74 /100 109 S MAIN ST This is in the back of the same building the restaurant is in. Larger bar and a few tables. Same food menu but larger bar. Twelve of their beers and another dozen of good guest beers on tap along with shitty macro bottles and lots of liquor. Still not a destination, but a must stop if you find yourself stuck here. |
78 /100 109 S MAIN ST. This is a large refurbished space in downtown Mt Vernon. Lots of nearby street parking. They had eight of their own beers on tap, which were fine. They also had some guest beers, wine and a full bar. The menu was heavy on smokehouse fare. I guess they do their own smoking. I had the chicken with house sauce and it was really good. The beans were amazing. Not really a beer destination, but a nice place for a dinner and a beer if in the area. |
22 /100 Kroger - Mount Vernon (Grocery Store) 855 COSHOCTON AVE is this seriously on RB? Just goes to show how shit the Gambier/Mt. Vernon beer scene is. This Kroger offers some craft 6 packs (magic hat, Columbus, Great Lakes, thirsty dog, sam adams, sarnac, and other ohio beers and almost-macro "crafts"). But, let me tell you... the ambiance is AWESOME!!! |
28 /100 Kroger - Mount Vernon (Grocery Store) 855 COSHOCTON AVE Supermarket - mostly stocks the megabrews and big imports, but they have a growing number of regional micros like Columbus Brewing, Great Lakes and some of the big micros, like Rogue. |
58 /100 Henry’s at the Curtis Inn (Restaurant) 6 PUBLIC SQUARE I’ve been here under about 3 different managers/chefs, and the selection of bottled beers has always been impressive - a wide selection of micros and imports, and different from the other restaurants in the county. (And the selections on tap have always been a couple of macrobrews.) The Indian food has generally been very good, if a bit pricey. (Although Mount Vernon does now have a second Indian place.) On the other hand, the service has been what you might charitably call relaxed. Let me spell it out - I’ve never had service I thought was "fast" - usually attentive, often friendly, sometimes really helpful. But not a place to go if you don’t have time to kill. |
62 /100 Henry’s at the Curtis Inn (Restaurant) 6 PUBLIC SQUARE Not the best beer stop by any means, but I added it for anyone who is traveling in the area. It is one of two places within the Mt. Vernon/Gambier area that provides a descent number of micro’s to choose from (the other place being The Village Market in Gambier, which is already listed on RB). The beers are mostly regional micros with some out of state beer and some imports (up to 10 different Great Lakes brews, Saporro, Erie Brewing stuff, Young’s, Sierra Nevada, Paulaner, and some more typical stuff). Although I didn’t see any of it last night, I had a Rogue I2PA there last year. The real reason I go to this place is for the Indian food. This area of Ohio is not very culturally diverse at all, and Henry’s provides a nice little gem of an Indian restaurant. Descent prices (20 dollars without tip for a full entree, an appetizer, and a microbrew). Big meal portions, nice wait staff and owners (though neither know much about beer), good service. If |
