. Overall a decent stop.“

“This was a really nice brewery in Duluth. Brews were pretty decent and the food was tasty. The location and ambiance are what really define this brewery as a destination. Jess and I visited on our way to Northern Lights in 2018.“

“Huge space. Docklands/warehouse vibe. Bar, small tables, huge beer hall tables. Tvs everywhere, but sound muted. Some in-house snacks, but a list of food delivery options, and they will pick it up for you if necessary. The beers are so far pretty by the style book. Solid with a few standouts. Not the cheapest: $2.50 for a 5oz sample = $10 for 20oz. Crowlers are 9 or 10. At least 16 on tap, plus two nitro. Worth a stop.“

“Located in the historic Fitger’s complex that houses additional shops, restaurants, a coffee shop, Bridgeman’s stand, and a homebrew shop. The interior has a bar area with some seating and there is an additional seating off to the side. I did not check to see if they had a patio. The offer a flight of 7 with 5 standard and you pick the remaining 2. Service was really good and helpful as this was our first visit to Fitger’s. The also had a couple of guest ciders on tap. I would definitely recommend visiting here.“

“Nice brewpub located just off the shore in Canal Park. They a large patio the wraps around two sides of the building plus a decent sized indoor seating area. They were quite busy when we visited but the service was still pretty good. The food was also quite good. The beer is decent enough but it’s their location that makes it worth a visit.“

“While not in the most convenient location of Duluth, well worth the visit. Their taproom is quite small but very nice. Small taproom with a solid amount of seating. It was pretty quiet when I stopped by and I am not too sure on how frequent they hold events. The taproom does not appear to be able to hold large events. Not sure if they get taprooms or if there is any good delivery in the area. The beer is some of the best in all of Minnesota, between their flagships and seasonals, one cannot go wrong. Their double shot double black might be the best beer in all of Minnesota, move over Darkness.“

“This brewpub is a historic gem to Duluth that contains a hotel, multiple bars and restaurants and even some shops. Their main restaurant is very inviting and busy. It offers outdoor seating as well. They frequently hold events but seem to not update their social media to inform others about them. Although I have never had any of their rare highly rated beers, I have had many of their flagships which have always been pretty solid. Their food is delicious and reasonably priced. This is one place I always try to go to when in Duluth.“

“A classic brewpub in an old hotel with a great feel. The place is comprised of a number of small rooms, two contain bars and the rest are used for seating. Place feels like it hasn’t changed in years and has re-purposed an even older bar to give the place a great feel. A small patio out front on the sidewalk as well. Place was hopping but was served quickly. They had about 12ish beers on tap and I didn’t notice if samplers were available. No food on this visit and the prices seemed inline with the area. A true classic IMO.“

“A smallish bar right in downtown Duluth. A bit of sports bar feel to the place with a bar on one wall and high tops on the other. Service was good and bartender kept us up to date on the ever changing taps. Speaking of the taps there was a nice combination of local and non-local with some relatively hard to find beer on tap. Food was standard but good bar fare. Prices on the food were especially cheap, beer a bit steep. I was impressed overall and would stop in again.“

“An older Irish styled bar that has added a brewing capacity to serve their own beers. A dimly lit place that has a bar on one wall and a divided seating area with some pool tables in the back. Place was absolutely packed after APN. Due to this service was quite slow, probably slower than it needed to be. 7-8 beers were on tap that were average at best. Samplers were available. Food was pretty good and prices were solid. I would want to come back when less busy to get a better feel for the service but only a decent spot IMO.“

“A clean feeling brewpub right on the water in Canal Park. A nice feel to the place with large inside and huge patio which makes for great summer seating. Service was good considering the place appeared to be 2x capacity. Only had beers on the visit but bartenders were as quick as they could be. They appeared to have about 10 beers on tap and I did not notice if samplers were available. Prices seemed a bit high but you pay for location. A decent spot overall.“

“This place was OK. They have Fitger’s beer, but if you follow the local beer scene, make it to Fitger’s once a year or so and check out their table at festivals, you are not going to find a new beer here, and it seems they do not bring Fitger’s more adventureous creations over here. I really like the ambiance, and bet it is even better in the evening, with the wood bar and dimly lit interior. Food is overpriced, my sandwhich was just ok and not particularly filling. ----Rarate Summer 2016. Much better experience this time. The food was considerably better. I also saw the rathskeller, and it was definitely one of the coolest places to have a drink I have ever seen. In the basement, the old jail in Duluth’s early days. The prison ambiance is long gone, and now it is a dimly lit bar that I understand is packed in the evenings. I will be back. I suggest considering a cocktail rather than beer.“

“Had read some of the reviews to learn of the rathskeller downstairs. Had I not known about it we would not have found it as there are no signs to indicate it’s even there. When you approach the entrance to Tycoon’s, there is a sign with an arrow leading upstairs to the street level restaurant. No signage to indicate anything about the rathskeller, even when you go downstairs. There was a doorman of sorts hanging out outside, though it was unclear what his job was. He really didn’t say anything to us. The space is memorable, with the original, exposed stone and brick walls, comfortable sofa chair seating, and a dark and intimate bar. Beer selection was what I would describe as good, but falls short of outstanding, but the service was very attentive.“

“Re-rate 3-13-16: It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Fitgers. Certainly 1-2 times since my initial rating on 2004. But apparently long enough that they have had time to add a secondary bar across the hall and a merchandise and growler shop. The original space is virtually unchanged from my very first visit, and that’s a good thing because it’s got an aged, rustic feel to it. It actually feels smaller to me than it did originally. Although they are still making some of the same beers, like El Nino IPA, the breadth and quality of their beers has improved markedly since the early days. On this occasion they had a number of beers on tap in their "Constellation Series". Had the wild rice burger which was outstanding as well as a hummus appetizer that featured quite possibly the tastiest pita bread I’ve ever had. 10-29-04: This is a great place for atmosphere and location (inn and brewery shopping complex down by the water in downtown Duluth). They have an excellent selection of brews. However, their beers can be hit or miss. Definitely a place for any self respecting Ratebeerian to visit if in town.“
