“Following Dayton Ale Trail. Nice selection of their own brews and really good food selection. Good conversation with bar tender and other patrons while working through a flight and a great brunch! Given the proximity to my regular hotel in the area, I'll make it a point to go back.“

“Stumbled in after trying some new brews and eating dinner next door. Had a nice chat with one of the owners and sampled some nice brews. Was introduced to the Dayton Ale Trail here and was very glad I did! Rather sterile, but a nice selection of their brews.“

“This is another of the strip mall store fronts. Plenty of parking though. It's a small place with a six seat bar and eight tables. Service is at the bar, and with most people getting flights the one server could have used help. They had six of their own beers on tap and a few local guest taps. No food but you can carry in. I found the beers hit and miss. Worth a stop for the ticks and the Dayton Ale Trail stamp.“

“Decent enough place that is like any higher end grocer. Beer selection had a nice variety but virtually no singles. A few bombers and smaller singlers from the likes of Jackie O's. Prices were okay. Not really a destination unless you are staying nearby. Such as I was 1 block away so convenience is really the best part of this place for the area.“

“Outside, you’re in a strip mall, inside it could be anywhere. Typical cleaned out area with concrete floors and bar to one side, tables to the other, brewing equipment (including wooden barrels) in the rear. The house brews are all average and better, the one appetizer we had was very good. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. So, it adds up to a positive experience.“

“This is a local high end grocery chain. They have a decent craft selection, mostly 4/6/12 packs but also a wall of bombers/750s/singles of many Belgians and other limited brews. As with the rest of DLM, this section is highly curated and while the overall selection isn’t all that large, they cover all the bases with the better available stuff. The beer section seems wedged into the wine section, which is a shame, but when this store was built the craft beer scene was still young and Dayton wasn’t over the top for it. Cases spill out of the alcohol department into the register area, which can sometimes make finding stuff difficult. They have a cafe that offers eight taps, each available in multiple sizes, from 8oz up to a 64oz growler, with many sizes in between. A very good option when in this part of town.“

“My wife and I stopped in after a trip to the nearby DMV. It’s located in a strip mall so from the outside it doesn’t look like much but they did a nice job decorating the interior. Not overly done up but nice relaxed decor. We didn’t have much time so I opted for the flight. I was kind of annoyed that they have a flight of 4 but had 5 house beers and no way to add the fifth. The bartender gave me a taste of the fifth, which was nice of him. The beers were solid but not outstanding. All were very drinkable and will garner no complaints from me. The place was pretty empty on the early afternoon we were there. The barkeep was friendly and quick. The other patrons were nice, too. They have a nice variety of guest taps and bottles to offer. Very enjoyable and friendly place. I’m sure I’ll be back.“

“Lock 27 Brewing is located in a shopping plaza on South Main in Centerville, south of Kettering. Parking is plentiful in the plaza.

There is a gated patio in front with an awning over it. Inside opens to table seating immediately past the entrance and along the right side. The bar is on the left and is adorned with different colors of wood. Opposite that is a brick wall with some historical photos. The brewery is visible behind glass in the rear. There is a large board behind the bar listing the available beers.

Lock 27 has around 12 beers on draught, half of which are theirs. On my visit this included Mouth Breather IPA, None More Black Imperial Stout, Beauregard, 1492 IPA and one of the Hop 101 series. Samplers are available, and the beers were decent overall.

Service on a Friday lunch at the bar was pretty good. The bartender was efficient and fairly knowledgeable about the beers.

As for food, I enjoyed my sandwich and the sauces offered with the fries were good.

All in all this is a worthwhile spot to hit in the Dayton area.“

“One of many strip-mall brewpubs/breweries we visited while in Ohio. Interior was nicely decorated and large windows in the back showed off the BrewMagic-like brewhouse they make their house beers with. Decent number of house beers but none of them really impressed me. There are also a handful of guest taps including the Rodenbach Grand Cru the owner really enjoys. The star of the show was definitely the food. Every item we ordered was absolutely outstanding and we loved all the various dipping sauces they had. If I came back, it would definitely be to eat here; new beers would just be a bonus.“

“This is a neat little brewpub in an aging strip mall. The food is very nice if a bit pricey. I went for lunch and the place was not crowded and got great service. Their beers are solid and they had nice guest taps, bottles and wine as well. Well worth the stop when touring Dayton area beer places.“

“In a strip mall, yeah. Easy parking, though. Looks very nice inside. Exposed brick from across the bar, and lots of nice wood all around. Service is pretty lame. I had to make an effort to get service from the bartenders the whole way through... Not once do they ask you how you’re doing at all. The owner was even standing at the bar the whole time talking to one dude, paid zero attention to every one else. The place was not that busy at all during 10pm on a Saturday night, I have a hard time finding an excuse for all of this. Pretty good selection of beers on tap.. 4 house brews that were all solid, and a very nice selection of 6 guest brews. The price of the flight of house brews was very reasonable, but these guys would absolutely not do anything more than 1oz of any of the guest brews. When I offered to pay for a full 4oz pour, they declined.... Really weird, and a poor attitude from the bartender who I was dealing with (said something akin to how they weren’t going to do 100 tasters of everything I wanted... a strange remark when there are only 10 beers on tap). Overall, the house beers, decor, and guest beer selection was very good, but the service really turned me off... Final score is very fair, I think...“

“Located in a strip mall in Centerville, it isn’t much from the outside. But the inside is cool, modern, and clean. The bartender and brewer were both cool and helpful and friendly. They had four house beers on tap along with 10 or so other really impressive beers. They have a food menu but we didn’t parttake. The beers were good, and prices are in line with the rest of the area. I’ll definitely be back here when I get a chance. I liked this place a lot.“

“We went to this place by suggestion. Their beers were below average. The food was good but way over priced. The cheese plate was $14 and all you got was five little piles of cheese crumbs. Service was lousy. We had to ask for service, the check, etc. Two thumbs down!“

“Stopped in for lunch and some samples, and am glad I did. Beers are solid, but the food is great (get the seasoned wings!). Service was good, as was the beer list (they only had 4 of their own, but had a guest tap list as well). Worth the trip.“

“A decent beer selection in what is mostly a wine or liquor/party supply store. A couple shelves of singles and bombers with six packs in the beer cave. All the mainstream stuff but a solid selection of craft beers, too. They also have about five taps available for growler fills. They had a couple Dayton Beer Co. ales on as well as more national brands. I like that addition to the store- really ups their game. A solid place and really good for the area.“

“Stopped in for a couple beers. Really impressed. Great beers on tap. Most are rare. Wish I could have more than 2 beers. Clean. Nice atmosphere. Terrific food! Best part was the service. They weren’t shy about giving out samples. VERY friendly.“

“As others alluded, they have a lot of hard to find and rare beers. But they don’t get a lot of turnover so some of their inventory has sat for some time . When I went there yesterday, I noticed a six pack of Sam Smiths Winter Welcome on the shelf -- with a 2006/2007 date. So if you are looking for anything were freshness counts -- check the bottle date before buying. Also, front of the store is all glass windows that let’s in a lot of light. Most of the beers are kept toward the back away from the window, but it’s not exactly ideal cellar conditions. Finally, comparing prices, they are typically a dollar or two more expensive than other beer stores in the area. On the plus side, they do now accept credit cards, and the people who work there are typically friendly and will help you find what you’re looking for.“

Sweeney’s Seafood (Restaurant)
28 WEST FRANKLIN STREET
“Seafood Restaurant in the outskirts of Dayton that is easily missed. They have a really nice bar that seats about 15 people (plus the restaurant area that seats a whole to more). It’s a great place to have a quiet draught or two, and a good meal if you’re hungry. They have 6 rotating taps of craft beers, and they typically get some quality beers that you might not find elsewhere. Typically have 2-3 IPA’s or pale ale’s and at least 1 stout or porter. Doug is normally the bartender and extremely knowledgeable regarding beers. The only thing they are lacking is a larger selection and more seating at the bar (but then it wouldn’t have the nice quiet ambience that makes this place special).“

“Mainly a wine and liquor store, but they have a good, but not great beer selection. Normally have main beers from the brewers but they seldom get limited edition or special offerings from the brewers. Also have some gourmet deli type food (cheese, crackers, etc.) if your hosting a party & need some quick snacks. The best part of the place however, is the beer tasting events, every Friday from 5-7. Normally have 5 or so craft beers at a nominal fee, great opportunity to taste new offerings or the latest seaonals.“

“This place is very easy to miss in downtown Centerville. So her it goes. Walk in, turn right down the center aisle, now it’s go time! I hoped you packed your hiking boots and GPS cause this place is a certified mess! IMO that just adds to the character. KUDOS to the people running this place for getting behind good beer, a lot of places this size would not even bother trying to put out this much sweet nectar. Real gems are to be had here, when Belmont runs out, chances are this place will have it. You have to do quite a bit of searching but that is half the fun. I recommend moving bottles, looking in corners, and not believing everything you see. This is my go to store anytime I’m in CVILLE. An amazing assortment of anything and everything one can get in Ohio. Give yourself an hour and a half to shop and you won’t be disappointed!!“

“A cluttered mess is probably the best way to describe this shop. Some really nice stuff you can’t find elsewhere in Dayton, though, you just have to be prepared to hunt. Beer hides other beer behind it and there is no rhyme or reason, except the couple country sections. The huge downer about this place is you can’t make a mixed six-pack. If you could do that I would be here just as often as Belmont but since you can’t I will stay a regular at Belmont and a casual customer here. Still, nice selection overall.“

I gotta hand it to the guys at Centerville Carryout. They must read the ratings on here or something because the place is pretty much completely cleaned up. Most of the clutter on the ground has been removed. I can actually look around for beer without breaking an ankle!
Everything is organized on the shelves and it looks like they are trying hard to continually get new, rare, beers in stock. And if you ask nicely, they might just let you browse around in the back walk in cooler, where you never know what you’re going to find. Nice job guys!

[March 2009] I can’t believe no one has added this place yet. It’s easily one of the best beer stores in the area, at least as far as beer selection. I’d say it’s second to Belmont Party Supply, but they do tend to have beers in stock here that Belmont does not. However, the biggest downfall of this place is that I feel like I should be wearing hiking gear and a camelbak. It’s the most unorganized store I think I’ve ever seen. Basically a garage sale of beer. But navigating the narrow aisles cluttered with boxes of random beers on the ground is well worth what you might find. I’ve found so many rare/odd beers here that I couldn’t find anywhere else. Definitely worth checking out.
