“Friday afternoon at Olentangy River Brewing near Columbus Ohio Good sized crowd in here with only two bartenders. Sat down at the bar but it seems I had to wait in a medium sized line to get served. Food truck outside. 17 beers on tap and beers to go waiting in the fridge. Parking lot was full and I parked on the road. Finally got served. They have a bar, tables, and, patio here to drink bar on. Place seems pretty good for being in on industrial park. Cheers!“

“Good, pretty small selection. Not worth driving out of your way to. Bigger focus on wine and cigars.“

“Dedicated parking right in front (exactly where From the Vine was). Low quantity, but high quality selections. The guy there was very helpful. Better than average beer display. Had some interesting bottles available.“

“Stopped in here later on a Friday evening. There is a dedicated parking lot, so parking was not an issue. When we arrived, my wife and I were the only two customers in the shop. Their beer selection is about medium sized with maybe 200-250 bottles to choose from. They have a build your own section, a cooler section, and a few shelves with bigger bottles and the more expensive smaller bottles. I built a 6 pack and bought a bottle of a Grassroots beer I didn’t realize made it to Ohio and got out of there for around $25. Pricing was definitely reasonable. I wold come here again if I was in the area.“

“Formerly From the Vine. The place is now focused a lot more on craft beer and the conversation is a lot more focused on the beer. The selection has increased and includes some nice and hard to find locals, problem is that the stuff flies off the shelf. A gem of a store; I will stop every time I am in Columbus. The staff knows and can talk beer and the selection is fresh and interesting.“

“This place is awesome. I’ve been able to pick up beer here that I could find nowhere else. They definitely have one of the best beer selections in Columbus. The owner is often there answering questions and chatting about beer. I’m not a wine drinker but they seem to have a good selection. TRIFECTA!!!“

“Some go for quantity but Aficianado’s goes for quality! They are not the biggest store in Columbus, however, almost every beer they sell is absolute quality! Kevin, Starr and Michael are all friendly, engaging, willing to offer suggestions as well as take any special requests (if possible, they will do their best to accommodate). Regularly scheduled tastings where distributors and brewers will come in and share insights on the beers and respond to questions. Convenient location in Lewis Center / Polaris area and worth stopping in and checking out whenever you are in the area!“

“Great place located in Lewis Center. Their biggest asset is the service. Kevin and his wife Starr are great people. Kevin is more on the beer side and for a guy who didn’t know much about beer going into this business, he’s been eager to learn from distributors and customers alike. Very good selection of beers and they make good use of the limited space available. If they don’t have it and it’s orderable, they’ll bring it in for you.“

“Have visited this wine/craft brew store many times including their weekly tastings. Certainly an above average craft brew selection. Uses ratebeer ratings displayed for brews which is a great help and the staff knows their stuff. Been to several tastings which are way above average with a nice array of paired foods.“

“This is a local shop in the Polaris area that’s about equally split between beer and wine, and also sells cigars. Fairly modern vibe. One and a half aisles of beer, densely stocked, with coolers running down one side of the main beer aisle. For me, Aficionados is all about the service. I really enjoy going in regularly just to chat with Kevin, Star & Michael. They always take time to suggest new things, or just hang out and shoot the breeze. New arrivals are conveniently displayed on a table, and posted online via Facebook and Twitter. They get a great selection, focused entirely on high-quality beers. I used to drive around town searching out the latest releases, but now I just follow Aficionados online, and check in regularly to see what’s new. Pretty much any special release that hits the other big stores in Columbus will also show up at Aficionados.“

“Great local brew shop with an excellent selection and fantastic service. Everyone on staff is knowledgeable and offer excellent recommendations. If you want something they don’t carry, they will go above and beyond to get it for you. Aficionado’s is a true asset to the Polaris area.“

“Went on a Saturday afternoon. Shop at the end of a strip mall. Wine/Beer, with the beer mostly on the right side of the place. Open, with shelves and coolers towards the back. Very nice selection, some Belgian breweries I have not seen in other stores. Price is a little high, but the selection, for the Columbus area was good. I would like to see a more diverse group of domestics, but overall a good beer store.“

“(Visit weekly, but last time was 1/30/13) Aficionado’s is managed and run by their owners Kevin and Star. Their store offers an increasingly good selection of beers of which the majority have scores on Ratebeer of over 90. Kevin makes your selection easy, by indicating the Ratebeer rating under each beer. Since opening a few months ago they have greatly improved the asthetics of the store, the quality of beers offered, and have had numerous tastings with great turn outs. They have a mailing list which I recommend you get on. They use this list to notify customers of special beers that have arrived and any planned beer tasting events. Afcionado’s also offers a good selection wines and cigars.“

Kroger - Lewis Center (Grocery Store)
6417 COLUMBUS PIKE
“This Kroger has the distinction of being very close to our house so we are there pretty much every week. It is in a shopping plaza off Rte 23 (Columbus Pike) and Lewis Center. There is a large parking lot in the plaza.

The store is laid out pretty much the same as any other Kroger. The beer selection is located conveniently in coolers front and center, near the registers. They do occasionally do floor displays elsewhere too.

As seems to be the trend nowadays, the beer selection is solid for a grocery chain. Ohio brewers like Great Lakes, CBC, Hoppin’ Frog and Thirsty Dog are represented, as are domestic micros like Ballast Point, Oskar Blues, Southern Tier, Stone and Rogue. Macros and more common imports take up the rest of the space, and they have a few Belgians too. Mix and match make-your-own sixer are another option.

Service is pretty standard for a grocery store. If someone is in the area they will ask if you need anything, and checkout is always friendly.

Kroger has a cafe as well but no food rating as I am not sure you are allowed to drink beer on premise.

All in all grocery stores are giving specialty shops a run for their money more and more. While not a destination spot, the convenience and price make it an easy bet for regular beer shopping.“

“(Visited 12/2012): Aficionado’s opened recently, occupying the space formerly taken by From The Vine which in my opinion was one of the best beer stores on the north side. There is a good-sized parking lot in front of the plaza.

The interior is laid out with the beer on shelves and in coolers in the right rear of the store. The rest of the space is devoted to wine.

The beer selection is pretty good. Ohio breweries like Elevator, GLBC, CBC, Hoppin’ Frog and Thirsty Dog are in stock, as are domestic craft brewers such as Bruery, Stone, Rogue and Victory.

Service on my first visit was good. The owner was out on the floor talking with customers and the checkout person was friendly. They also do periodic tastings and events (an ’08-’12 Vertical Epic tasting recently for example).

Overall this is a good store to have in the area, and I am glad they are invested in promoting craft beer.“

“Aficionado’s was previously called From The Vine. New owners are adding a large walk-in beer cooler and plan to DOUBLE the craft beer selection! The had Stone Enjoy By, and Bell’s 11, but most were already on reserve. Great place.“
