“Last brewery of the night. I have enjoyed the few things I have tried from them so I was looking forward to this stop. Near enough to Uptown, but far enough that its a more industrial area and they have their own parking lot, which helps. Signage is a bit iffy at night but it is where Gmaps says it is. Doing reasonably well on a Tuesday evening. Bar dominates the front, spots available. I bellied up and ordered a flight. As I recall the flights are annoying set for you and do not include the high-octane stuff. However the bartender hooked me up with a couple of free samples of the off-flight beers I wanted to try, so kudos to customer service! I was generally impressed with the beer pretty much across the board. Nothing made me see God, but it was all well above average. This is a place I would frequent if it were closer.“

“Interesting that ratings from 2015 mentioned this place being packed, while my recent visit on a Saturday evening was opposite. Got in with no wait and tons of open seating. With this being a chain, it is at least my 4th city, so knew what to expect - large drink and food menu, most beers are not exciting, but Grand Cru of the Emperor was on, so that was nice. The service is hit or miss and on this visit was quite terrible. The prices on the custom flight was atrocious, thankfully I had a gift card. Don’t see myself going back to this location unless part of an event where I get free drinks.“

“Large bowling alley with a couple different bars. Mostly macros and a few local micros, i.e.: badger hill, steel toe, summit, surly. Not a bad spot to go with the gang after work.“

“ Neat location being close to Uptown in an industrial park. Their taproom is pretty basic and kind of dark. It always seems pretty busy. The service is usually solid and the pours are generous for the price. It kind of seems like their variety lacks if one is looking for a variety of session able beers. They often have food tucks and have outdoor seating. One issue is their quality seems to have plateaued if not slightly declined. Size 7 was my go to IPA but everyone seems to be catching up and this beer seems like it is losing its charm.“

“A pretty standard Granite City layout here. Decor feels like a chain restaurant with a bar area with TVs in one room and a more traditional dining area in the other. Service is pretty good but other than the bartender not too beer oriented. They have 6-8 beers on tap with samplers available. Food is pretty standard chain fare. You can usually find something you like. Prices are inline with the area. Not too much here.“

“Warehouse vibe, comfortable. Beers were well executed. Not a huge number of selections but what is there is excellent. Staff was helpful. Parking easy. Good prices. Definitely a worthy stop.“

“Small room with the bar, but a sizeable expansion into the brewhouse. Looks like a "patio" roped off in the parking lot. Simple industrial feel. But the beer is great. Basic 5 are always on, plus one or two seasonal/specials, and 4 or 4.50 pints of flagships is fantastic.“

“Big parking lot, light industrial location. First room is concrete block with a nice wooden bar. Larger party room in back. Brewhouse not visible. 5 x 4 ounce taster flights, six beers plus a blend (why on earth would you blend a beer? why not just brew one more style?). Beers were very solid, some of the best we had on this trip. Good stop, worth going out of your way to visit. Score suffers from small selection but the beers are great.“

“I echo some of the same sentiments of this place as JK. Massive tap beer selection which includes some of my favorites, but for such a large selection seems to never have a lot that I haven’t already had. Most of the beer menu is static, but they do have 8-10 rotating taps that will offer something you probably haven’t had. Really cool interior, dark with glass windows that enable you to see the sea of kegs in the cooler room. The food is nothing short of outstanding. They have a narrow outdoor patio in the alley between them and the former Toby Keith’s. They have outdoor TVs, which is nice, with the only negative being that alley almost never gets sunlight. Overall a worthy beer destination.“

“3/2/16: Re-Rate: Not sure if I missed it or if it wasn’t open, but I retract what I said in my October review about lack of seating. There is now a good-sized back room with additional seating. So, the new spread is a significant upgrade over the original. I still think my fellow raters are overemphasizing the quality of the beer, which is outstanding, in their PLACE review. Despite the upgrades, this is still about middle of the pack as Twin Cities tap rooms go. "Selection" to me does not mean quality of the beers, but rather quantity of different offerings, or variety. 10/30/15 Re-rate: They have now shifted their tap room to the adjacent space to the left of the original tap room. Disappointingly, it’s a virtual mirror image of what they had before, which was grossly lacking in seating capacity. Steel Toe’s Size 4, 7, & 11, Sticker Fight, and Lunker are some of the best beers made in the state of Minnesota for their styles. However, they continue to under leverage the quality of their products by failing to provide adequate vehicles to get them into the hands of consumers. I can’t remember the last time I saw Steel Toe in a liquor store or on tap anywhere other than their tap room. 8/22/13: I expected my score to be better than a 70, but where Steel Toe gets dinged is in selection. There were only 5 beers on tap, which isn’t all that bad for a local taproom, but then again, only 5. The taproom is fairly small, with limited bar stool and rail seating along the perimeter. Still it’s nice, with cool lighting and a flat screen TV behind the bar. You can’t beat the prices, at $4 and $4.50 per pint for some of the best beer brewed in Minnesota. Was there on a Wednesday and was surprised that it went from full to fairly sparse by 6:30. Once they expand their selection and build their reputation, this place is going to be jammed. They are in dire need of an outdoor patio.“

“Pretty standard Irish bar. Decent sized place with standard Irish interior and a patio outside. Service is fine but not beer oriented. A few local craft and traditional Irish pub taps available. Food is decent and prices are steep. If you are in the West End and want beer, Yardhouse is your best bet.“

“Large bar/restaurant located in a shopping center with a slightly upscale corporate feel. Easy access from 394 and plenty of free underground parking available nearby. The tap list is quite big (70? 80?), but there’s nothing really out of the ordinary available. Most things on offer are the kind of mega-craft staples that you could find at any decent bar in the region. I settled on a pint of Surly Hell and was surprised by the reasonable happy hour pricing of my beer. Service was very fast and friendly. Overall, not a destination, but it’s certainly not a bad option if you’re passing through.“

“Not a fan of this place at all, and I don’t anticipate going back. This place was packed, lots of douchy young professionals. Literally nowhere to even stand, which the staff also let us know. Wait time was over an hour. Managed to grab some overpriced All Day’s and left. Big tap listed nothing really exciting you can’t get anywhere else.“

“A large place with a clean industrial feel and some dark wood accents with a large central bar. Place carries a lot of noise. Service was good as I was there with a large group and the place was hopping. A large number of beers on tap but a lot of pretty standard offerings. Food was solid though I only had a few bites. Prices a bit heavy overall.“

“The out-of-the-way location looks a little intimidating for visitors to the twin cities, but it’s actually only a $10 Uber fare from downtown. The place is pretty utilitarian, cramped. I visited at dinner time on a Saturday and found the place to be very busy. Loads of people were rolling through just to pick up growlers. I sat at the bar and worked my way through a reasonably-priced flight. My bartender was pretty chill, and provided free pours of everything that wasn’t included in the flight, so points for service. Steel Toe’s beers are pretty solid across the board. At best, they’re touching world class. I especially enjoyed their hoppy stuff. Overall, definitely worth a detour. I’ll be back.“

“A smaller tap room with a bar on one side surrounded by a wall bar on the other side to offer maximum seating. A very industrial feel. Bartender was efficient despite being extremely busy and knew a lot about the beers. Prices are nice and you can grab a sampler as well if you are looking to try a few things. A solid tap room.“

“A large elongated pub with a long bar that has some awkward spacing with the large pillars. Plenty of seating which is nice. Bartenders were friendly and knew a bit about the beer. Selection was pretty solid but not going to find anything off the beaten path here. They do offer samplers Had a pizza which was solid. Prices are a touch heavy. Solid but nothing special.“

“Thursday afternoon in August ... I don’t think the location of this place is ideal, and they could do a much better job with curb appeal. But all of the beers we tried here were good to great, and that outscores the ambiance. (Brewery #645)“

“Steel Toe is in my opinion the classiest, most respect worthy brewery operating in the twin cities. Their taproom is a utilitarian one, offering fairly priced pours of whatever they are brewing at the time, which is most always limited to about five beers. As such it isn’t a destination in its own right, but simply a place where you can enjoy a fresh tap beer that will likely be scarcely available around town, while grabbing some brewery only bottles or fresh growlers.“

“It is a members only warehouse shopping experience. The selection is not huge, but the prices are pretty decent. They had about 20 different craft brews, and of course they also have the large brewery items and liquor sales as well. Some Costco’s only sell beer and wine. This one has beer, wine, and alcohol, including some of their own brand alcohols which are really good, and a great savings.“

“Large tap list but nothing very interesting, even though there is lots of good beer. This place is packed by 5 pm. Waiting for a table or a place at the the bar can easily be 30 minutes or more. Lots of young people, this is the sort of place I would have gone to as a single young man.“

“This was my 2nd stop (following Surly) on a 6 brewery tour of MSP a few weeks ago. Overall I enjoyed my vist here quite a lot. In fact of all the local beers I tried in my 3 day tour...Steel Toe’s Size 7 IPA was my favorite year round non-seasonal offering. While there I also got to try their Provider Ale, Dissent Dark Ale, and Rainmaker Double Red Ale all of which I enjoyed. The real high point though was getting to kill the keg of their limited Size 11 Triple IPA. Now that was a special beer! I also got to share some pizza with some locals that included one of the assistant brewers from Summit Brewing. All in all I had a very good experience at Steel Toe and would highly recommend a visit here in spite of the relatively small number of selections (quality over quanity is always a good motto!). By the way...in spite of mostly good reviews it seems that most of the reviewers of MSP area craft brweries score much lower than we do back east...not a critcism by any means...just an observation.“

“I’d placed maybe a dozen orders with MW from 2008-2010, was always happy with the quality of their equipment and materials, the crush of their grain, freshness of hops, prices, and speed. They were my favorite among several other outstanding online suppliers (although Austin deserves special recognition, too). My old rating was a cheerful [86].

After several years and several moves to different cities, I’ve started back up brewing at home and decided to go with MW. Really happy I did! Well-packed and fast shipment, everything accounted for and in good shape. Their online support is courteous and, perhaps more importantly, extremely fast (essentially real-time); that’s the main reason I’ll be doing all my online shopping with MW this year.

As for prices, I’m now more aware of what various component pieces cost, and where I previously assumed I’d be paying extra for the convenience of MW-assembled equipment, I can now say their kits and builds cost about as much as if I made them from hardware store pieces; the margins on those items must be pretty thin, and MW must be thriving on volume, which makes sense for such a respectable company. Kudos all around, guys! [100]“

“Visited August 16, 2013 as part of RBSG.

I was worried that we would have to skip this one due to time constraints and I was looking forward to visiting all breweries offered but we did get here after all. Actually we only spent about 45 minutes here but that’s OK as they were busy and we had places to go. The tasting room is small and surrounds the bar. The 20 of us took up most of the room. There was one bartender helping our line and one helping the patrons at the bar so I sat at the bar, removed my name tag, and got service much quicker. They were very nice people too, giving us a free taste when we were torn on which beer to order. There was a keg of the barrel aged Scotch ale on tap when we arrived which kicked and was replaced with the regular Scotch ale. Interesting beer, nice people, but the tasting room seemed a bit out of the way. Not sure how often I’d return.“

“Visited the tasting room on a Saturday evening. The small taproom was mostly full, but there were a couple of seats at the bar. I was a little letdown with the selection when I visited. There were 4 beers on tap, and all of those were available in liquor stores around the metro. I was told that they usually have 1-2 more beers available and will have some special beers. I will have to come back and try again in the future. On a positive note, they offered a sampler tray of their 4 beers and all were quite good, so I can’t complain.“
