“Was worth us going out of way. Town at crossroads of main highways. Smaller bar and restaurant with some great taps from region on, such as Equilibrium and Hudson Valley, very fresh. Music not too loud. Parking! 5 ounce pours!“

“Here is a nano brewery located just off the Walkill Valley Rail Trail. It is in a plain industrial building in a little rural area. There is some comfortable seating and picnic tables set up outside. The server was very helpful and even offered to can something for me, even tho they don't advertise crowlers. The place is only open for around 8 hours a week, but they clearly have some fans. I have known about this place for a while. The area has seen several new breweries open up in the past year, so I figured I better get busy and visit - and I'm glad I did.“

“An attractive taproom with friendly service in downtown New Paltz, stocked entirely with Arrowood Farms products. There are about 8 of their beers on tap, and you can also pick up some of the farm's meat products to bring home. This place has a lot of potential.“

“Barn like large open structure in an industrial area with 4 beers on tap. No food available at the time I visited. Looks like a very small operation in a very large space.“

“In the door as the only patron at around 5 on a Friday in early June 2017. Nicely renovated space that seems like it must have been and old restaurant or something at one point. Or a gift shop. Not sure. But they’ve cleaned up the taproom and adjoining room for hanging out. Six beers on tap, and a flight of all of them ran me $13. Service is friendly, and you can tell they’re really trying hard to be likeable and be liked. A few more people showed up while I was there, and they seemed like regulars. There’s a small food menu, which is all quick service stuff that the bartender can do. Was also given a complimentary bowl of slightly stale popcorn. They’re aiming for all German styles, but it feels like they’re falling quite short. Of the six beers I had two were good, two mediocre and forgettable, and two nearly undrinkable. Most of the beers are flabby. I feel bad because you can tell there’s passion here and you genuinely want them to succeed, but it feels as if it’s a couple of homebrew guys whose drunken friends kept telling them their beer was amazing and they should sink everything they had into this, but no one else really ever checked their stuff. I will say that I have had a couple of really solid beers from them a few times at festivals, and they must be capable of getting stuff right, but 2 out of 6 is not a rate I’d be happy with. If you’re driving past this I’m still not sure if it’s really worth the stop. “

“Middle of May 2016. In a small industrial plaza, in a nice open garage space. The space feels very ample and large, the 12 bar seats would fit 20+ people in most other places, very roomy. There’s a few tables around as well. Four beers on tap when I went, and as they’d apparently had a busy weekend, only two were their own. They had two guest beers, with one from Pull across town, and one from Ommegang. Beers are available in 12 or 5 ounces, or all four as 2 ounce pours. Prices are very good. There’s cheese and charcuterie plates for food, with what looks like homemade pickles and relishes. Brew system is in here as well, visible from the serving space. Small system, looks like a really nice homebrew system being used on a commercial scale. I’d guess smaller than a 3bbl system, so they must be churning out batches on the regular to keep up with demand. Fortunately with the layout, it looks like they’ve got the space to put in a bigger system at some point (probably sooner than they had envisioned). They’ve only been open in this space for a few months, but it seems like they’re set up for future success and I’ll certainly be visiting regularly. Worth a stop if they’re open if you’re nearby With the current small tap system even if you just wanted to tick and go, with just four beers and 2oz each, that’s a quick thing to do. “

“Come in the middle of May 2016. Located in a barn on Bradley Farm. In terms of “farmhouse” brewing, Pull wins so far. Definitely a farm. Much farm, very farm. Eventually maybe everything in here will be a bit more streamlined, but when I went the tap room was in the middle of an open barn, with lots of stuff about. There’s some tables and chairs outside that you could grab a pint and go sit at, but not overflowing with seating. But again, since it’s a farm, there’s plenty of space to be, just most of it is not furnished. Kurt, the brewer, was pouring the beers and filling growlers when I went. Beers here were very good, and solely on quality I’ll certainly be back. Hopefully one of the times I get back will feature the wood fired pizza truck they get from time to time for events. No sizes other than pint (or growlers) for sale, but they happily do samples of stuff. “

“Stopped by on a Saturday in July a day of climbing in the Gunks. Easily accessible location (they have live music there too), with decent food. Actually the food was great (Salmon sandwich was on point). When we got seated the hostess didn’t even know what a flight of beer was. Thankfully our server did, was pretty knowledgeable about the beer and very friendly. Shame the beer isn’t that good. The beer is all low ABV so good sessionable stuff in that regard but it wasn’t really great. But hey, $8 flight for 8 beers? Great deal there. Their summer lager it with blueberries (gimmicky as it sounds) was probably the best. So, tl;dr - nice space, good food, good service with live music and very cheap beer. But the beer isn’t all that good.“

“Nano farm brewery about 6 miles from New Paltz. Had only two of their house beers and two guests plus some bottles of the one. I was told they usually have more but had a busy night before. Good brews though.“

“Stopped in after hiking on cool November day. Touch cold at our table. Eclectic decor kinda divey, especially the bathroom. Food was average. They had 4 drafts of their own stuff a sour, gose, IPA, and something else. Also hill farmstead and a fees other nice beers so can’t ask for much more. Bottle list is big but I didn’t peruse. Certainly worth a stop if your in this town.“

“We stopped in during a recent visit to New Paltz while we were on vacation. The place has a nice ambiance with an ecclectic mix of old stained glass other curiosities mounted on the walls and ceiling. The place wasn’t too busy and we were seated promptly. Our server took our drink order and it took her 15 minutes to bring everything. My daughter’s cup of coffee I ended up getting up and getting it myself. Our luch order didn’t arrive to the table until over an hour after it was placed. Our server walked back and forth giving the impresssion she was busy, but she never had anything in her hands. All together there were five tables and perhaps four people at the bar; it wasn’t that busy. The food, once it arrived, was well prepared and tasty, but by then it was really way too late. I don’t know if the server was just lost or there were problems in the kitchen but regardless, the service was absolutely dreadful. I may stop in againat some point when I travel to Albany on business, but I assure you, it will be for a drink at the bar and NOT to sit and eat.“

“Best bar in town. Best beer selection for miles and miles. If you are in town, this is the place to visit. Bartenders were quick to serve. The bar is opposite a handful of booths, and mostly woods. Quite a few offerings on tap, with one of there own brews, JiJi Bo IPA. This was the only place with a crowd of anything other than college age kids; not that the average age of the bar was older than 30ish.“

“College bar in a college town. Walk in to a wide open floor plan with a four post bar reminiscent of the bar from Cheers. The Bartender was fast and made sure we didn’t sit with an empty glass. Couple of random stand up video games. I imagine this place is packed with early 20 somethings on a Friday or Saturday night.“

“I can’t believe that the brewers work around so much in the way...stairs, tables, chairs...This is set up as more of a restaurant than a brewery...which, if you are here for the food is nice enough. Two floors, with a smaller second floor, and outdoor seating. If you are by on a nice day, sit outside...Right across the street from the Wallkill. The building is made to feel almost lodgelike with plenty of outdoorsy pine around. Even the tap handles are wood..birch to be exact. One wall was entirely made up of glass letting in plenty of natural light. So, sitting outside on a spring evening, we were promptly seated and served our beers. The service was pleasant and courteous, although I asked no questions of the beers. Food was served quickly and was above average both in selection and quality for a brewpub; nothing crazy special, but good eats. They had about seven beers available, theirs and one guest beer, which I couldn’t seem to find any information on. I rated all of the beers in the mid 70’s, with my favorite being their Three Pines IPA. The beers are a bit overpriced for a brewpub, but how else do you expect them to make money? Overall, I would stop by if I was passing by, but won’t need to make a special trip.“

“Visited: 11-29-11 A: Nice looking building, rustic feel, large bar that holds about 25 people with seating all around, nice outdoor patio. Q: The beers were average or slightly above but no consistancy amongst them. S: Sub Par at best, I went in on a monday night to watch football, there were 2 bartenders and no more than 12-14 patrons. Not once but twice, I sat with an empty glass longer than 10 minutes (literally). I dont expect them to wait on me hand and foot but an empty glass should warrant a response after a couple of minute. Also, a group next to me wanted to order food at 920pm (before halftime of football game) and we told friers and grill were turned off already...even though kitchen was open until 10pm. Sucked for them. S: They had 6 taps going upon arrival and a guest cider. Their beers were a Altbier, Light Lager, Pumpkin Ale, Scotch Ale, IPA, and Porter. Their Stout had kicked earlier that day. F: I ordered their Brewmasters Burger and it was decent, served with french fries. Price: 6 dollar pints is higher than any other microbrewery that I have been to in the area...the median price in area was about 4.50 to 5 bucks. Overall, a really nice place to be at but I would try Hyde Park Brewing over Keegan and Gilded Otter.“

“Great location...beautiful place...pretty good food. The beer varies though from average to occasionally very good. Add the music...often live...the outdoor seating...the views of the "gunks"...and the eclectic and very mixed outdoorsy crowd, and you have a mostly winning combination. Best to stop after a day of hiking.“

“A stone’s throw away from the very popular Gilded Otter brewpub, here’s Bacchus, an unpretentious relaxed pub. Medium size, probably sits around 100. A pretty large micro selection but nothing out of the ordinary. Over a dozen of taps and a lot of bottles. Usual suspects (Stone, Rogue, etc.) as well as a bunch of NY micros and some shitty stuff like Guiness. I had the Long Trail Coffee Stout on tap. They have food but I ate at Gilded Otter. Bacchus is more like the pub you go to enjoy a few pints and have fun while Gilded Otter is the pub that is more a restaurant. Depending on how you feel, both are valid choices.“

“Large beautiful pub, lots of wood, feels like a large ski shack type of place. Brewing equipment right in the middle of the main floor. Two levels inside that probably sits 200 and another 100 on the patio. Good time on the patio that almost make you feel like you’re a remote area. I three pints, a terrible hefe, an acceptable IPA and a very good oatmeal stout. So obviously I have mixed feelings about the beer there. Food was what I expect from this type of place, satisfying slightly above average pub fare. Worth a visit.“

“A pretty shitty looking store, from the outside looks like your typical rural beerstore that only sells macros. But inside there is decent selection. Disorganized and some past due-dates items, this place is obviously not run by knowledgeable people. Also I was there during a summer day and the heat inside was unbearable. So obviously many items must go bad pretty quickly during the summer. All in all, a pretty lame store with a half-decent selection.“

“Awesome location that’s right of a hiking trail and adjacent to a river. Very earthy/crunchy vibe. The flight of 8 beers was relatively cheap, I think only $8 or so. The food and service were both good. Most of the beers were solid, although the IPA was a bit of a disappointment. Looking at the ratings though it looks like I just got a bad batch.“

“Located on the next to the Plattekill River just west of the center of new Paltz is on of the few brewpubs in the Hudson Valley. The Gilded Otter has a large resturant area with plenty of tables, a fairly sizeable bar, and a nice patio for good weather. On draft are usually around 8 beers, all of which they brew on premise. Most beers are tasty and close to their respective style. Food is usual pub food well executed. Atmosphere is a nice mix, nothing roudy or out of hand. I think the food is a bit expensive but New Paltz is a bit of a tourist area during the nicer weather. “

“A relaxed rathskeller / restaurant / pool hall in downtown New Paltz. It is the best bar I have tried yet in the area. Comfortable and spacious interior. The service is friendly, but if you have a large party they refuse to do separate checks and will put on a service charge, a common practice that I have never liked much. The good menu includes dinner plates, sandwiches, burgers, burritos, salads, chips, and the like. A recent visit shows that they have upped their food game, with springy rolls and delicious fresh fries. There are about a dozen taps with a few interesting selections, and a very big list of bottles (some of which are out of stock). There is also an in-house nano brewery that usually has a couple of items on the draft list. Unfortunately draft beer prices jumped a little this year. The under ten bucks pint could be an endangered species in southern NY State before long. This is definitely an enjoyable place to hang out for a bit, and before you do, check out some of the area’s first rate hiking, cycling, and rock climbing opportunities.“

“I decided to stop in for a late lunch on my way home from a business trip to Albany recently. I sat at the bar and was served promptly and enjoyed a pleasant conversation with my server. I had the Magherita pizza, which I enjoyed while watching the Yankee game. As an aside, its always a treat to watch afternoon baseball during a work day! The place is clean and attractive with all of the brewing equipment in plain sight. One thing I should mention is their growler refill price, which is $15. If you have lunch or dinner, they include the glass for free, but $15 for a refill is pretty steep. Overall, a pleasant and enjoyable experience.“

“nice bar. Bottle list is pretty extensive... nothing too rare but good representation from lots of breweries. We played pool and listened to a decent band. Cool place to hang out. My sister, who goes to SUNY New Paltz says its a good place to hang out because it’s not overcrowded by college kids (looking for cheaper beer). “Lovingly dubbed the "Gilded Flotter" by generations of rock climbers. This place is often chosen by climbers for much-needed nourishment after a day at the cliffs. I think the food is pretty good, although anything tastes great when you’re starving and dehydrated. The beers, although decent, aren’t anything to write home about. More or less a standard brewpub/restaurant, but it’s a nice choice if you’re in town.“

“Whoopee and hooray for the New Paltz and surrounding area! A home-brew store of magnanimous proportions has arrived and is here to stay. This store started out as a wine juice importer and has easily grown into a supply house that is well stocked and fairly priced. I met Jerry on a Monday when my truck was in the shop. I filled up the Wife’s old SUV with two wine kits and some harder to find beer brewing ingredients. A spacious old warehouse makes one feel right at home. No more excuse me pardon me game at the home-brew store for me. Simple to get to off the thruway and strategically placed near the Wife’s office.“

“Among the couple of brewpubs concentrated in the area (More or less halfway between Albany and NYC), Gilded Otter is not my top choice, but not my last either. No amazing brewpub stand out, but I prefer Skytop for its view and interesting lagers. Gilded Otter may be second also for its setup, just by the river with a terrace that provides an enjoyable vacations feeling as you watch across the stream over large fields that lead into the Adirondack. The food is satisfying as far as brewpubs go, my jambalaya was replenishing and aptly spiced. Unfortunately, the beers (8-10 of them) are not of the highest quality. The basic beers are exactly that, basic and sometimes lacking in cleanliness. Not particularly audacious, the seasonals (a scotch ale for instance) remain mostly thin and also not always very polished. Basically, not a place I’d make big detours to get to, but on the road, it’s not a stop one would regret for the general experience.“

“A good-sized brewpub with a large dining area. It is obviously a popular spot - the parking lot and the room and patio were full at 6:00 on a Saturday. Large brew kettles were right out in the open, and sunlight poured thru the big windows. My friends enjoyed their quesadillas and pulled pork sandwiches. I came for the beer, and was happy to see that for a reasonable price you could get a sampling of all 8 of their current offerings, served in 3 ounce glasses on a wooden tray. The menu gives an overview of how their brewing operation works. The beer tho was pretty good, but not out of the ordinary. I found most of the offerings had a nice aroma and were perfectly drinkable, but they were a little thin too, and seemed aimed more toward a mainstream crowd than beer geeks. It is still worth a visit.“

“Nice ambiance with an old feel to it. Somewhat rustic with lots of wood exposure. Extensive bottle list with a pretty standard selection. Nothing out of this world, or rare. Didn’t notice any vintage stuff either. The tap selection is quite limited as well. The beer prices are OK, but the food is somewhat overpriced, although tasty. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with guacamole and sweet potato fries that were delicious. I’d say as a real beer geek you should visit the Gilded Otter brewpub right down the block for some brewpub ticks. Nothing out of the ordinary national market here.“

“New Paltz’s famed brewpub, you walk in and dine in a very open room in full site of the brewing operation. The beers are pretty good but the food is outstanding. On the negative the service is really hit or miss, either you get an excellent waitress or a bad one, there’s no real middle ground. Value is decent though a bit pricy if you’re a student, other than that it’s a great place to have a meal and a beer“

“I believe the main reason my rating is higher than most is "value". The pricing was very reasonable, however is comparative... the food and drinks here compared to NYC are in a totally different price class. “Any place sporting a list of 400+ beers available is bound to have something good, and here Bacchus does not disappoint. I think the let down comes in the depth of good beers, which I find to be a little lacking. A quick perusal of their bottle list will come up with a large amount of well known brewers... often with 2-3 of their most bland and generic beers being offered. They do have good stuff there though, with a nice selection of Belgians, international stuff, and American. Prices are a bit steep... fresh bomber of Nugget Nectar - $16. Hitachino XH 12oz - 14. The taps are where you’ll get a better value, but there are only 4 rotating ’mystery’ taps, and they can be hit or miss (though some of the hits are quite good). Food is quite solid though.“

In terms of selection, it’s probably the best for a while in NP, but with Half-Time a 20-30 minute car ride away, better can be found. “The interior is wonderful. Big open spaces and wood everywhere. Warm and inviting without being cluttered. Ample parking so that even when you walk in to a packed house and are looking at a wait to get a table, you didn’t have to wait for a parking spot. They offer a beer sampler for those who haven’t been before, and even for those who have, as they offer a larger selection of brews, and changing seasonal brews than some other brew pubs. Going with someone who doesn’t do the beer thing very much, it was nice to find that they also have 22 oz bottles of hard cider available (though personally, I’d love to see it on tap). The menu does contain the typical brewpub menu, but it also stretches a bit beyond that offering such oddities as a vegan tofu stuffed ravioli, jambalaya, pad thai, a trout mousse, and a meatloaf sandwich. Their pizzas are fairly solid and utilize spent grain from the brewing process which is a nice thematic addition. Service is generally pretty good, though I have had one meal there that the service was totally lacking, and a party member was served fried mozzarella that was still frozen inside, but that was a few years back, and I haven’t had bad service since then.“

“Came here when visiting friends in Newburgh. Place reminds me of a ski-lodge in Colorado. Some light colored wood exposure and lots of windows. There are some exposed fermenters (that aren’t in use) Bartenders aren’t knowledgeable, but can recite the generic beer descriptions from the menu. You can order The Beer Garden, which is a sampler of eight 3oz servings of what’s currently available. I believe it was around $7.50 for that. I also had chips with awesome guacamole, chili, and the French fries are good. Everyone else I was with enjoyed their dishes. The beers are very average. Out of the ones I sampled I enjoyed the Altbier the most. A decent place, with OK beers, nothing great. Good for a Sunday lunch, fair prices, overall.“
