“My 1000th place rating, and saved it for something special. This has been on my bucket list for some time, so am thrilled to be here. Well appointed taproom, has a neighborhood vibe. Large bar and scattered tables. Crazy selection of taps and to-go product. Destination brewery for sure“

“Wasn't expecting much, so I was quite thrilled that they have a large selection. Not much in the singles section, but tons of local 4 & 6 packs. The rest is same grocery chain vibe.“

“I finally got to visit this ridiculous place. When I visited, they had 24 taps, with an average ABV of 8.9%. So, be careful if you're driving. Everything is available in 5 oz pours, and staff are happy to give samples as well. They have an enormous list of cans and bottles to go, with copious amounts of heavy / BA stuff available in singles (some even in 8.45 oz cans!). Service is top-notch, friendly and quick. Though I didn't love every beer, I love what they're doing. Well-worth making a special trip to come here wherever you're coming from. It's that kind of place.“

“After work on a Wednesday and 10 people in Eighty Three Brewing. You can park on the road or the parking lot next to the building. Known as the east side this brewery is in the Goodyear section of Akron. Light are dimmed and big windows looking out at East Market Street keeps this place lit up. 16 beers on tap. And two bar maid that were friendly enough. Souvenirs including shirts and hats here. Beers to go also. Enjoying the radio and set at a nice volume. Pleasant place downtown to enjoy a beer. Cheers!“

“Magic City moved to this location over a year ago. Much bigger. Got food and t-shirts here 8 beers on tap. Lighting is good with big windows and drop lights. One bar tender and person running the kitchen. Kind of quite on a hot Wednesday afternoon. 4 booths and plenary of tables. Big parking lot. Always like coming here. Cheers!“

“At The Tap House on Saturday afternoon. About a dozen customers. Two bartenders and friendly. Got a bar area, tables and a spacious outdoor patio for your dogs to hang out in. Two dozen beers to choice from and beers Togo if you wish. Shirts and hats for sale here too. Lighting is pleasant. Service was good. All and all, I just love coming here. Cheers! “

“Saturday afternoon. Couple bartenders and 3 customers. 5 sours to choose from and a few packaged to go if you want. Small facility with the main brewery behind the Sour Haus and the main tap house just up the hill. One big garage door and light bulbs for lighting in this oversized garage. Everyone is very friendly and the service was great. No food here. I paid 6 bucks for my sour which is average in this area. Nice place to grab a sour. Cheers!“

“This place is huge. Old factory building, two stories tall. Two bars, only one in use today. Lighting is good with big windows and hanging lights. Bar maid was right on getting me a beer. Not too many people here since they just opened up. 17 beers on tap. 1 being a guest cider. Overall this place is awesome. Will be back. Cheers!“

“Great beer selection. Brewer doesn’t have a “good” IPA, but has taps with good IPAs from other brewers. Poor food, cramped tap room. Overall, very disappointed! Supposed to be in top 100 breweries. B.S., it was a brewery in modified storage lockers! Brews were high in ABV, but far too sweet. And, bring a deep pocketbook, the brews are the most costly of any brewery I have visited.“

“Interesting spot inside a huge building. Very small parking lot for maybe 10 cars. Maybe there is street parking closeby? Large open floorplan with a big bar in the middle. Fairly large selection of beers with good variety among them. The beer quality is pretty good as well. Friendly and attentive service sitting at the bar. I would visit again.“

“Industrial feeling place on the outskirts of Akron. Parking lot available. Decent sized place. Beer flights are available. The beers I tried were good, but overall they seem to focus too much on the IPA side of life for my preferences. Some people are into that though. Food is available, but I didn't have anything. I would visit again, as the beers I tried were good. Service is very friendly.“

“Popped in on a Tuesday and the place was packed with a business function. Big place with a hundred people here now. They have a patio here also. 12 beers on tap and the one I’m having is awesome. I had to go to the park to park the car cause parking lot was full. Just a short walk. Lighting is nice with dim hanging lights.service is good with 4 bartenders. I will be back here. Plenty of parking in front here on Main Street. Shirts and hats for sell. 16 of their own beers on tap. Plenty of televisions to watch sports. Nice place just south of downtown. Cheers!“

“Visited on a rainy Saturday afternoon around 2 PM. They have a parking lot that they share with another business. Actually getting into the building wasn't super intuitive, but I figured it out eventually. The main entrance is on the back of the building. They were about half full when I walked in, and stayed that way through the rest of my visit. I was here primarily to get something to eat, and I'm glad I came here. The menu was interesting. I opted for something a little less adventurous with a brisket sandwich, but it came with jalapeño snap pea slaw, and it was really good. The beer selection was good. Lots of variety with in the draft list. They offer flights, which I had one with a Lager, Tripel, Dunkelweizen, and Peanut Butter Porter. The girl working behind the bar was phenomenal. I don't know how she kept up with all the stuff she was doing and keeping the bar and tables with drink. She deserves recognition for sure! I would visit here again anytime. The food menu really spoke to me, and the beer was decent.“

“Visited on a rainy Saturday around 1 PM. Street parking was available. It was not busy at all. There was a couple sitting at the bar, and then me. Nobody else came during my visit, hopefully that is more to do with the weather, than it is anything else. Everything in here is ultra modern with clean white lines and metal. They have a lot of room in this place. On my visit they had about 12 beers on draft. I was worried they would have a bunch of different IPAs, but they also had a lot of other things like a Weizenbock, a Rye Saison, a plain Gose and Berliner. I didn't try the Berliner Syrups, but they had a pretty interesting selection, Lavender, Rose among them. The service was friendly and helpful. She checked up on me as often as I would want, and kept my water glass full, which is something I find important, but not everywhere tries to do this. Overall, I really enjoyed this place, and I hope they do well. The beers are pretty good, so I think that word will eventually get out. On my visit, they had only been open a few months. One item of note, the food menu is pretty limited to snacks or microwaved offerings. It would be nice to see something more in that realm, or a food truck if they don't want to mess with a kitchen.“

“Arrived at 5 PM on a Saturday and the place was almost full. Music was loud!!! As a result I felt a little rushed to get out. If I had had more time and the music wan’t blaring, I would have enjoyed trying the many beers on tap that I had never seen before. As it was, I bought a box of bombers to go.“

“Down in the valley as locals call this area, you have the National Park and local parks all around you. Big windows and plenty of lighting in the building. The service was wonderful and the girl did a great job on checking on me. Bar area could hold about 30 people and the back room hold another 20 people easily. R Shea's has 15 taps. They do crowlers, growlers, and have stuff canned also. Plenty of parking. I did not eat but they have a full menu. 5 Dollars a pint and 14 for Growler fills. Overall I love the place Cheers!“

“Located in an industrial park near Goodyear is one of the best breweries in the area. You may find a couple of draft only releases but the main draw here is the back catalog of nearly evey Hoppin' Frog release that is still commercially available. The atmosphere has a blend of tasting room and restaurant. Food offerings were excellent though not the main draw. Ample parking is available in the lot outside and you can also stock up on merchandise if you desire. If you're planning a trip to Akron this should be a must see destination before you hit up some of the newer breweries in the area.“

“This is on a busy downtown corner in Akron. It is a large open bar area with the brewing equipment open behind the bar. Weather permitting the space opens up to the sidewalk. They had 11 off their own beers on tap. No food and no guest taps. On a sleepy Sunday service was fine, but i can see this being chaotic on a busy night. The beers i had were fine.“

“(Visited 11/2015 and a couple times since): R. Shea is one of the newer wave of breweries to enter the Akron market, and is located on Merriman Road by Sand Run Metro Park north of downtown. The strip mall has plenty of parking.

The taproom opens to high table seating past the entrance, and a bar along the back wall. Additional seating is available past the bar to the left. Dark stone tiled floors, gray walls and hanging lights above the bar. Behind the bar are tanks, and placards for each of the beers on tap.

R. Shea has around 12 beers on tap, with a lot of rotating offerings and seasonals. On my visits the beers have included West Coast Citra IPA, Chocolate Coffee Stout, Peachy! Hefeweizen, The Perkins-Williams IPL, Cranberry Blonde and Orange Pineapple Habanero Shandy. Samplers are available, and the beers are consistently pretty good.

Service on my visits has been consistently good, and the owner is regularly there working behind the bar.

I have not had food on my visits.

Overall this is a solid brewery to visit in Akron. “

“Going to the Hoppin Frog tasting room was a good experience. I liked the feel of the place, it’s very relaxing. I thought the service was good and everyone was friendly. We sat at the bar. There was even a point were another server asked if I needed anything when my glass was dry. I really appreciated that. Good service. The selection was rather impressive. I have been a lot of places but it’s cool to see multiple bottles in the cooler for purchase that are years old and aging. You can purchase a bottle to go or crack it open at the bar, which was nice. The food was good and it’s one of those places where you see someone else eating and it looks great so you buy some food. I don’t regret that move. Anyways value not the greatest but considering what they have and how many different things that are on tap and the bottle prices its fair. Lastly if you are in the area try it out. It is a very damn good establishment. Try the tequila shandy, it’s a great and easy drinking brew with a ton of flavor and character.“

“If you are in the area go here. It is definitely one of those places that they will have something that you will want to try. The tap list is really interesting. I enjoyed the fact that no matter what was on tap, it was only $5 for a glass. The bartender was a good guy and very friendly. I found a few bottles. It wasn’t overwhelming and didn’t take me a half hour to hunt for what I wanted. I did in fact find a couple of things that I have been wanting to try, so for me it was a win. The prices on bottles are typical for a craft beer specialty store. Overall I would go back when I am in the area, awesome place.“

“(Visited 08/2015): Aqueduct Brewing is one of the newer breweries in Akron and is right next door to Thirsty Dog. Parking is available in a lot in front of the building as well as on the street.

The space in the large brick building occupied by Aqueduct is in the back corner, and there is an open space in front of the large garage door entrance. The taproom is open with tables past the entrance and a short bar against the back wall. Large flags hang from the ceiling, and the decor has a DIY/industrial feel with the exposed brick walls, stone floors and support columns. There is a large mirror behind the bar with their logo on it, and the taps are visible. The restrooms and brewery are in an adjacent area.

Aqueduct has around 6 beers on tap and a sampler is available. On my visit the selections included a Hefe, Osiris Belgian, Bast IPA, Oatmeal Stout, Silenus Stout and Poseidon’s Sour Pilsner. The beers were pretty average on the whole.

Service at the bar on a Saturday evening was good. The folks behind the bar were friendly and attentive.

Food is not served at Aqueduct.

Overall the quality of the beers here wasn’t quite what I hoped but I will definitely give them another chance on a future visit.“

“Dive bar atmosphere. They do have 69 taps, although I wouldn’t say they have 69 great taps (some of these include Bud, Coors, Labatt, etc.). They are pretty much all common beers you can get anywhere. As someone visiting from out of town, there are a few regional offerings such as Jackie O’s, Revolution, Rhinegeist, Rivertown. Happy hour price was under $5. I can’t say I’d go back but if you need a place to stop for a beer, you’ll find something you like on draft.“

“A nice bar in downtown Akron. When I was there, they had a Fat Heads takeover, roughly 10 Fat Heads taps plus you got a free glass with purchase of any Fat Heads beer! The beer list looked pretty solid. I had a Brew Kettle Chocolate Coconut Stout, and there were a few other beers I had my eyes on. They have a decent bottle list as well. I didn’t get any food, but the menu looked like standard pub fare. Overall it’s a place worth checking out if you’re downtown.“

“Located in a warehouse, not too pleasing from the outside (and a little confusing to get to!) but nice spacious inside. They have an extensive tap list and hopefully you brought a DD. Almost all beers are heavy hitters, alcohol wise, with several barrel aged beers on tap, imperial versions of most styles, and even their fruity wheat beer is 7%+! Nonetheless, there is plenty to choose from. I got a grapefruit IPA and coffee peanut butter chocolate porter, which were both delicious. They offer 5, 8 and 16 oz of most beers. There were 2 guest taps and a large bottle list, including vintage and special release beers. The food menu is small but gets the job done. I had the pulled pork nachos, which were a bit cheesy but tasty, and a chicken BLT wrap which was delicious. Pricing is on the high side, but to be expected with high alcohol beers. A great place to go in Akron.“

“The Hoppin’ Frog Tasting Room is located in the same small industrial park as the brewery, just across the main drag from the Akron Airport. Not much from the outside, and they keep it simple on the inside: A large center bar with seating on both sides, and tables on both sides as well. The atmosphere is cozy. All bottles are in the coolers behind the bar. The place had a single bartender on a quiet afternoon, and she was friendly and attentive. The food is fine, a limited menu of average quality stuff. Prices are fair. But the amount of beer available here is staggering- 20ish house taps, 2 guest taps, 75ish house bottles (when you account for multiple vintages of some) that are all available for on-site consumption and to go, and plenty of guest bottles, too. That’s where this goes from a good brewery to essential visit status. There’s just so much good Hoppin’ Frog stuff available. The quality of the beer is good, too. I’ll always come by if I’m in the area - which is unfortunately rare.“

“(Visited 06/2015): The Highland Square Mustard Seed location is on West Market and Portage Path west of downtown. The store has a dedicated parking lot in the rear.

The store is clean and well-lit, with the beer being located on shelves in the rear. There is also a cafeteria upstairs that features a bar and a few beers on tap.

Bottled selections include many from Akron and Ohio like Thirsty Dog, Hoppin’ Frog, Great Lakes and Brew Kettle. In addition there are many domestic craft breweries like Rogue, Stone, Founders and Sierra Nevada, as well as some imports. The bar upstairs has 6 taps and on my visit included a local brewer R. Shea.

Service both at checkout and at the bar was friendly.

I did not have any food on my visit.

“This is another one of the comfortable, welcoming tap rooms that are proliferating around Ohio. In a strip mall with plenty of parking, this place had a long bar, a few tables, and a side room with a TV and board games. He had a dozen of his beers on tap in a nice variety of styles, including some nitro taps. Samples, flights and growler are all available. Definitely worth a stop on your Akron/Canton beer tour.“

“Visited on a rainy Black Friday. The place is located in a strip mall type area away from the main drag. There is a parking lot that is shared with the other storefronts, but most seemed closed during my visit. The name is a bit deceiving. This place was recommended to my by a local, and I thought it was a brewery until I did some research on here. They actually have quite a large selection, I would guess closer to 500 or more to choose from with about half in refrigerated areas. Plenty of variety. I found several beers here I did not expect, and to say the least, I bought more than I anticipated. Of note, which I think may be a new addition, they have around 15 taps with flights available, or full pours if you so choose. There is a bar available to sit at, or you can peruse the beer while you sip. Since I bought more than 10 items, it also made me eligible to receive a free gift, which was a glass of my choosing. I picked a fun shaped Deschutes glass. I am really glad I was recommended this place, and I will be back for sure! Highly recommended.“

“Big gravel parking lot in the back. Went on a fairly busy Tuesday night, but far from full. Bar area when you first come in and a smaller beer garden in the back. I enjoyed the beer garden in the back on a summer evening. Only four entrees on the menu, but honestly I could have gone with any of them. My Cuban sandwich was a average portion and very good. Prices for the food were reasonable. They had a good selection of their beers plus some others. Prices for the beer are high. They have some rare bottles at inflated prices for take away.“

I liked that Fred where running around spinning plates and serving samples of special brews and talking to the guest. “Had a blast here on a quite busy Tuesday night. Got seated outdoors on the patio first, but it was really hot out there so we grabbed the chance to move inside when we got it. Good service all the way, and after a while the owner spent quite some time with us when he found out we were Europeans on a beer trip. Poured us a couple of specials too. Lots of good beers at Hoppin’ Frog, almost all north of 7% ABV, and we wanted to try everything possible so the next day was a bit unpleasant. Bottles to go option too. Be sure to stop by if you’re nearby.“

“I’ve been to Hoppin Frog 3 or 4 times. Always a great time. I see a lot of posts below bellyaching about ambiance, selection, prices, etc. Waaaa.... I base most of my rating on selection, service, and quality of beer. Ambiance is unique which I like. Service for me has always been superior. The selection is much more than most tasting rooms and the guests taps were significant. In addition you can buy copious amounts of bottles to go. Food I had once and the cuban sandwich was good. Overall value is solid. Fred Karm, the owner, is nearly always around greeting guests.“
