Food Lion - Avon (Grocery Store)

“For beer geeks, the best thing about this run of the mill grocery store is their build-your-own six pack singles. For under 10 bucks you can assemble six North Carolina beers for sampling at home. The selection, however, is nothing special, and certainly does not come close to that of nearby Connor's Supermarket in Buxton.“

“Not the best beer list in Avon NC, but this place seems to be always busy year around. Only four craft beers, all leaning toward the light and insipid end of the spectrum. Food is okay. Go for the nightly specials which are a bargain, as are PBRs for a buck fifty.“

“A welcome addition to the Hatteras Island beer scene, this place opened in August 2014 and has the best draft list on the island. The 21 beers on tap include both local North Carolina as well as micros from other parts of the country. According to the bartender the taps will rotate and they will be open year round. I hope this true. The ambiance is beach bar with a mix of locals and tourists. Open mike nights bring out the budding local musicians. Not much in the way of food, but a friendly and obliging staff makes this an inviting place.“

“Opening only a week ago, this place is a welcome addition to the rather abysmal beer scene on Hatteras Island. The draft list are all North Carolina brewed (all but one - Dales - are home grown NC breweries). Although there was nothing too exciting on the draft menu, they were all solid selections, oriented toward the lighter end of the taste spectrum. I was told they will be rotating taps from time to time. The bottle/can menu was pretty dismal, being oriented to the mass market pale lager clientele. Food was quite good all served with enthusiasm. Worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood.“

“The Chimay triple is the big draw here. The other 8 beers on draft are pretty ho hum. The bottle list is short and includes such classics as Corona and Bud Light Lime but also some good micro brews from dogfish head, bells etc. not exceptional but pretty good for a beach bar in the middle of nowhere.“

“I stopped in this place because it was in the database, but I’m not sure why it’s there. They do have some craft beer on tap and some in bottles, but there isn’t anything all that worthwhile. The beer list consisted mainly of a few drinkable NC brews and some mainstream mass marketed pseudo crafts (Blue Moon, etc.). The food was good but rather overpriced for the area. The restaurant was very loud and the service while very friendly was rather slow. Overall, there are better places to eat in the Outer Banks for the price (Rusty’s and the Inn at Pamlico Sound come to mind) and you are better off stocking up on beer at Chip’s on the way in if you want craft brew.“
