“Visited early evening on a Saturday. Located at the end of a strip mall, plenty of parking out front. Brewery is one room inside, with a long bar and tables and sitting nooks throughout. Beer selection was 3 house beers and several guests when I visited. They were recently opened, and are still brewing on their pilot system. Service was very friendly, the crowd was great. I really liked the vibe of this place. I look forward to visiting again when they are fully up and running. Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time. I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Visited on a Friday after lunch. Located in the revitalized downtown area of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. About 200 feet behind Smoke Brewing if you exit through Smoke’s backdoor. Small location with, 2 picnic type tables, a hightop and maybe three seats at a small bar. There is also a bar overlooking the small Brewing kit. Friendly atmosphere right away, very welcoming. The beer selection is a total of 23 beers, 7 of which were Fringe house beers. The also have a handful of cans and bottles to round out the selection and offer macro options. Draft beers are available as 4 oz tasters, or full pours on most beers. Discount for 4 tasters. Friendly knowledgeable service. Snacks (gourmet pretzels and nuts) available.

70 = **½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

“Visited for lunch on a Friday. Located right on a Main Street on the revitalized Lee’s Summit downtown. Street parking out front or lots next to or behind the building. Patio out back for warmer days. Very much a brick, concrete and wood design, nice looking place. Roll up garage door front window, restaurant table and booth seating up front, large U shaped bar in back. At least 18 seats at the bar. The beer selection is 12 beers, 11 of which were house beers + 1 Funkwerks guest. Most Beers are available as 5 oz tasters, full pours, or Flight of 5 House draft beers for $12.00. Growler and half growlers available to go. All have a full full bar Food menu focused on BBQ, I had a mac and cheese that was solid. All beers I had were clean and tasty. Service prompt and friendly. Was a bit disappointed they didn’t have at least one rauch or smoke beer.

70 = **½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

Summit Pizza (Restaurant)

“Visited for lunch on a Tuesday. Weekday has pizza buffet, so I chose that along with an Odell 25th Anniversary. 20 taps at this location, and maybe half the number of bottles of the original. Tap selection was well selected, and had a lot of great beers, though nothing terribly hard to find. Offer a 4 beer taster, which is a good option. I still prefer the original in Waldo, though if you are in Lee’s Summit this is a great option.

“Visited lunch time on a Tuesday. Wine and Liquor is to the side, though connected to the grocery store. Easy to find on 291 just North of 50. Beer is along the right wall, and it is a truly impressive collection. Everything is kept cold, and the import selection in particular was as good as any currently in the KC area. Single selection was limited, so may not be the perfect choice for out of towners, but certainly a place for locals to frequent. Between this place and nearby Gomers Lee’s Summit you should be able to find plenty of great beers.

82 = ★★★½ (Solid place, near the top of the list for locals and visitors)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Visited on a Tuesday right before lunch. Located right off 291, easy to find, in a strip mall. Layout is standard smaller liquor store, wine and booze up front and in the middle, beer in the coolers in back. Selection was smaller, though well chosen. One advantage is almost all beers are available via mixed pack / single (ask on details, Missouri has quirky laws around this). Help was friendly, mentioned they have tastings from time to time. Good store to hit if you are in the area.

70 = ★★½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Been to this place once in the whole time I lived in Lawrence. It was too far to get to b/c they did not have anything that the other good places in KC carried. The only difference is it may show up a bit faster or stick around a but longer. Worthwhile if you are near but just stick to the better KC places.“

“I met foppa78 here a couple of years back to conduct an IP trade and instantly became a fan. Great selection with a lot of cool imports. Pretty good prices and the beer selection hasn’t been picked over too strongly.“

“(Update 3-6-13 the selection and service has really gone downhill here for a couple of years. Still have some rare bottles, but not even close to what it once was.) The selection of beers here has greatly improved over the last year. Many hard to find bottles and great service to go along with it. If its available in the area and you don’t see it just ask. Best selection in the area of beers available in the state. Their beer guy is awesome will tell you what is new and fresh. Just tell him what you’re looking for.“

“Interesting store with an out of the way location. Visited because of the great reviews. Found a nice selection of Mikkeller and some different Belgian selections. Did find a bottle of Stille Nacht! Otherwise the selection was limited. Staff was friendly. Singles were very limited. If you are driving by stop in.“

“Visited for the first time last night, I don’t get over to this part of town at all, really. I have to admit, for a place that is currently the most highly place in the entire state of MO, I was a little disappointed. Selection is certainly not bad, but pales in comparison to Lukas MO, or (maybe unfairly) the combination of Royal and Gomer’s South (those are the places I typically hit on the MO side when I want to make a beer run.) Service was kind of non-existent, although they did help me out to the car with my purchase, which was nice. If you’re in the area, definitely worth a stop. The make your own sixer selection was the smallest I’ve seen anywhere, ever. Some of the single bottles were extremely old, as one might expect. Prices were a bit on the high side, which is another turn-off for me. All in all, if you are just visiting KC, odds are you’re not staying anywhere near this part of town, and I don’t think it’s worth a huge trip out of your way. As this is a good 30 mins from my house, one way, I probably won’t be visiting again.“

“On RateBeer, this is the top-rated beer store in the state of Missouri - and upon visiting it during an epic road trip (Atlanta, GA to Reno, NV for a national convention) I now understand how it got such a high rating. The man I spoke with about finding Missouri beers was very friendly and helpful. Their selection may not be the best in the country, but I saw lots of beers that I didn’t even know existed. I could have stayed their all day, but I made myself grab just a dozen good ones - only so much room in my Ford Focus. If you are ever in the vicinity of Kansas City, this is a must!“

“Standard atmosphere for a liquor store, but a very nice selection of beers and much closer to home for me. The build your own 6 pack is pathetic, but that’s not what I come here for, it’s the great selection, even if it is a little pricey. They do, however, have decent sales of select breweries, so you can always find something affordable as well.“

“While Gomer’s Lee’s Summit doesn’t carry a lot of the "bigger" names that you can find in other stores, they do a fine job keeping their small(er) store in stock with all kinds of unique beers that you just can’t find anywhere else. They have a decent selection of 6 packs, but it’s their 3 coolers of bombers where they really shine. The only drawback is that there isn’t really a mix six option, but overall it’s a solid store, albeit a bit out of the way.“

“First trip to Gomer’s, was impressed with their selection. Some of their items were a little higher in price than other stores, but overall it was great to see some hard to find brews. Will visit again when in town, nice job.“

“The absolute best beer store I have been in to date. The only way it could be better is if you could break all the six packs, but they do have a limited selection of mix 6. I would have easily spent 500 dollars if I had it. The staff was friendly and even let me log in to Ratebeer on their computer so I could buy the best beers in KC, thanks again for that. I am still in awe of the selection they had even though it looked medium small initially, they have a lot of hard to find imports and an abundance of Bell’s, Founder’s and Schlafly and Boulevard of course..... Came back again on a cross country drive. Great selection again, my only complaint is that the single 12oz section is pretty small. I would have easily bought twice as much if I could have broken sixers into singles.“

“Sure Lucas is huge and impressive but Gomers in Lees Summit is the place to go. They have a very large selection with some nice hard to find beers. They do a great job of bringing in the new stuff and all of the seasonals. The build your own 6 pack is handy and the new selection of single bottles is very nice so that you don’t have to purchase some of the expensive 6 packs to try a new beer. The beer staff is quite knowledgeable and can help you with anything you need. Free beer tastings every Thursday night are great. My only complaint is that I think they are a little higher in price than their competition and even higher than other Gomers locations. I wouldn’t let that stop you from going to the best place in KC to buy beer though.“

“Knowledgeable, dedicated staff go out of their way to find the best beer selection in Kansas City. However, the customers of this store do as much for the beer selection as the staff. Thursday night, beer tasting night from 5 to 8 draws in some of the most dedicated craft beer drinkers and home brewers in the area. Many times customers will bring in either home brews or brews otherwise not able in Missouri that both helps to excite the general beer crowd and challenge the staff and distributors to keep bringing in beer from across the states. Please, join our community on Thursdays and help to enrich the Gomers Beer Experience.“

“This place keeps getting better. Best beer store in the KC area. Great selection of domestic and import craft beers (of all styles) with some hard to find stuff that i’m not going to name so i have longer to get it for myself. Beer manager is very knowledgeable and keeps on top of the latest releases. He’s also doing all he can to get everything that makes it to St. Louis across the state to KC. Competitive prices and an add’l 5% off if you get a Gomer’s card. Yes, it’s worth the drive to Lee’s Summit! My commute takes me near most of the major beer stores in the area but i’ve basically stopped shopping elsewhere. There’s enough here to keep me busy. Selection continues to grow so i had to re-rate to take this into account.“

“Others have said this, but I always thought Lukas was the place to go...until I came here. It is rather cozy, but they have a vast amount of hard to find beer. Talked with the beer manager quickly and he definitely knows what he’s doing and is very passionate about it. Very friendly, knowledgable staff that won’t hassle you while you roam. Lukas may have more in quantity (not by much, actually), but this Gomer’s has hands down the better quality beer. Not the best pick your own 6 pack selection, but it seems as if they are willing to work with you and take a few bottles out of the coolers to make things work. Free beer and wine tastings on Th/F too!“

“I once said that Lukas was the place to go in KC for a rare beer. I’m changing my tune on that now that I’ve been to Gomer’s in Lee’s Summit. Between the de Struise, Olfabrikken, tons of Mikkeller, and other sneaky imports, Gomer’s is right up there with Lukas and has a much more cozy atmosphere. I also had a chance to chat for ten minutes with the beer manager who really knows his stuff. Sounds like they’re working hard to get a deal with a big-time distributor to pull in even more great hard-to-find brews! This Gomer’s may not have the widest selection of beer in town, but they surely have the highest-quality one!“

“I had been meaning to visit this place for the past three years, but finally had a chance after a breakfast meeting today. I had heard this was a good bottle shop, but I was truly amazed at the beers they had in stock. By far the widest Mikkeller selection in town, as well as a bunch of other beers I have only seen here. The way the beer is arranged is a table of feature beers front in center, a smallish mix a six next to that, and a bunch of coolers (probably 5-6 devoted to craft) behind that. Also, in the corner is a very good selection of import beers. Again, I saw several beers here I have not seen elsewhere in KC. The beer manager was not in when I was there, but the GM was, and she was very friendly and helpful. I definitely need to put this place in my general rotation. Really the only disadvantage it has for me is the limited mix a six selection, and the distance from my house. The only knock I have against the place is that the Adnams SSB was 5 years past its best before date. Granted, I should have noticed before I got home, but that’s pretty old to have on the shelf.

82 = ★★★½ (Solid place, near the top of the list for locals and visitors)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“This is, by far the best liquor store in the East Kansas City area. Excellent selection of import beers. The beer manager, Aaron, is very knowledgeable about his inventory. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. They are interested in educating their customers. Beer tasting every Thursday night! Wouldn’t consider buying my beer anywhere else.“

“This is pretty much the only horse in the race on this side of town. There is no other liquor store, in Lee’s Summit, even remotely close to touching Gomer’s. Since I’ve started working out here, it’s become my go-to bottle shop. Aaron, the beer manager, goes out of his way to let me know when something new is in and has let me break a $10 six-pack to use in an $8 mix-a-six so that I could get what I needed for a trade. Jane, the co-owner also works the counter sometimes and is a self professed beer snob, and she also has pulled sixers from the cooler to break for me as well. Lukas won’t do that. So, if Gomer’s carries it, I buy it from them. They have beer tastings every Thursday from 5-8 and wine tastings on Fridays, also from 5-8. The latter can get pretty crowded. Overall, if you live in the Lee’s Summit area, this should be your first stop when looking for craft beer.“
