“Went on a weekday right after they opened and it was empty. Had their draft Maibock, which was quite good, along with a burger. Wooden tables and chairs inside. Felt right for a tap house. I would return but I don't live nearby. They have a good menu and sell bottles of a number of specialty beers to take with you.“

“Another great discovery on this trip. Located outside of utica, this farm brewery is very simple, nice, big taproom, super modern lots of picnic tables outside. Great knowledgeable service. Beers are varied, with emphasis on Barrel Aged offerings, like barleywines, stouts, scotch Ales. Tasters go from 3 to 6$. I got the championship flight with their big beers and it did not dissappoint. Worth the stop on Utica...“

“Park in the street. Dim lighting. Nice older restored building. On bartender. 10 beers. Good food. Soft rock on radio. Beers to can to go. Few souvenirs like shirts and hats for purchase. Kinda upscale and a nice place at Bagg’s Square Brewing. Cheers!“

“Don't be fooled by the word brewery in the name. This is a Saranac taproom located right in front of the old Utica Club brewery. Loud, nouisy, crowded. Iffy street parking and cash only policy for under $10. Had a pint and left. Not my scene.“

“Fairly new place, chill and laid back. Old building renovated wonderfully. Nice bar and several seating areas inside and out. Street parking. Food available, German menu. Small but varied taplist.“

“Great place all around. Listed as a brewery, but this has quite a good restaurant specializing in German Food. Lots of German and other traditional style beers too, along with a great old school IPA. Great service and experience, great atmosphere. My wife and I both loved it.“

“Drove o Utica on a whim, decided to check out some breweries. Food was delicious, beer selection was great but they didn’t have any of their beers on tap, isn’t a brewpub suppose to brew their own beer? Oh well, cool place either way.“

“One of the oldest breweries in the state and the country - you can tell as soon as you walk in. It’s arranged very strangely, though. You start out walking through what looks like an old townhouse or a mueseum, and then take an elevator up to the brewery floor. It’s laid out in a weird maze-like pattern. The tour guide is very informative and friendly. Afterwards you can get a few beers on tap at their vintage tap room. No food aside from pretzels or chips. Saranac beers can be hit or miss, though.

The gift shop is nice, but most everything is expensive. The handmade steins are almost $100 each! They have most of the Saranac beers available in 6 and 12 packs and you can mix a six if you like. Oddly enough, there’s no fridge. In fact, I went in the winter and the beers were directly underneath a heating duct with hot dry air blowing on them. WTF?! A brewery should know better than to store their wares like that!

It was worth taking the tour (I forget the price - $10 maybe?). Worth checking out once if you’re a fan of historical brewing.“

“Stopped in for a tour during the winter and they weren’t available on weekdays. We purchased some bottles in the shop but were hoping for better prices. All of the Saranac and Utica Club products were available but I can get them cheaper in the grocery store. I really like Saranac beer but was somewhat disapointed in the brewery shop and lack of a brewery tour.“

“Visited: 11-29-11 I stopped in here on my way back from Albany for a quick lunch. A: Its a small place that looks like a house on the outside, has a small bar that holds about 10 people and has about 8 tables surrounding it. It doesnt try to be a huge place and has a lot of local feel. Q: They had a nice fall selection of beers but still catered to the locals with Utica Club. S: I came in during lunchtime and there was only 2 other people there eating, so service was decent. S: They had 11 guest taps and 2 in house taps, along with about 50 bottles for sale, a nice variety of different styles. F: Had a Panini and Potato Salad which was decent enough, didnt blow you away but its a panini. V: The prices were reasonable on the beer and food. Breakfast Stout was kicked...and a Belgian Triple is on the way“

“A nice place to enjoy a beer. They hold Irish folk sessions once a month which is a great compliment to the selection of Irish influenced beers they have. The food is typical, nothing extraordinary. It is a smaller place which becomes very cozy in winter but slightly uncomfortable in summer. The staff is very knowledgeable and loves to have a conversation about beer. I’m happy to have it near me.“

“An oasis of good beer on an otherwise nondescript stretch of road, you’ll see a panoply of hipsters, tattoo artists, slutty chicks and townies. The bar will always have at least 3-4 outstanding (and expensive) taps, but if you don’t like repeating, you might not stick around long. The bar is a little cramped, and if you want to sit at the bar, you better keep an eye peeled. The music is a little too loud for me, because it’s that kind of bass guitar-heavy, booming sound that makes it hard to hear your friends sometimes. I wish this place was a little better than it was. It does the beer thing right, but the BAR thing not quite.“

“This is a great place to spend a warm Saturday afternoon in Utica. The taps are generally pretty solid, and the bottle selection is even better. The bartenders are always accommodating, and one time the owner came out to say hello. (He must have seen how much money I’d dropped.) I will come to this place every time I travel through Utica. The food (much of it of a fried variety) is also very very good.“

“This place is pretty cool. An old rustic-looking joint with a decent selection.I was there for the tapping of their 2 in-house brews. The Breakfast Stout was fantastic and the other was a Belgian (can’t quite remember the name, but I had two of them). Food was decent (typical pub fare, with some panini sprinkled in). The place is "Home of the Utica Club Side" which means you can have a side of Utica Club (the local brew) with your lunch. Nice!“

“Was killing time between a wedding ceremony and reception and sought haven in this god-for-saken town at Saranac. Tastings are only included with tour but I missed tour but heard people drinking and had to beg to pay full price just to drink, its only 5 bucks but they acted like I was crazy. whatever the beer here has little selection or flavor however its a terrific building and I heard tour was good. they played old beer stein cartoons so i enjoyed myself despite staff and beer selection“

“Great little place in Utica. 10 great taps, small place with a great atmosphere. Taps were fantastic, ranging from Nogne O #100 to Ten Fidy to Nugget Nectar. Excellent prices, best place in central NY to my knowledge.“

“This might be the best overall tour I’ve been to. Not a ton to taste but the rest of the tour makes up for it. Lots of pre prohibition history including alot of speakeasy antiques. You can taste their malt and hops. Their bottling facility is pretty intense. The tour staff is very knowledgeable. Really enjoyed it.“

“I visited on the same "large private group tour" as jmulv. I can attest to the great value. We had all the beer we could drink before and after the tour, along with some pizza, raw veggies and various other edibles. The beer selection was solid; they had a style for everyone. The Tasting Room itself was quite lovely: High ceilings, lots of old hardwood, plenty of breweriana. The tour was great. The Brewery is quite nice, well-maintained, steeped in history. Guide knew his stuff and was friendly. Giftshop had some great items and prices were reasonable. A very positive experience overall.“

“Went here on a large private group tour, so the value was incredible. The brewery itself is very classy, nice. The staff was extremely friendly. Beer selection was very solid. Good brewery, one of the only reasons to visit Utica.“

“Visited on a Saturday afternoon - interesting breweriana items in the gift shop, but actually a very poor selection of the brew they produce. Tried to buy a single Imperial IPA bottle they had lying about - they refused to sell it to me on the grounds that it was "old, and we don’t make that one anymore" - then tried to send me to some bev. centre down the street to try and find it! Refused to let us join the just-departing tour group and just generally unfriendly staff. Really irritated me - I don’t love Saranac by any means, but I won’t be back, and I’ll be buying even less than usual in the future. This place left a sour taste in my mouth, and no beer even passed my lips.“

“I love this place. I went to college in Utica and went so many times that my friends and I could give the tour. There is so much history with this place. I would deffinitely reccomend going. The beer and soda selection is great and there is almost always something new in the works.“

“Went long ago before I began enjoying beer (perhaps 8 years ago), on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. While I can’t speak for the beers that were served, the root beer was excellent. Rated median for all values, as my memory of the visit is fading“
