“The ambiance and decor is impressive, with live music on Friday a great place to chill. Their beer is great, the service is good and the food surprisingly good.“

“Pretty nice spot right off the water in Newburgh. Great old builiding with what I assume is the production portion downstairs, and the brewpub upstairs. Big open beer garten-like feel, with large windows overlooking the Hudson. Plenty of picnic table seating. We visited close to opening time, and it wasn’t too crowded, but got more full as time went on. Service was really good, at the bar only, but friendly folks who were all too happy to discuss their beers. No samples for the tickers. Had a dozen or so taps and another dozen or so bottles/cans for the to go stuff. Didn’t try the food. Definitely a worth while spot if heading through the area.“

“Double date lunch with the Wife and friends. A roomy upper floor bar room that is reminiscent of a European beer hall meshed with industrial America. Large long tables. There is no table service. You must place your order at the far bar, below the huge projection TV. Once there the staff is quite knowledgeable. and friendly. Impressive selection of their own beers and a few local guest taps. Two cornhole bean bag lanes. As Sloth would say... a clean pissery complete with stainless troughs for the gents. A funky growler filler machine I’d never seen before. A busload of folks appeared as we were leaving and filled two tables up. This place is a bit chilly as it is in an old brick warehouse with little on the insulation side. Bring a hat in winter.“

“Stopped in after doing a little hiking in catskills. So yea this place is awesome. Decor is amazing with great views of Hudson, tons of space, and games. Lots of beers on tap that are very good and food was decent. If you’re in this neighborhood no reason not to stop by it’s a great time for sure.“

“What a place! The bar/restaurant is on the top floor of a brick, former industrial-ish building. Great views of the Hudson. No bar stools, just many tables with benches. Lots of board games. Crowd nicely mixed between young and old. Beer: Real range of styles, from a smoked gose (undersmoked), to a booming DIPA. Smart, helpful barkeeps. Looking forward to returning.“

“Great place. The beer is very good. The newburgh conspiracy is an awesome stout. One request, a little music wouldn’t hurt.“

“Awesome place. Love the open rustic feeling of the old existing warehouse. Decent selection of beers on tap and all were great. No flights available, but bartenders had no problem letting you sample whatever you want. Did not order food, but by the looks of the menu the food sounds great. Environment is super chill. Lots of big picnic tables to sit at, ledges around the entire perimeter of the building to stand and enjoy a pint, and lots of cool games to play (from board games, to cornhole). I will def revisit again, especially since it’s only a 9 min drive from my sisters house.“

“Only dropped by since this place was along our route home and ended up being very happy I did. Large warehouse taproom that is filled with large benches for community-style seating, a large bar with taps on one end, and filled with games such as air hockey, cornhole, and billiards that are all free-to-play. Not to mention the large windows down the long side of the room offering great views of the river and area outside. Service was great but be warned they don’t really offer flights nor know how to charge for them if that’s all you want to do, but they do offer free samples to let you try before you buy. Had 11 beers on tap and they were fantastic! Great diversity of styles. Brewer was very friendly and passionate about his beers. Prices were fair and they had very good growler fill prices along with a frequent-buyer program. Had an interesting food menu with light-fare options, but we didn’t try any on this visit. Great place and one I will stop at everytime I’m passign through.“

“Stopped here last Sunday afternoon. Fantastic place...great vibe...amazing building (exactly what I’d want if I ever opened my own place)...fantastic view over the river from high up on the hill! I lived in Orange County for almost 20 years and have watched the riverfront in Newburgh start and stop with the efforts to revitalize the area. I will tell you that in one step the Newburgh Brewing Company has added more to this area than any other single place in recent memory. This is a destination craftbeer bar...and when the word gets out people will come to Newburgh for this place first...and that will hopefully benefit the area as a whole. I can’t say enough about the renovation of this building and the space they’ve created...it’s incredible! Now for the beers...you’re going to enjoy coming here and drinking these beers. I especailly loved the Hop Drop Double IPA...the Paperbox Pale & 2013 Harvest Ales were notable too. The most original though is the Chile Lime Stout. This is actually a spicy beer wth a noticable hot pepper kick...kind of like the old Cave Creek beer...but with one huge exception...Cave Creek is a terrible tasting beer...this stout is fantastic. I highly recommend this with any of the strong flavored meat dishes on the menu. I tried all of their 12-14 beers. Since they don’t offer flights though...you need to choose wisely and order the 10 oz beers for those you’re pretty sure you’ll like...and then hope they will be as generous as they were to me...allowing me to taste small samples of the others. This is a destination craftbeer place...make it a stop on one of your beer tours or day trips for sure.“

“Finally made it to the Wherehouse (in spite of it being rather local, and located within a half mile of the Newburgh Brewery, a place I visit at least once a month on average). Came here during a Newburgh Brewery event, so it may have been a little more crowded than a normal Thursday evening, and may explain some of the problems I had with the place. It was rather crowded (and quite loud) when I came in. Neither are things that would keep me from going to a place, but I prefer to go a little earlier so I can actually have conversations that don’t require shouting. So while that’s not really an issue for me (and I’ve been told that a regular weekday evening isn’t like that), it does make me plan ahead a little more for when I go back. This may also be an non-issue regularly, but during the time I was there (4 hours or so), I never received a beer in a glass. Everything was served to me and just about everyone else I saw, in disposable plastic cups. I could understand that for people taking drinks outside perhaps, but there was no outside area. Again, maybe because it was crowded they ran out of glassware a bit earlier than expected, but for a craft beer bar to be serving a brewery’s beers at a tap takeover style event in plastic cups seemed a bit poor form.“

“The four square description of this place is dive bar and it’s pretty spot on. It looks like someone took their house and turned it into a bar which is pretty cool when you think about it. I can confirm that the taps are still mostly craft and did have a couple of things, like the stone iPa with the expiration date, that I didn’t expect to see. They do have a mug club but its no mug club that I’ve ever seen mainly because none of the mugs matched. Everything on draft was $5 each. I’m. It sure now much the Friday Night crowd was into craft beer but they seemed to be having a good time. I wish the locals around here had has interesting a tap list.“

“This place is awesome! The quality of the beer, the ambience of the Taproom, and general feel makes this one of my favorite places to have a drink. Paul and Chris have done an outstanding job of keeping the Newburgh Brewerylocal.“

“They’ve been brewing for about three months or more now, and the bar area has been open for about a month and a half and I think I’ve been here a good 5 times already, so I’m definitely behind in adding this as a place and getting around to giving it a proper review. The brewery inhabits an old factory space near the waterfront in Newburgh. Most recently it was a cardboard box factory I think. A lot of the industrial feel has been maintained and the space keeps a nice minimalist feel to it. The space itself is absolutely gorgeous. Large high ceilings and immense oversized picnic tables (that they made themselves with a large amount of reclaimed materials) that easily sit 8 or more give a beer hall feel to the place. There are 14 of these big tables with benches as well as another taller one for standing around. Given the size of everything, even when there’s a crowd it never feels crowded, as the tables themselves comfortably seat 110+ people. An area in the back has been set aside to play corn-hole. Views overlook the Hudson river and there is bar railing at the right level to hang out at the huge windows and take in the view. Food here is very solid, it helps that Chris who is the head brewer was a culinary school grad before going to brew at Brooklyn and then come back to Newburgh to open his brewery. He designed the menu and the food has an elegant rustic feel to it, definitely good stuff to pair with the session beers that make up the tap list. Prices are nice with the general price being $5 a pint, and the occasional $4 special on a specific beer for the whole weekend. Very glad Chris and company have opened up nearby. Been here a number of times already and I know I’ll be back many, many more.“

“Huge place. Huge bar with lots of macros and smaller market brews. Seasonals. Restaurant was really crowded. Its very popluar and just opened, so reservations a good idea on weekends! Waited an hour for a table. Decor is limited and its clean. Service was super fast once we sat down, but its loud, very loud, as it can seat as many people as a dining hall, and that’s the atmosphere on the weekends. The bar is a large square. Its right on the Hudson River. Looks like there is a patio for warmer weather, but I couldn’t tell. Prices seemed high for some things, low for others. Overall, an o.k. spot.“

“While I’ve rated many places after just one visit, I’ve been the Rail a ton, and still haven’t written it up. Why? Because it’s a rather unique place and hard to get a handle on it. For the general tap lists alone it’s worth a trip here. Brian, the owner, seeks out great beers, often doing the distribution legwork himself and driving hours just to pick up unique kegs. They often have things on tap that might not seem out of place down in the city at the tiger or RnH, but for this area, are amazing finds. The atmosphere is eclectic, as is the crowd. They have a mug club, which attracts the mug club kind of crowd, but... those folks and the one permanent bud tap (out of 18, 17 good is pretty solid) make it possible to have great stuff for the beer geek. Food wise, it’s basically things dumped in a fryer. The staff is great generally, and the beers are usually outsanding.“

“This is a cool place but I had some issues with it. One, for such an emphasis on a beer selection, why do they have video poker machines? That implies the opposite of what the beer hobbyist would be into. The other, the crowd was terrible. Mostly locals that were ordering bud the whole night -- I grew up here so I can criticize the locals, a bunch of young guys that all dressed the same, it was like attack of the clones. Such a decent selection of brews -- well, for the area at least -- everyone was going for the cheapest. It just seemed like a waste of kegs. I would love to go back maybe during the day for lunch when it is not so obnoxious.“

“It’s an alright place. Besides getting through the aisles of macros, there is a decent selection of micros and rare imports in the back area. Unfortunately, I often find dated bottles which can be disheartening, but being that there’s not many other choices in this area, it does do the trick when I’m visiting my parents in Newburgh. I wouldn’t say the staff is knowledgeable, but they’re nice at least.“

“Came here when visiting friends in Newburgh. Nice, low ceiling bar with a warm ambiance, some wooden decor. They have a back wall coered with rows of tap old tap-handles, which was kinda cool. Nice bartender at the time. He knew beer enough to talk briefly. They’ve got 16 decent taps. All standard micro-brews. Being that I’m from NYC, I was happy to see Browns on tap. I had a pint of their Pilsner. Pints are all $5, standard. Nothing to go out of the way for, but decent for a pint when driving by.“

“Great Local bar where anyone would feel right at home. They have an excellent tap selection that changes regularly and a new cask every Thursday. You better be there when it is tapped or you probably won’t get any. The owner and staff seem very knowledgeable and even enthusiastic about craft brew.“

“Most pubs/bars in the New Windsor/Cornwall/Newburgh area offer the same items on tap. While you might find some very good offerings on tap, the variety and duration of each is slow and boring. But, at the Golden Rail, I find a new item on tap each time, and I like that a lot. Service is nice and knowledgable. I loved my experience in England last year, and this was the closet pub in the area to what might be found in central England. Food is normal bar fair, but I hope that changes soon. Overall, a great place for a pint, which is the most important thing.“

“Cool place 10 minutes from my house, on the far outskirts of Newburgh. Nice long wodden bar with a lot of beer themed stuff. A bunch of English style booths. Theres 18 solid taps. Middle Ages, Lake Placid, Anchor 04, Victory, Brooklyn Brewmasters, a bunch more. Rotating all the time. Shakespeare Stout, and Scaldis Noel coming soon. Also a very good bottle selection.Great service. Bartender really knew what she was talking about. Themed tasting every month. Mug club for the regulars. A lot of beer drinking people. This place isn’t going to blow you away but it is a sick bar.“

“This English Style Ale House is an oasis in an otherwise barren area. 18 taps offering the true BA some outstanding rare choices on tap, such as Black Sheep Brewery’s "Monty Python Holy Grail Ale," Stone’s Arrogant Bastard, their own contact brew, Golden Rail IPA, Brooklyn’s Brewmaster Reserve, and a multitude of other taps, cleaned and rotated regularly. They are open for lunch, serving terrific chili, wings and burgers, and authentic English fare is coming. They have pool, darts, horseshoes, foosball, NY Lottery’s "Quickdraw" and an outdoor patio. You’d have to be in a much bigger area to find a better place to have a few with friends, or make new ones.“
