80 /100 76 SOUTH ST Decided to take a drive out here yesterday...Sunday afternoon. It’s a bit far...at least traffic-wise from my north Jersey home...but running out of breweries within 50-75 miles I haven’t been to. The drive out was tough even thought I was through Manhattan by 11:30...still took me another 1 1/2 hour. Was it worth it? Well...I did like the place...but I wouldn’t go again unless already in the area (now I would for Barrier). Nonetheless, very nice brewery. Not that special to look at inside...but it gets the job done with great people and great service. More important...the beers were very good. I tired a flight of 6...5 were variations of IPA’s and pale ales...plus their barley wine. They were all good and two especially so...as a couple were fresh west coast IPA’s. To be fair regarding coming to Oyster Bay...it’s really a beautiful little town (think Teddy Roosevelt & Billy Joel) featuring a main street with nice shops. Fortunately one of the brewery patrons sent m down the block to the "Grandstand" which is a must visit while in town...a 100+ year old Italian ice shack with easily some of the best Italian ice I’ve ever had! Bottom-line...if passing thru or anywhere in the area...go to the brewery...better yet...include with a visit to Teddy’s home Sagamore Hill. |
52 /100 Oyster Bay Superstar (Beer Store) 60 SOUTH ST Another Superstar outpost that is literally 10 steps from Oyster Bay brewing company. Tight space, growler station with six taps. Fairly decent selection of six packs, but the singles shelves were unimpressive. Staff was friendly, but not as knowledgeable as other spots. I would avoid this place and hit the Huntington location. |
