| 62 /100 Village Inn (Restaurant) 102 GASKIN AVE. “Food is not very good and is overpriced. The beer selection is pretty descent. The atmosphere is much more acceptable than the more fratty dive bar (The Gambier Grill) down the street. It has a nice brass bar top with a great wood motif throughout that makes it very cozy, especially on winter nights. That it isn’t (usually) crowded with loud drunk students is a perk. The value isn’t particularly great, but not horrible. The service is fine, but no one that works there knows anything about beer as far as I have experienced. Worth a stop if your in Gambier.“ |
| 28 /100 Gambier Grill (Bar) 100 E. BROOKLYN ST “This is a dingy dive bar for Kenyon College students (which I am) and some Gambier/Mt. Vernon locals. There are 6 taps, but only one or two are reserved for "craft" beers, which are mostly Sam Adams or other nearly-macro beers. Their bottle selection offers more of a craft ratio, but "dead guy" is probably their most exotic option, which should sum up for you guys how the selection goes. The atmosphere is shit. A dingy bar with bad lighting and no lights. Rednecks and drunken college students. Though I am part of the later, I have an excuse, I’m a college student; thus, I wouldn’t suggest any of you respectable adults visit this place. Go to the Village in a mere 100 yards away or the Kenyon Inn a mere 200 yards away. The value is nothing to bat an eyelash at either... except with the pitchers or macros. Food is alright for bar food, but its all overpriced IMO. I like diver bars, but I would never go to this one if I didn;t go to Kenyon.“ |

That’s not saying much, but they get credit for trying new things on the menu. The beer selection is definitely back, with a good selection on tap and the cooler well-stocked with micros like it was a few years ago. Still feel like drinking in your friend’s dad’s basement, though.“ |
| 76 /100 The Village Market (Grocery Store) 112 GASKIN AVE “Only little grocery store in Gambier with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. The owner Bob is a pretty fantastic guy who knows his beer and beer gear. He was also generous to me by donating his famous Keystone Light bike to a charity raffle. Beer there: bombers of Avery, Stone, Bear Republic and I forget some of the others and also a decent wine selection. Food is somewhat limited but it’s a small space catering to Kenyon kids and very small local community.“ |

| 58 /100 The Village Market (Grocery Store) 112 GASKIN AVE “Gambier is not one of the major cities listed on RB it is a small college town home to Kenyon college and it rests about 45 minutes east of Columbus. The village market is a one stop market/deli and it offers the best selection in the area by far. Not a huge selection but rotating pretty often, so one can always find something they haven’t tried before (at least nearly everyone). Have plenty of west coasters like lagunitas and stone and always have the (somewhat) local Great Lakes and Columbus Brewing as well as other big boys like Bells, Anchor, Brooklyn, SN, Rogue, Goose Island, Bear Republic, Fullers, Sam Smiths, Magic Hat, Sam Adams, Two brothers, DFH, Clipper City, Moylands, New Holland, and more. I recently got a Hanssens Oude Gueuze there, which was a surprising find for me. Prices are a bit higher than my hometown of Louisville, but not ridiculous by any means. Haven’t talked to anyone there about beer, but I hear the guy who orders it known plenty about every beer he orders. Other staff are very down to earth and friendly. Definitely worth a stop when in the area. This is the ONLY stop in the area (take note you RB Kenyon students or parents).“ |
