“Small cozy brewpub with 8 or so beers on tap. A welcome addition to the Outer Banks. Location is on a street right behind the dunes with a laid back surfer vibe. Solid beers. Friendly place. I’ll be back.“

“This is a top notch beer store located inconspicuously in a strip mall on the main drag of touristy Kill Devil Hills. The interior is small, sleek, and adorned with a cool, pop culture mural. This is the kind of store you patronize to bring home sought-after beers you won't find elsewhere on the island. The inventory leans more towards the current trends in beer, fruited sour ales and hazies. It's not a suitable store to just stock up on some crushers for the beach but you can do that at any grocery store on the island. The selection is big enough without being so large it becomes tedious. There are plenty of gems to be found. Great store.“

“This was the closest late night spot to our hotel and ended up proving to be the best bar for a beer nerd. The taps rotate very frequently and they make an effort to get real variety. The bottle cooler is broad and not quite to the point of so vast that beers just die in there. You can easily find local, regional, imports, or bigger micros. Service is great. The atmosphere is really cool too. It's dim with eclectic decor covering every wall and crevice. A small amount of TV's are up for good measure. I didn't come to coastal NC to eat a hamburger but I have to say theirs is excellent.“

“This was handily walking distance from our hotel. They're exceeding the expectations of an old-school brewpub in a tourist town. The beer is solid, smartly focusing on quenching options for the beach, but a few lesser seen styles were on. The food isn't foreign by any stretch but it's really good and has staples you'd expect from a joint on the OBX. There is a vast amount of seating inside and out and service is great. It's a mandatory beer stop in Kill Devil Hills.“

“Stopped here twice on vacation & enjoyed both trips. Plenty of seating options, but I’m sure it gets busy in season. Nice beer selection, 8 on tap & 3-4 winners. IPA & Hefe were quite nice. Food was very good, Bison Burgers, cheese steaks, shrimp & grits were all enjoyed! Bar was a good spot to catch a game at night. Worth the stop if you are on the OBX, particularly if it’s off peak!“

“Nice beer/wine store, good selection for this area. Had tastings going on when I was there. service was good, you can find something you like here. Would have liked to see more local stuff to choose from, but it’s the best shop around here.“

“Visited 05/06/15. A very large brewpub located along the commercial sprawl of the Croatan Highway. This part of the outer banks is entirely oriented towards towards the seasonal tourist trade, this place sort of feels set up to absorb a huge crowd. The brewpub feels like a large barn. There’s a few eating areas, one of which has an elevated stage. I sat at the bar and received prompt though disinterested service. Unfortunately, only 5 house beers were available, no guests. The house beers were without significant flaws, but very safe and underwhelming. The lemongrass wheat was the only beer that really exceeded my modest expectations. Prices were decent. Overall, this place is worth a stop if you’re in the area and interested in a few ticks. However, don’t lose any sleep if you skip a visit.“

“Visited 05/06/15. This is probably the best store you’ll find in the northern outer banks. Chip’s is a modest place located in a strip mall. Easy parking. The service was friendly but unhelpful. The beer selection won’t impress most people, but it’s decent for a shop in an out-of-the-way tourist town. There’s probably 200 beers available, including many singles. Only a few North Carolina beers were available. Most of the stuff’s the kind of large craft that you’ll find anywhere (Boulevard, SN, Stone etc.). There’s also a small tasting room with a few beers on tap. Prices were OK.“

“Very nice selection of beers and all available as singles. That’s always appreciated. Friendly service. You could call this an oasis as there’s not that many good beer shops in the OBX.“

“Decent beers, decent service and mediocre but expensive food. There’s not much going on in the Outer Banks - beer wise - so I guess this is the place to visit. We visited the place off-season so there was quite quiet.“

“A lunch stop on my trip. Only six beers on tap at any time. Ambiance was nice, service was first rate. Food was pretty good. I was actually quite impressed with the beer - in a flight of four tasters two were exceptional and one was very good. Definltely worth checking out if you are in OBX.“

“Pretty cool place actually. Beer selection is good, not great. They mostly have small format bottles, unrefrigerated. Next door to the bottle shop is their tasting room - only six taps, but when I was there they were pretty high impact, with things like Devil Dancer, Founders Harvest, Creme Brulee, Wheat Love.“

“This is a small store front in the 6 mile strip mall. It is easy to miss while driving. Large selection of North Carolina and other southern beers. They sell singles of most everything. They have six taps and you can drink while you shop. It is a great place to stop to stock the fridge in your obx rental.“

“The only food I’ve had here has been appetizers, but I’ve enjoyed what I’ve tried. As a fan of wheat beers/hefewizen style, I must say I was impressed by their Lemongrass Wheat. Very light and easy to drink, and the bartender was very helpful in recommending it to me based off my personal tastes. I’ve also tried their Kolsch which was quite satisfying too.“

“Lunch stop on the way to Hatteras. Beers on tap were mainly their own, ~5 styles. Service was good, food was good. Place was not very busy when we were there. Left with a growler of their lemongrass wheat ale. Somewhat annoyed you can only use their growlers but o well.“

“Nice to have a brewery in the Outerbanks. Smallish selection of beer and a good selection of food. Some beers are of interest in particular the lemongrass wheat. Only annoying part is the amount of events with cover charges. Otherwise decent hangout with some decent beers.“

“This place is conveniant, right near the bridge. (MP 6 I think). One side has a nice tasting room witha small bar and some round tables. Very comfy inside. They always rotate stuff and keep good stuff on tap. They have flights. Assorted cheeses are the only food. The other side has a very good selection of single bottles and 6 packs. Prices are reasonable. People are very friendly and somewhat knowledgeable. Highly recommend this while at OBX.“

“Very nice place that I luckily found on Ratebeer and was able to visit. Bottle beer selection for singles is very good and many local NC choices that I haven’t seen before. Service was perfect - available and friendly, but not pushy. Small tap room is connected with 6 beers available for a pint or sample. Great place for good beer while in OBX.“

“Originally reviewed: 9/14/09. Wow! This is the one and only place to get your beer when in the area. An entire wall is dedicated to single bottles of beer, all separated by style. Another rack is 6-packs only, and there’s even a small cooler section if you want to take your beers straight to the beach for consumption. Chip offers a very wide selection of brews at very reasonable prices. Many of his single bottles are less then $1.99, which is hard to find where I come from. I even found the new Stone Vertical for only $7.99! I spoke with Chip a little bit and he was very nice and helpful. I told him this was the most recommended beer stop for the area by BA, and he was very happy about that. I will return here again and again when I get back to this area. Highly recommend.“

“Originally reviewed: 9/14/09. Stopped here for dinner with the wife the other night. This is a really unique cool-looking building. The interior is pretty cool, though it resembles a barn. There’s a nice stage for concerts and whatnot. The lighting is on the dark side, but I liked it. There’s a nice long bar to the right of the entrance that was packed when we arrived. They had 6 of their beers available that night. I got a sampler of 4 of them (5 oz pours) for only $6. Not too bad. I tried their Kolsch, Pale Ale, Brown Ale, and their Chocolate Stout. All of them were above average, but I especially enjoyed the Kolsch and the Stout. Very nice brews. The food was stellar! My wife got the crab bisque and a salad. I got the "Yardbird" chicken sandwich with a salad. The bisque was creamy and smooth with plenty of chunky crab in it. Very good. The salads were good as well as we both really enjoyed their house dressing. My chicken sandwich was good, but nothing special, though they say that’s what people go there for. Meh, it was ok. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this place and will definitely make this a regular stop when I get back to this area. Recommend.“

“My wife and I discovered this place by accident and were glad we did. It’s right on the main drag in and out of the Outer Banks, and is an excellent place to pick up the best craft and import selections around. I found a few goodies here that I can’t get across the state line in Virginia, and the guy working (owner?) was super cool, well informed, beer savvy and low key. Most definitely worth a visit!“

“Great newer store on the Outer Banks to stock up on a variety of different beers. The selection is way above average. The service is excellent, as the gentleman behind the counter engaged me in a very informative conversation, epsecially about the local brewing scene. Chip’s also had a very nice selection of wines. So besides booze, it’s pretty much a one-stop shop for alcohol on the Banks. The store was very clean and well organized. I could have definitely seen myself spending way more than I did in this place! This will definitely be a go-to place for me when I’m on the Outer Banks!“

“Cool wind powered brewery with high ceilings and a friendly staff ... the cuban sandwich I got was huge and tasty and the hushpuppies were excellent ... the beer was all summer on tap (they were out of their strong ale sadly) so I had a brown ale, kolsch, blonde ale and wit to choose from ... There were four of us and the bill was around 100 bucks so it wasn’t too bad 5 bucks a pint and they had a bottle of lemongrass saison to go for 5.99 ... i’d definitely check this place out if your in the area“

“The wife and I were in the Outer Banks for a wedding this past weekend so I decided to check out BeerFly to see what, if any, good beer stores were in the area. When I saw the reviews for Chip’s Wine & Beer Market I knew we had to stop by. The store is very well stocked and the staff was friendly and seemed knowledgeable. I was really only looking to pick up a six pack to put in my suitcase so I wanted to get some brews that aren’t available in Florida. I ended up getting 3 from Founders, 2 from Duck-Rabbit and Modus Hoperandi from Ska Brewing. I was very happy with these. My only disappointment was when I asked if they had any Founders Breakfast Stout in stock and was told that they didn’t have it yet but they would be getting a case of Kentucky Breakfast Stout in stock next week which is one week too late for me! They were supposed to get it on Thursday but it was not in their latest shipment. I would highly recommend Chip’s to anyone visiting the Kitty Hawk area of the Outer Banks.“

“This is my go-to beer store when I’m in OBX, as it should be for anyone. A real oasis in this beer desert. Prices are pretty reasonable, especially considering it must be tough to get good craft beer distributed out here. The service is excellent - Chip and the rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful. A nice selection, especially for the area, with both room temp and cold beers available, a large wall selection arranged by style, and almost everything available in singles. The place is designed so that the beer doesn’t get hit with too much sunlight. Glassware and shirts are also available. I have Chip’s to thank for many quality OBX ticks.“

“Stopped in here the other night for a few ticks and a few games of cornhole during my recent trip to OBX (I’ve gone to OBX at least once every year for my entire life, even since I’ve been marooned out west). A great ambiance at this place. Both times I’ve been here, they’ve had a live band playing. This time it was a pretty good reggae band from the reggae hotbed of Washington, DC. Nice large indoor area and a huge outdoor area where you can play cornhole and play on some weird playground thing, if you’re drunk enough to do so. Unfortunately you sometimes have to PAY for this ambiance - there was a $5 cover charge last time I went. Now you know I’m always the guy you can count on to give you the scoop on the cougar scene, even now that I’m engaged. OBX is not exactly a young area, and there are plenty of 40-something cougs on the prowl. If you’re not a complete tool, expect to get hit on, especially if you’re a champion beer ticker like myself, since women can’t resist the allure of a guy like that. I had a rabid pack of cougs approach me (well, they probably weren’t any older than me, but still). A couple of them were rather large specimens, so I had to be very tactful in my backing away. I had beers to tick and cornhole to play. Anyway, I digress. The beers here are hit-or-miss. Some are very mediocre, whereas others, like the Stormy Roses Stout, are excellent. Beers can be served in samplers of about 4oz per beer, which is ideal for ticking. The place is a little understaffed and pretty busy on summer nights, so my advice is to order several beers at once when you can get a bartender’s attention. Food is pretty good. Nothing’s going to blow you away, but it’s above average for such an establishment. Prices are about what you’d expect. Not particularly high or low. Finally, one good convenience of this place is that there are often several cabs waiting outside from about midnight to 2am to take your plastered ass home. Nice place, especially for OBX. I’ll be back next time.“

“Nice restaurant with home brews. Service was good, but a little slow due to not enough staff / lots of big tables. Food was good, but don’t order the burgers. Apparently NC requires burgers to be medium well... skip this and you’ll do fine.“

“A friendly place with great food and tasty beer. Stopped in for dinner while visiting my parents and wanted some local suds. I started with their Captain’s Porter which was a very nice porter then moved the the Kolsch (very refreshing) and the Hop Monster (it was OK). All the beer was a tad on the cool side but I’m sure in the summer that is fine since it can get hot outside. The beer was definitely fresh and the staff got them out to me quickly. The food here is a winner, too. Tasty and well priced especially for a place in such a touristy area. It was really nice to find some local beer in the Outer Banks. Good stuff!“

“Recently visited Chip’s while at the Outer Banks. Mostly a wine store but there is certainly a good amount of space devoted to beer (I don’t know exactly but I would say this is about 75% vs. 25% wine to beer). The beer selection is very good and well stocked. The store is very clean and seems orderly. The people in the store seem to know their beer. The prices seem in line with other stores in the general area. Within a 75 mile radius, at least, you will not find a better selection. A must if you are visiting the Outer Banks.“

“We stopped by here for lunch on our way back home after a week in the OBX. The server was very friendly and we found both the food and the beer to be pretty good. If you stop in, go for the beer battered chicken sandwich and the hush puppies. Both were first rate. Skip the burger which turned out to be very overcooked. They have a good selection of their own beers on tap, a guest tap, and some BMC products in bottles. Worth a stop if you happen to be down in that area.“

“Nice little shop om a non-descrip strip mall. Beer is definitely a small area but nicely set up by style. Really good selection of singles to make your own six pack. Prices not overly bad for a beach town. Nice to see super fresh Two Hearted (bottled in mid July). Other nice beers like Stone Anniv, Old Rasp XII, and Sahti.
