| 80 /100 The Beer Store (Monticello, NY) (Beer Store) 77 PLEASANT ST “This place has certainly grown from what it was many years ago. It's always had a great selection. A selection of macros and craft in coolers both packaged and as singles. Growler fills and all of the non refrigerated stuff is on shelves all organized by brewer. Imports are separate and there's another shelf for the pricey hard to find stuff. All in all prices don't seem to be higher or lower. Clean, with a large selection and well organized. Worth the stop.
Usually they don't wander asking if you need help, so you might have to get somebody if you can't find exactly what you want. I asked about a beer a long time ago and they told me they didn't drink beer (Hindu) "It's bad for the religion" was the answer they gave, so I don't ask there anymore as I can always find something new that looks good or one of many old tried and true winners.“ |

The Selection was decent enough, especially for the rustic area. Not a lot I the way of super locals, like Horseheads, or Middle Ages, or that stuff, which I found disappointing. But decent enough that if you find yourself up here, it’s a place you can stock up on some decent beer. The value - you’re paying about what you pay in the city. The beers are sitting on the shelves a while too. Check the dates. Worthwhile if you’re in this part of the world.“ |

Always seems to have Captain Lawrence, Ithaca, Flying Dog, Ommegang, Long Trail, Magic Hat, Wolavers, Victory, Lagunitas, Anchor, Sam Adams, Southern Tier, Rogue, Brooklyn, Avery, Oscar Blues, Sixpoint, Unibrou and other Imports and recently saw some Cigar City. Though some things do sit on the shelf for a while so you may need to check dates. There just isn’t enough people around here yet to purchase everything fast enough. Owners will get something if you ask that they don’t have.“ |
