“Heck yeah! Fonta Flora Morganton! So happy to be able to visit this brewery on a journey from my parents house to Asheville. Meemaw was on tap! I was so lucky. 16 taps: 1/2 lagers and IPAs for the masses, and 1/2 excellent sours and barrel aged beers. All the beers are excellent and unique. Quite a large space with wood floors and brick walls. Situated in a lucky interesting triangle street intersection. Full ZZ Top bearded bartender. A lone yellowjack dies in my amber ale. Highly recommend to go out of your way to visit.“

“I like this place. Techno music blaring. Bar converted into a taproom/beer store with one wall lined with 7 book shelves of craft beer, many from California, but mostly local breweries. Bar has 7 taps. Located in downtown Morgantown, a few blocks from a couple of breweries.“

“Smallish place near the edge of town, about a 10-15 minute walk from Fonta Flora. Street parking was adequate on a Sunday afternoon. Long bar, restaurant tables, brewhouse on one side. Second room with a ping pong table that will hopefully become a barrel room some day. Multiple guest taps plus eight or so house beers. Brewer Joseph was drinking at the bar with the New Sarum brewer, both are good signs. Barman spilled beer on my iPhone, so they didn't charge me for the beers I had. Sadly my iPhone still worked. I told the guy he can spilled beer on my iPhone any time he wants, if it means I drink for free. Flights of four are eight bucks for everyone but me. Beers are top notch, with a good variety of styles. This is North Carolina so there's no food, obviously. Well worth a stop.“

“Located in the small but lively downtown of Morganton, NC (population 18,000) is one of the true gems of the southestern US. Visited for State of Origin and hung out at the brewery for a few hours before the event. Was able to meet Todd (great brewer with a very welcoming personality). All of the staff were friendly honestly. What seemed to be 16 taps of their own beer. Most beers have locally foraged ingredients and a focus on local. World class beers on tap with great pricing. Picked up some bottles and they are canning now for 4 packs should be available as well. If you find yourself in Asheville, skip it and head east to Morganton and enjoy some of Fonta's terroir.“

“There is a lot of wood in the place and a local musician was playing. There beers are on tap only with growlers that can be filled. The had one four pack in the cooler and one bottle available for purchase. It is small and cozy.“

“First off there is a ton of parking in Downtown Morganton so feel free to bring as many vehicles as needed. The combination of restored brick and wood looked like something out of a Jack Daniels advert. They seem to do a lot of Saisons and other Belgian styles, but I actually enjoyed their American style stuff more. It seems like a place with all the bells and whistles, but I didn’t really connect with it.“

“Nice corner brick building that has been restored. They have a small brewing system in the back and 6 4-tops and roughly 6 at the bar. They have 16 taps with 10 of them theirs and 4 guest taps when we visited. Snacks, meat and cheese and crackers to eat, though we didn’t try any. There was live solo act when we visited. Has a real chill vibe, would visit again, though not a destination visit, per say.“

“Visited after hiking. A small to medium tapnroom with a couple bartendresses. Flights of all beers offered and they were even nice enough to note which beers were on the last keg. Selection was about eight of their beers. Varied from a great IPA to a mediocre cream ale. Service was good. A little out of the way. Not sure if it’s worth the trip unless you are specifically seeking out their beer.“

“Beer and wine store with a long bar and about eight taps. Found some bottles I hadn’t seen in Charlotte. Decent prices. Dog and kid friendly. Worth a stop. No food. Street parking.“

“On a main drag, street parking. Inside is a short bar and some bar tables in several rooms with brewing equipment and supplies scattered about. Way in the back is a shuffleboard table. A dozen or so beers on offer, in shaker pints, half pours or flights of five 6 ouncers for 12 bucks, extra 2 bucks each for the high abv stuff. Just one bottle for slae when I passed through. Food is snax, chips or meet/cheese/crackers. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Beers are world class.“

“Another old downtown gem. Street parking was easy. Beer selection was solid. Flights of 5 that seemed to be 5 oz. Taps and bottles available. WIFI was sketchy but your in the mountains. Very laid back and relaxing on this Sunday afternoon. Servers friendly and helpful. Didn’t have a bad beer. Don’t know about pets but there were kids. Outside seating by the street was awesome. We didn’t want to leave but had work to do. Clean and inviting. I would/will go back if I can. Some crazy/tasty beers that will test your buds and mind. I liked this place and would suggest that you go. Special place“

“Third stop on the way in. Most hyped of the bunch, busiest as well. Street parking a couple blocks away worst case. Cool enough space with an outside seating area and an open bar area. Kid friendly apparently. Taplist requires careful reading. Lots of little symbols. Some beers are bottle only (onsite consumption), while others are draft. 5 new ticks for me in a flight. Beers were solid, but although they are a sour/saison forward place, my favorite was their new IPA and Irish Stout. Guest beers not available in flights. One of the Saisons was pretty meh. No bottles to go, apparently that is a release-only occurance. Help was friendly, a little slowish. Nice enough place, and from my one chance to try their bottled stuff it can be pretty awesome, but that is not (yet) on display for the random visitor.“

“Modern taproom about 50 miles East of Asheville. A must stop in the area as they make some of the best beers in North Carolina. No longer under the radar though unfortunately.“

“Located in downtown Morganton, half-way between the two breweries in town (Fonta Flora and Catawba). Combination bar and bottle shop. A small but really nice selection of taps available. Very impressive selection of bottles, featuring a lot of local breweries. They have a good amount of more beers from western North Carolina breweries than I haven’t found available living in the Charlotte area. Prices are also really good compared to Charlotte - everything seemed to be at least 10% cheaper than bottle shops in Charlotte. This is a really cool place, I plan to stop in anytime I’m passing through Morganton.“

“Really cool vibe here, at the end of downtown in a tiny. Sizable bar with full view of the brewhouse and cellar, as in you can walk up and touch them if you want. A second room with a bunch of barrels, and a third room in the back with long tables. Service was good; friendly and knowledgeable, quick and polite. Selection was solid, about 9 of their own beers on tap, plus a guest cider and kombucha. Really great beer, really cool ideals, all local or foraged ingredients. Really hope they can grow and keep doing what they’re doing.“

“Stopped in while while passing by on I-40, this place is definitely worth the 3 minute detour. Had the lunch special of two huge hand crafted slices and a soft drink for $5. Pizza was terrific. The guy I sat next to at the bar said the sandwiches are great as well. The place has seating for only about 2-3 dozen in a pleasant rustic wood interior atmosphere that belies the old branch bank/real estate office look from the outside, and it feels quite cozy and inviting. The small bar area seats an additional 8-12. Only 6 taps but they’re all local brews with an additional 12-15 cans of NC regional brews available. I didn’t partake because I had to drive on, but they had a good enough selection that I could have managed a few new ratings from both the draft and can selections. Service was friendly and just attentive enough. Prices were in line with the quality of the fare on the menu and the lunch special was an absolute bargain.“

“5-10 minutes off I-40 in beautiful historic downtown. Open feel to the shot gun style building with a bar on one side, and wine and beer bottles along the walls. Laid back atmosphere. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Well selected beer tap and bottle offerings include many of the abundant regional brews. Pricing is nice. Morganton is way less crowded and touristy than Asheville and has many of the same qualities. Well worth the slight detour off of I-40 if you’re just passing through.“

“We made the drive to Morganton from Asheville when we were visiting from Florida. We were so glad we made the scenic drive East to check this place out. As great as the brewery scene in Asheville is...Fonta Flora won us over as our favorite brewery visit in our two Asheville trips (we’ve visited all of the better ones). First impression, Morganton seems like a really cool, homey town and Fonta Flora really embodies that. You walk into a brick building (everything is made of brick in downtown Morganton it seems)...the interior decorating really nails FF’s homegrown theme and there are some cool feature-pieces, especially the copper gutter(?) driptray(?)...I don’t really know what the hell it is but it’s cool and coppery and pipey and has three levels and it’s where the excess beer runs off from the tap line. The owner and brewmaster was there and we talked to him a little bit, seemed like a very inviting a friendly guy. The other woman who was serving beers was also very nice and friendly and knowledgeable of their offerings. As great as everything else was, it all comes down to the beer, and Fonta Flora delivered in a big way. When you’ve drank enough beer and visited enough breweries, you tend to long for the days where you walked into the brewery and there was something new and exciting like an IPA on peaches...a simpler time when you weren’t a complete beer snob and were easily swooned by something different. Fonta Flora brought us back to those times and I am very appreciative of that. From their bold beet saison, to the world class coffee ipa, to the kiwi sour in chardonnay barrels, to the pine needle and wood chips saison...Fonta Flora isn’t afraid to swing for the fences and for our money, they’re really damn good at clearing it. Morganton should be proud to call this place their hometown brewery, it is everything I love about craft beer and everything craft beer should be...bold, inventive, welcoming, and really damn good.“

“Really enjoyable place to visit if you are in the area. The beers are well above average for a place of this size, and they offer a flight to allow sampling of a good number. I think they had 8-9 on my visit, and flights were of 5. Lots of local ingredients and fresh flavor. Had a pretty good crowd too on a Sunday afternoon. Only one bartender, and he seemed a little overwhelmed, but did a good job. I’d be very happy to a have local with this level of quality. Thanks to jcnielsen for recommending this place, it was very worth the stop over.“

“Visited on a Sunday afternoon. A small brewery located in a corner building near downtown Morganton. Probably 5-10 tables inside as well as a few outside, with a nice wood interior. Five beers on tap when I visited, 5-beer sampler flights are available. I was really impressed by this whole operation. The beers focus on locally grown ingredients and they can sometimes have some interesting combinations. When I visited they had a carrot ipa (which was quite good) and a beet saison (which wasn’t too bad, considering I hate beets). Overall, the beer quality was top-notch, and I enjoyed the hippie vibe that the place has. I look forward to coming back whenever I get the opportunity. No food is available at the location, but it sounds like you can bring in food. They also had a hard cider on tap as well as offering cold-pressed coffee and wine.

Note: After visiting here at least 10 times, this is easily my favorite brewery in North Carolina. Highly recommended that anyone visiting Asheville to make the stop here along the way.“

“Fonta Flora Brewery is a craft and specialty brewery offering unique selections. The taps change regularly and offer a wide variety of flavours for all palates. There is wine available as well as chips and dip for non beer drinkers or hungry beer fans. The space is small with seating for around 50. They regularly offer specialty food pairing events with local restaurants. I look forward to each new beer being launched.“
