“Visited here in early May '23 on a Saturday evening. Located in the heart of downtown Springfield, parking not a problem on weekends. Lots of brass, wood and glass, has that classic old time big city bar look to it. Large bar area, plenty of tables scattered about and an upstairs as well Have about a dozen of their own on tap, the three i had were solid and true to style. Full service menu, burgers, steaks, seafood, salads and such. The burger I had was solid. Friendly, attentive service, decent prices. Would visit often if I was a local.“

“Visited here in early May '23 on a Saturday afternoon. Large, spartan liguor store located in a commercial/industrial area on the outskirts of Springfield. Looks like it has seen its prime based on earlier reviews. Standard beer selection for the area with only a small cooler set aside for singles. Able to scrounge up a dozen I had not rated yet but had to throw in some flavored ciders. Single prices were very reasonable and the cashiers friendly.“

“Visited here on a Saturday afternoon in early May '23. There was a festival going on with food trucks and live bands and other activities so did not get the normal brewery experience. Cozy little taproom with lots of outdoor seating in addition to the bar and tables inside, Have a dozen or more of their own on tap, all their favorites you can find in cans or in tap in surrounding states plus a few one-offs. All were top notch which I have found them to be elsewhere. Plenty of swag in the gift shop, as well as bombers and four-paks to go. Friendly servers. Prices decent.“

“Stopped in on a Wednesday evening. Very cool space, former Fire Station. Big indoor seating area, large outdoor patio, smaller parking lot. No food, they have food trucks on a regular basis, or you can order from the sports bar next door. Staff was very friendly, and gave a couple of extra tasters while we were there. Several of their beers on tap, all we good. Well worth a stop if in the area.“

“Large area including a very large bar area. Nice selection of beers (note to out-of-town tickers - stop by the cooler to the right of the front door as you come in - many of their regular beers are there in cans and are cheaper than a 4 ounce sample. Wish I would have seen it before I ordered). Parking is a bit tight in the area though.“

“A newer brewery in downtown Springfield right next door to the Shrine Mosque. The brewery is owned by sisters and the staff is all female. Small interior but there is a nice outdoor patio with picnic tables and a small stage. There was a food truck parked outside slinging tacos. About 10 beers on tap and nothing seems out of left field, mostly your standards, IPA, stout and lager. Only had one beer here since we were moving around. Decent place, especially when the sun finally came out and warmed things up. When I used to live in Springfield another lifetime ago the downtown area was just a bunch of abandoned old buildings. Now it's hopping with a nice vibe of restaurants and at least 4 breweries within walking distance.“

“Stopped in on a Thursday evening, nice indoor and outdoor seating areas. There are self serve taps at a couple of tables, and a separate one for the rest of the bar area. Several beers on tap, also a couple of coolers full of non tapped beers. Food was really good, along with the service. Well worth the stop.“

“Stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Nice big place, horseshoe style bar, big patio area. About 10 beers on tap from them, plus several guest taps. Good lunch crowd, and a decent menu, something for everyone. Had a flight of their beers, and a few guest tap beers. Their beers were nothing special, guest taps were good. Decent place, easy access, worth a stop if in the area.“

“Stopped in on a Friday early afternoon. It is a home brew store with several of their beers on tap. We had a few tasters and they were all decent. Both beertenders were very friendly and helpful with our taster selections. There was also a brew going on, so we watched as the boil and adding ingredients were taking place. No outdoor seating, about 10 to 12 seats inside, so on a busy day, may be tough to find a place to sit. Near Bass Pro, so if in the area, give them a try.“

“Stopped in early on a Friday afternoon. Great space, both indoor and outdoor. Plenty of seating in both areas. The garage doors really give that open feeling. We had a couple of flights, plenty of their beer on tap and a to-go fridge with plenty of beer also. The brewing area was in the back, you kind of walk towards it near the restrooms. The beertender was very helpful with selecting our flights. Definitely worth the stop.“

Macadoodles (Beer Store)

“I've been loyal to Brown Derby for awhile, and I hadn't been aware of this location of Macadoodles in Springfield until recently (there's another Mac in the northern part of the city). Found out this is a pretty good spot that carries some beers BD doesn't. The mixed-sixer aisle is my favorite; pretty wide variety there, including lots of Prairie Artisan, sours, and New England hazy IPAs. Some of those styles aren't my thing, but there's a lot for those who like them. There's also enough of other stuff I don't see much of to keep it interesting. The stock of cold beers is more typical stuff you'll find at the other beer places. Atmosphere is like other Macadoodles I've been to. I'll come here again for mixed sixers.“

“Spent time this early afternoon sampling beers here after being impressed with their showing at the September 2019 Brew at the Zoo in Springfield, MO. They have a little pub you can find in the busy Galloway Village area of Springfield, MO, close to the new Rock Restaurant. No food here other than some free candy samples, but you can bring your own, and even bring your pets to some of the wooded bench areas. There's also the bar area, which is where I sat. Enjoyed all I've sampled at this microbrewery -- they are great at capturing the subtler, more detailed flavoring of lighter beer styles while avoiding all the off-esters that more amateur microbreweries here are prone to having. Ended up buying a crowler of their Rock lager. I hope they make it among the strong competition among recent local microbreweries in Springfield.“

“Surprised this has not been added or rated to the Springfield section yet! This is a great spot for beer geeks with a massive selection (see links for current availability). Decent selection of food, too, although the slider I had months ago is no longer served when I looked at the online menu today. Ambiance ok; there are some pinball games and such to enjoy to liven things up. A must-visit for beer geeks in Springfield.“

Roots Coffee Bar (Restaurant)
1645 W REPUBLIC RD STE G
“New establishment in Springfield, MO as of July 2018. Mix of a bar and breakfast-styled restaurant; family-friendly. Spouse and I went here as it sounded promising: he likes coffee and donuts, and I was curious about the beers. They also serve mixed drinks, sandwiches, and traditional breakfast foods. Overall, we found it rather underwhelming: it seems like they are trying to cater to almost every demographic without specializing in anything. Drinks on tap included Yeti, Modelo Especial, a couple of Ace ciders, Sweetwater 420 Extra Pale Ale, and allegedly "Founders Breakfast Start [sic]" according to their list, but I didn't see an actual tap for Founders Breakfast STOUT. Floor was dirty and in need of sweeping. Servers accidentally tried to give us two items that were actually other people's orders. To their credit, when they ran out of Ace Pineapple Cider, they gave me a free sample of what was left, and then replaced my order with a Sweetwater ale. Husband did like one of their lattes. He said he'd been here before by himself; he had donuts that time, and found them merely mediocre. I've rated the food N/A because I didn't try any during our visit. If this place makes it, which will be tough given the competition in Springfield, I'm guessing it will be on their food or mixed drinks, because the beer selection is not impressive, and the decor/cleanliness of the place could use a lot of improvement.“

“Really nice little spot with big open garage doors that allow patrons to move from inside to outside. During my summer visit they had cornhole and similar kinds of games, families, a food truck parked, and even pets hanging out. It was lovely!“

“Decent place to get a variety of beer, wine, and spirits. You can get a few singles and mix your own six-packs, as well as get standard six-packs. They now carry Dogfish Head and Ballast Point regularly. Lots of locals to choose from, including Mother's, along with standard macros, and stuff from the more top-of-the-line breweries, like Firestone, Sierra Nevada, Bell's, Founders, and the like. Obviously not as diverse as Macadoodles, or especially the majestic Brown Derby International Wine Center, but it's perhaps the third best place to look for a variety of beer in Springfield, MO.“

“Place Rating #700. Visited for dinner on a Wednesday evening. Cool old building in the center of busy downtown Springfield. SBC has a parking lot, though looks like it would fill up quickly. I ended up parking on the street relatively close by. Two level restaurant that had a private party upstairs when I visited, and a big oval bar along with a bunch of restaurant seating on the main level. The brewery kit is visible through glass walls on the back end of the building. 6 house beers on; 2 year rounders, along with 4 seasonals and specials. Additionally, six pack bottles and 750s and 32 oz crowlers were available to go. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. I had the Chicken Florentine pizza which was good. Good spot, certainly seemed to be hugely popular with the local crowd.

70 = ★★½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Visited early evening on a Wednesday. The tasting room is a bit hard to locate at first, it is around the back of the building - just walk past the chain link fence from the parking lot and should be easy to find. Outside, there is a large grassy area with some picnic tables scattered about. Inside, this is very much a bare bones tasting room tacked onto the end of a production brewery. Nothing wrong with that, actually makes it a pretty relaxed vibe. Beer selection is pretty crazy, featuring three types of beers: Regulars (4), Seasonals (4) and Mother’s others (8). 16 beers is pretty crazy, and the range of selections was fantastic. Website (www.mothersbrewing.com/brewery/tasting-room/) was up to date, which I always appreciate. For the regular and seasonals they do half pint and pint. Service was friendly, and very knowledgeable. Beer is available to go with a selection of 6 packs, 4 packs and bombers. Growlers also offered. Top notch, loved my visit and wish I would have had more time (and a driver).

88 = ★★★★ (best in area, a must for locals and visitors)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Great building in downtown Springfield. Think being a restaurant is their thing. Six beers on tap. Only had time for a pint. Bought a bottle of their BA Imperial Stout to go. Since I was driving I had the low alcohol wheat beer. Food looked good, but kind of pricey. Service was excellent. Good experience overall.“

“Stopped in during a drive through MO on a Friday and was very, very blown away. Not only does this place carry just about every beer made in the South and Southwest, they also have a really good quality restaurant and wine bar inside (and some awesome wines). Yes, most of the beer is sitting on the shelves, but with this massive of a selection, that’s just how it goes. As said, they do have ALOT of cooler space as well. Not going to find anything rare here, but they have a lot of mid-tier stuff on the rarity scale. Looks like the Perennial selection was pretty well picked over, but they still had 6-7 different beers from Perennial. Saw a bunch of different Bells, including Expedition and Oracle. Anyways, I was quite impressed and I spent 3 years with Julio’s as my local, so I feel like I have a decent perspective. I also was asked about 4 times if I needed help, so no complaints there.“

“A very respectable brewpub in a town that didn’t seem to be very beer friendly when it was established. I have to give them credit for that. I have had some awesome beers from this place and some just so so ones. The brewpub is very nice-open space with a rustic modern look to it. Service is fantastic-lots of free samples and the food is solid for pub grub. I will stop here again when the time comes.“

“Stopped in on a Saturday evening, a 3 piece band was playing on the patio, really nice evening to sit outside and enjoy a brew or two. The tasting was room was a nice size, probably 20 - 25 seats. They had another room in back for parties, or if the tasting room and patio fill up. Great lineup of beers on tap, even a couple of barrel aged beers. “Stopped in Springfield to visit Mothers to get MILF on tap, but they were closed. So, stopped by the Brown Derby (the main location). And they had MILF on tap, along with few other really great beers (a Prairie that I had not yet had - and I’m from NW Arkansas). They had a great selection of beers, both local and international. A limited pick six, though many bottles were pricy - 6-7 a piece. But I picked up some really good things that aren’t available in AR. And they have a large selection of cheeses and deli meats and a small eating area. I was wonderfully surprised and impressed with this place. Well worth a visit. Though, I needed help finding something and an employee just stood there chatting with a friend - I think the employee was their beer guy. Sort of disappointing, but overall a good experience. Very pricy, though.“

“Brewery now open to the public as of September 2014. I visited over Thanksgiving weekend. Quaint little place. Most beers on tap. Some souvenirs in back of the bar area. Open tables outside of the building as well for nice weather days. They have considerable competition from Mother’s, but I wish them well. They have their own style. Excel with malty pilsners and lagers. Even their pale ales are malt forward.“

“Their location in Joplin seems a little better. But this one is a big beer/wine/liquor store. Pretty decent selection of beer. “The brewpub’s pretty handsome on the outside. It’s located in a beautifully refurbished brick building from the early 20th century. Inside, things are a bit more mundane and sterile, set out like a Rock Bottom or Capital Ale House. The large floor plan’s set up with restaurant service in mind. I sat at the bar and tucked into the house beers. 6 of their own beers were on tap. No guests. SBC’s beers were pretty boring, but without any particular faults. They basically make craft with training wheels, not that there’s anything wrong with that. The edgiest thing they had was a seasonal session IPA, and it turned out to be maybe the worst thing they had available. Bottles of their BA stout were for sale too, but at the high price point of $19, I wasn’t willing to take a punt on it.“

“A pretty big place located along a very busy stretch of commercial units and strip malls on the outskirts of Springfield. There were maybe 400 unique beers available, and it took me a good while to peruse everything. Most stuff’s sitting out on shelves, but it seems like they were making an effort to keep the hoppy beers in the bank of coolers they have. Noted and appreciated. Not much stuff local to MO was available. The most interesting stuff by far came from overseas. Plenty of random things from Spain, Italy, and Belgium were available. No less than 3 different Xyauyu variants were on sale at decent prices, which just seems strange. Springfield’s a depressed rural outpost along I-44 without much of a beer scene, how long are those Xyauyu’s going to sit on the shelf before they’re purchased? Anyway, this place is worth a visit.“

“When driving to the brewery, I surely thought I was lost when I started to enter a residential area, but, much to my surprise, Mother’s definitely was in a really quiet location. On top of that, the brewery being in a former bakery made the whole place very comfortable and homey, which was only intensified by the yard that the tasting room overlooked. Speaking of the tasting room, this is where the magic happens, for there are some beers here that you can’t get anywhere else alongside the great variety of brews they have available. Do you want a wheat beer followed by a bourbon barrel aged stout? They’ve got you covered. Tours are also offered, and I’m going to have to take advantage of this fact the next time I visit this up-and-coming brewery.“
