90 /100 MILLBURN VILLAGE MALL - 2933 VAUXHALL ROAD
“As others have said...hard to find...even when you’re in the strip mall it’s part of...as it’s around back which requires driving down a blind one lane alley hoping no one’s coming the other way...lol! You must go on a tour unless just buying some bottles at the front counter...which makes sense because they want to have the chance to introduce people to something most are not familiar with...namely mead...and all it’s possible variations in flavor. I was lucky...I called about 3:30PM on a Saturday afternoon and living nearby got there by 4PM. I had to wait about 20 mins till the last tour group finished...but then I effectively got a private tour...which was very cool. I then tried about 5-6 styles and bought 3 bottles. This mead isn’t inexpensive...especially if you are not yet familiar with the product...they are 375ml bottles (1/2 of a wine bottle) for about $18-20 each. Having said that...the meads they make are spectacular...and well worth the time to learn abut them and do a tasting. I particularly liked and purchased...one that was mixed with white grapes (called "Sweet Affair Hers"), one with espresso flavor (called "All Night Long"), and a 3rd that had an apple pie flavor (called "Nice as Pie"). My understanding is that these will keep well unopened...and even after opening...probably longer than opened wine or beer. If you are curious...check it out...you might be surprised at how good mead is...especially Melovino’s.“

“First off, make sure you read the directions on the website, finding this place in the back of the strip mall ain’t easy, but once you drive around the back you will find it.

We had a really excellent time on our visit here. Sergio gives an excellent tour and tasting. Not just your standard information, but he’d happily talk mead for hours if you let him. He even kept the bee puns to a minimum, which is impressive since this place has been getting a lot of buzz lately (sorry - couldn’t resist). Tour / tasting is slightly over priced, but they had it on Living Social for 2 for $18, which is a very good deal. I thought all the meads I tried here were good to great. By far the best meadery in NJ (and that would probably be true even if NJ had more than one meadery).“

“Very well hidden, it is in the back alley of the mall. Nice place quite stylish and large. Tastings only available on tours on Saturdays, so call head if you want to do more than pick up bottles. Staff was nice but not too enthusiastic or helpful when it came to trying or talking about product. The few I had were pretty good and decently priced. Except for the tasting a solid place.“

“NJ’s first meadery. He actually had to petition the government because apparently NJ didn’t know what mead was. This place is also going to put NJ on the map for mead. Initial offerings are mostly standard fare, but already far above most similar offerings from other meaderies. He’s starting to barrel age and has a ghost pepper mead in the works. Tour was $25 but included a free tasting glass and five samples. There was also free food - cheese and cold cuts. Bottle prices are what you’d expect for mead with discounts if you buy multiple bottles. Definitely check this place out in a few weeks when they have a few of their more specialty meads available. Their first chipoltle mead - Dulce Chipotle should be available in a couple weeks.“
