Riverside Red X (Beer Store)
2401 WEST PLATTE ROAD
“A large store that does groceries, cigars and liquor but all in different store fronts. They also had a big fireworks tent as I stopped in on July first. Service was particularly beer oriented and the selection was extremely picked over, maybe driven by the holiday weekend. A surprising lack of local Missouri beers. Prices seemed ok. Overall not a great spot.“

“Was surprised by craft beer selection. More than I was expecting from what I assumed was mostly a grocery store. They had all the craft breweries you typically find in Missouri plus nice selection of imports and some smaller brewery selections that I haven’t seen elsewhere in the area. Lacked a build your own section and some singles they had were priced high, but bomber prices were good and plentiful. Seems like a place that you could find some gems now and then. Definitely going to include them on my next beer buying trip.“

“A bit out of the way, but there are some gems to be found, if you have patience. All spread out and unorganized, but if you are out that way, stop in.“

“Visited on the way home from the airport one night. This is a very odd store, overall, just a weird variety of products available for sale. The beer department itself was quite large, much larger than I was expecting. Much of this was macro, but they did have several coolers and shelves of micro, craft and import. You have to wander around a bit, as there really is no discernible organization. I didn’t see anyone working the area, so really a no-service sort of setup. All in all, I liked the place - it’s like being on a scavenger hunt. A place for locals to put in their rotation, and not a terrible choice for out of towners who are driving from the airport into downtown or the south side of the city.“

“Been here a few times now. Solid selection, but you are certainly not going to find much you can’t find in the other big KC stores. I like their prices. The layout takes a little while to browse as it is by brand and fairly spread out. A couple of times I went, I talked to an employee and she was knowledgeable about the products, especially the new releases. Also, this is a good place for all things tobacco, both for price and selection. Worth a visit if in the area but probably my second favorite place on the north side of KC after Gomers north.“

“Don’t let the mediocre score fool you, Red X is a wonderful store. Unfortunately, you get the feel of a grocery or hardware store...because you’re inside a grocery/liquor/hardware store! On the other hand, the sheer size of Red X offers a huge variety of liquors, with a separate aisle for each variation of spirit, and half a dozen aisles of beer. All of the usual suspects are here, but Red X carries a large number of imports (German, Belgian, Czech, Asian, you name it) as well as one of the best selections of Midwestern and Colorado brews.“
