86 /100 7253 WHIPPLE AVE NW Big parking lot for Shale brewing in North Canton, Ohio. 16 beers on tap with a refrigerator full of crowlers to go. Got t-shirts and hats 5 bartenders here for a Friday evening. Beer seems good here Lighting is dim with big windows. Have pizza here big bar space and plenty of table. Nice visit to Shale Brewing. Cheers! |
84 /100 6305 WHIPPLE AVE. NW 7 Barrel barrel brewery here. Codex Brewing is in North Canton, Ohio. 11 taps offering there own beer. Plenty of places to set including the bar. They have a patio here also. Souvenirs here with hats and shirts. Crowlers to go here. No growlers. Rock on the radio with dim lights and big windows.Bartenders are very known. No food here. Chips for sale. Very nice place to grab a beer. Cheers! |
92 /100 7253 WHIPPLE AVE NW Visited on a Friday around 6:30 pm. Dedicated parking lot in a strip mall in a more industrial part of Canton. About 10 minutes from Belden Village. Inside the place is huge. Could easily have 150+ people. Large draft list on an electronic board above the bar. Pretty good selection of beer. Beer flights are offered, plus a choice of pint or 5 ounce servings. Quality of the beer was fair to midland. I did like their variety of styles. Service was awesome. They do offer food like pizzas, sandwiches, and salads. Prices were decent. I would check this place out again. |
60 /100 Discount Drug Mart - North Canton (Grocery Store) 1695 N MAIN STREET Visited on a Sunday mid morning. Dedicated parking lot close to various other stores. It is in a bit of a strip mall type area of town. I was actually surprised to see they carried beer at all. But they do, and are doing a decent job of it. Only downside is everything is full six packs. No options to break them up into build your own, so I didn't end up buying anything, but the beers they carried were interesting. Would have purchased something if I could do a build your own, but that's alright. I was just happy to see they carried good beer at all. |
60 /100 Fishers Foods - North Canton (Beer Store) 8100 CLEVELAND AVE NW Visited on a Sunday morning around 10 AM. The beer section is located on the right side of the store and has its own entrance. Big parking lot. Selection was mostly local Ohio brands with a few regional and nationwide brands to choose from. There is a limited build your own six pack section that I utilized. Service at checkout was friendly. |
76 /100 Table Six Kitchen + Bar (Restaurant) 6113 WHIPPLE AVE A fun bar/restaurant in North Canton. Located in a strip mall setting. There is a large bar, plenty of indoor seating, also outdoor seating. The tap list is decent, probably 15 taps, focused on Ohio breweries (Zaftig, Canton, Market Garden, North High). The food menu is great. It is designed for you to order small plates that everyone can share. I had potato soup and lobster tacos, both delicious. They also have these dessert jars which are phenomenal, highly recommended!! Overall, great food, nice tap list featuring local beers. |
74 /100 Earth Fare - North Canton (Grocery Store) 3939 EVERHARD ROAD NW Visited this place on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The store is located in a strip mall near Belden Village in North Canton. Huge parking lot, so there should never be an issue there. They have a patio out front, but it’s only for eating the food you can get from their hot bar/salad bar or drinking coffee from their coffee shop. The beer selection is all bottles and cans. They have a pretty nice selection of local Ohio offerings from the likes of Hoppin Frog, Platform, Thirsty Dog, Great Lakes, and so on. Most items are in their original 4/6 pack, but they do have a cooler on an end cap that is for building your own 6 pack. Most items in the 4/6 packs are already in the cooler and can be bought individually, or as part of the build your own pack. There were a few items I was curious about breaking down from a 4 pack, but I couldn’t track anybody down to find out if that was okay, or not. Maybe next time. Regardless, I was able to put something together I was happy with, and I would gladly come back here again. One area for improvement I would like to see is a draft beer area. That would be pretty nice for the area. |
50 /100 2175 E MAPLE RD Crowded inside very noisy Food not as good as yesteryear. Outside small but nice Selection is solid Good place to go just competition has picked up over the years |
64 /100 BJs Restaurant & Brewhouse - North Canton (Restaurant) 6476 STRIP AVE. NW Located in a strip mall area of town. Plenty of parking with it’s own dedicated lot. Visited on a Friday night, and they were packed. Got a table quickly, though. Service was a bit slow, but at least the server was friendly and kept us updated and drinks in front of us. The food just took a little while. Beer was mediocre, but they had a large selection of styles and several from other craft breweries if you want something a little better. Glassware is suitable to the style you order. I would come back, but maybe try for a less popular time. |
68 /100 Giant Eagle - North Canton (Washington Square) (Grocery Store) 1955 E MAPLE ST (Visited 04/2015): Giant Eagle’s North Canton location is in a shopping plaza on the corner of Maple and Market. There is a large parking lot in front of the store. They have recently added a growler station with around 6 taps in the cafe on the left side of the store, where they fill pints as well. Breweries like Great Lakes, Canton Brewing and Brooklyn are regularly on tap. The bottled and canned options are on the right end of the store both on shelves and in coolers, segmented geographically for the most part. Many Ohio breweries are included like Brew Kettle, Thirsty Dog, Rhinegeist, Columbus Brewing and Fat Head’s. Many other domestic and imported craft beer and Meads as well. There is a limited selection of make-your-own six-pack bottles too. Service is about what you would expect for a chain grocery store. The guy at the growler station was very friendly although not too knowledgeable about the beers he was pouring, and I am typically asked if I need any help while browsing bottles. I haven’t had any of the cafe food at Giant Eagle. Overall this store stocks a pretty good beer list both on tap and in bottles for a grocery and I can usually find something worthwhile. |
78 /100 2175 E MAPLE RD Dedicated parking right in front. Tables on the right, L-shaped bar on the left, and beer garden on the left just past the bar. Wednesday for lunch not really that bury. Descent beer selection and good prices for a bar. Service was good and Carolina BBQ sandwich was great. About half the size of the Winking Lizard across town. |
66 /100 Cost Plus World Market - North Canton (Grocery Store) 5527 DRESSLER ROAD, NW Plenty of dedicated parking right in front. The atmosphere is similar to the Glen Allen World Market. Nice variety of singles. Prices are reasonable. The girl checking me out was nice. |
58 /100 Giant Eagle - North Canton (Belden Village Strip) (Grocery Store) 6493 STRIP AVE NW Big grocery store (part of a big shopping area) with plenty of dedicated parking. The beer is in the back right. There is a beer cave. A small section where you can create your own mixed six-pack, not that many beers are available for this. Pricing was quite reasonable. Not bad for a grocery, but honestly there is no reason there cannot be more beers available in the create your own six-pack. |
62 /100 Giant Eagle - North Canton (Washington Square) (Grocery Store) 1955 E MAPLE ST Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon after a visit to the Winking Lizard across the parking lot. Of course, it has it’s own dedicated parking lot, so that should never be an issue. The beer, liquor, and wine section has it’s own store entrance. The beer section has about 3 aisles, a walk in cooler, and access to maybe 10 cooler doors. The selection was alright, with the highlights being a small selection of Timmerman’s lambics and maybe 30 beers available for mixed six packs. Most of their selection is tied up in full six packs. Their selection was alright, but I couldn’t find enough I wanted to be able to build a six pack, so left with nothing. |
68 /100 2175 E MAPLE RD Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and the place was fairly busy. The parking lot in the front of the building was pretty full as well. Did not have to wait for a table, but it looked like it was the last one available when we arrived. Service was quick, their beer list was only a little outdated, and the server was knowledgeable, especially about the replacement beers. That was cool. I ordered a 4 beer sampler and the dry rub wings. Our food came out quickly and was tasty pub grub type food. Of the Winking Lizard locations in Canton, I like this one better. It is still a sports bar, but it is more cozy than the other one. Of note, it is less than half the size of the other one, so it is probably always packed. The beer selection was just as good in this location as the other canton location, but with maybe fewer bottles. Tap handles seemed comparable and of equal quality. For two meals, an appetizer, a flight, and a mixed drink, the total came to about $40, tip included. |
80 /100 Erik’s Grocery Bag (Grocery Store) 835 E MAPLE ST. Imo, the best bottle shop in the Canton area. Excellent selection, always fresh, and reasonable prices. |
76 /100 2175 E MAPLE RD (Visited 05/2013): Winking Lizard’s relatively new North Canton location is in a shopping plaza on the corner of E Maple and Market near Hoover Park. Parking is plentiful in the plaza. The inside opens to a fairly cramped restaurant and bar area in the first room. Typical Winking Lizard motif with lots of TVs, beer and sports decor etc. There is a patio outside as well. The beer menu at Winking Lizard is pretty uniform across their locations. There are around 50 draught options with brewers like Great Lakes, Brooklyn, Stone, Green Flash and Bells represented. They also have monthly rotating taps for certain brewers. As for bottles there are over 100 with domestic brewers like Anchor, Great Lakes, Rogue, Ommegang and Southern Tier. They also do a rotating "bottles for two" program with larger bottles like Bruery and 3 Floyds. Several imports too from Belgium, Germany, Italy and the UK. Service at the bar proved a pretty good knowledge of beer, and the bartender was efficient and friendly. Winking Lizard is also popular for their World Tour of Beers, which rewards customers for trying a variety of brews. The menu at Winking Lizard is large, including salads, sandwiches, pizza, wings etc. Solid options, and they do seasonal menus too. Overall there are pros and cons to a chain like this. It is a good spot to try beers and they have good food, but be prepared for it to be loud in a sports bar/family restaurant way. |
62 /100 Giant Eagle - North Canton (Belden Village Strip) (Grocery Store) 6493 STRIP AVE NW Stopped in late on a Friday night. The place didn’t have very many customer’s, but they were all headed to the beer and wine section. Selection was pretty nice. They had stone, unibroue, goose island, orval, 21st amendment, and so on. The beer cave had some unexpected goodies as well. Prices were reasonable. Service was nonexistent, but none was really needed. Well laid out. I wish my local giant eagle had this type of beer section. |
64 /100 Cost Plus World Market - North Canton (Grocery Store) 5527 DRESSLER ROAD, NW This place is pretty interesting. They seem to have a little bit of everything: furniture, glassware, toys, foreign candy, beer, wine, cheese. You name it, they probably have it. What I really like about this store, is that you can build your own six or four packs. If the beer you want isn’t on the "build your own" shelf, you’re allowed to take one out of its 4/6 pack so long as you put the rest on the by the "build your own" shelf. How great is that?! The store is located in a strip mall type area so parking is abundant. The workers seemed to me to be fairly pleasant. I didn’t try to talk beer with any of them, but I don’t usually do that anyway. I’m sure if I asked for help, I would have gotten it. The day I was in there, they were having a wine tasting that also happened to include Chimay Blanche, so that leads me to believe they take their beer pretty seriously. I would definitely stop in this store again if I’m in the area. I spent a good hour or so just strolling through the aisles. |
70 /100 Erik’s Grocery Bag (Grocery Store) 835 E MAPLE ST. (Visited 08/2010): Another place I have passed dozens of times without ever considering there would be a good beer selection inside. The "Over 300 Varieties of Beer" part of their sign outside was a good clue though. The store is on East Maple between Cleveland and Main and Market. There is a small lot out front that seems to be enough for the constant flow of customers.
The place looks like a typical convenience store both inside and out, except for the small deli counter and coolers full of beer in the back of the store. There is also a shelf with imports at room temperature.
The beer selection is pretty solid, and there are a ton of singles available to mix your own six pack. Some of the domestic micros they carry include Hoppin’ Frog, Great Lakes, Tröegs, Two Brothers, Ithaca, Lagunitas, Rogue, Stone, and many more. As for imports there are the typical selections from the UK, Germany and Ireland plus a few Belgians and a really thorough batch from Russia.
Service was good on a Saturday afternoon.
Overall this place is definitely worth a stop for a beer lover. One minor ding is the dating on some of the beer seems suspect. I am frankly unsure how they support the craft beer selection because as I shopped, customer after customer came to the beer aisle grabbing cases of Natty Light or whatever. Either way this is definitely a place to seek out when in North Canton. |
70 /100 Erik’s Grocery Bag (Grocery Store) 835 E MAPLE ST. Nice store good selection. Chewy is great he hooked me up with some nice beers and the sevice is friendly. Pretty good assortment of belgains among others. |
60 /100 Erik’s Grocery Bag (Grocery Store) 835 E MAPLE ST. This is the second best place to grab bottles in Canton. Chewy does a great job at varying the selection of beer they have and the inventory turns quick enough that you can find something new every week or so. The downside is the quality of selection. While it is great for someone getting into craft beer and always offers something new I find myself often asking"Why would you order this from XXX brewery when there flagship beer is XXX?" I know this has a lot to do with the distributors and their unwillingness to supply small bottle shops with the great stuff. I will say though I always walk out of Erik’s with something. |
52 /100 Acme (Beer Store) 1474 N. MAIN ST. Best selection of Canton’s chain grocery stores; features a pretty good variety of 4/6-packs and bombers. Many local beers you might not find elsewhere (Buckeye Brewing Co, Brew Kettle) are always in stock here. Small selection of singles too; I believe this is a relatively new feature as of my review so this may be expanded in the future. |
72 /100 Erik’s Grocery Bag (Grocery Store) 835 E MAPLE ST. Erik’s has the best selection of beer you’ll find in Canton, Ohio. One of the back walls of the shop is a row of coolers, with about 50% of allotted space being given to singles. Lots and lots of Bell’s and Flying Dog, along with many Belgians and a varied selection from across the United States. Some bottles may sit for a while, but the selection does seem to update quickly along with the seasons. Recently, and somewhat unexpectedly, found Bruery Saison de Lente here, so stop in and see if something catches your eye. |
50 /100 Giant Eagle - North Canton (Belden Village Strip) (Grocery Store) 6493 STRIP AVE NW Decent selection of beer in 4/6packs and bombers. Not sure how fast much of it moves, but worth a look in case any far-regional beers are in. |
40 /100 Giant Eagle - North Canton (Washington Square) (Grocery Store) 1955 E MAPLE ST Some craft six packs, mostly from Great Lakes, Stone, Sierra Nevada, Harpoon, and Dogfish Head. Unibroue and occasionally Founders can be found on a little unrefrigerated shelf in front of the liquor store. Walk-in cooler has a few bombers, from Stone, Samuel Smith, Chimay, and Ommegang. But, if you’re in the area and looking for a better beer selection, Erik’s Grocery Bag is only a minute or two west on Easton/Maple. |
50 /100 Cost Plus World Market - North Canton (Grocery Store) 5527 DRESSLER ROAD, NW Decent selection of regionals/locals, imports, and a few various micros from around the country (most notably North Coast). I suspect most of the time beer sits on the shelves for a while, but before Christmas everything was moving and the beer shelves halfway bare (maybe January is the time to go). |
56 /100 Cost Plus World Market - North Canton (Grocery Store) 5527 DRESSLER ROAD, NW They have a diverse selection of beers here, albeit a rather small and limited selection. Having said that, North Canton doesn’t have much in the way of any one store having a good selection. The prices are nominal and they have a good selection of glasses. The beers they do have are mostly quality craft beers or imports. You have to watch out for the dates though, their stock seems to not rotate very quickly. |
48 /100 Acme (Beer Store) 1474 N. MAIN ST. For the area, it’s not too bad. It’s a grocery store with a decent selection of different beers and other alcoholic beverages. The bomber selection is, again, pretty decent considering. The value is pretty spot on, not too high, not insanely low. It’s just down the road from me, so it’s a regular stop for me. If it wasn’t, I don’t think I’d frequent it. |
76 /100 Giant Eagle - North Canton (Belden Village Strip) (Grocery Store) 6493 STRIP AVE NW Pretty cool stop for brew , decent selection but watch the freshness dates! |
62 /100 Cost Plus World Market - North Canton (Grocery Store) 5527 DRESSLER ROAD, NW Decent selection of singles for
BYO. Glassware selection seems good. You might have to ask at the register for the sixpack bottle holder. Nothing refrigerated.
Also has a nice selection of munchables to go along with your beer. |
66 /100 Giant Eagle - North Canton (Belden Village Strip) (Grocery Store) 6493 STRIP AVE NW I walked in late one night and couldn’t believe all the beer they had. Usually grocery stores only carry macros, but they had a very decent selection of micros for a grocery store. Seeing as how I’m from CO, I was excited to see beers I can’t normally get like Two Hearted, Dragons Milk, and several others. Prices were decent for the selections available. |
58 /100 Giant Eagle - North Canton (Washington Square) (Grocery Store) 1955 E MAPLE ST I find it kind of difficult to rate the ambiance/food of a grocery store. However, I was pleasantly surprised by some of their selections. They had some Stone, Bells, Hoppin Frog and others. It’s not a liquor store, so I wasn’t expecting too much, but turned out they had more than I thought they would. Price wasn’t bad either. |
54 /100 Giant Eagle - North Canton (Washington Square) (Grocery Store) 1955 E MAPLE ST Pretty mediocre selection. A regular run of the mill grocery store with a very small corner of the beer selection reserved for the micros. Only have six packs really unless you step into the walk-in cooler where you can find 750s of Chimay and some shitty German Warsteiner bombers. Mostly they have Great Lakes, Magic Hat, Rogue and some Bells. Did have some randomly good standouts like Three Philisophers. It’s not the beer destination by any means in Canton but then again neither is Canton. |
52 /100 Acme (Beer Store) 1474 N. MAIN ST. A wide selection of beers both room teperature and cold. Good seasonals, a bunch of micro-brews and a friendly wine steward make this a fine store. |
62 /100 Cost Plus World Market - North Canton (Grocery Store) 5527 DRESSLER ROAD, NW Hands down the best beer selection in the Canton area. The beer wall which is all room temperature features La Choffe, Coopers, Hebrew, and the Dogfishhead lineup. The Hebrew Coney Island Lager was in on my last visit. |
50 /100 Cost Plus World Market - North Canton (Grocery Store) 5527 DRESSLER ROAD, NW I’ve been here a few times. the beer selection is good if your looking for micros and imports but none of it is cold. everything they sell is available as a single to try but be careful and check the dates - if any - the last time i was in they had some paulaners i wanted to pick up but they were all over a year old (09/05 being the oldest). on the plus side if your looking for glassware they are very good in this area, some with logos most without. i found some 20oz english pub glasses - no logos - for $2.99 which is the cheapest i’ve seen. overall it is a decent place to find new brews to try just be sure to check the dates. |
48 /100 Acme (Beer Store) 1474 N. MAIN ST. It’s a grocery store so service is non-existent. Selection and value are very much better than average for this area. The prices are as reasonable as can be found. What I really like is that most of the beers can be purchased from the coolers or directly off of the shelf which makes storage easy. Good selection of most well recognized imports and micro-brews, but they also carry Rogue, Stone, Unibroue, Ommegang and many other obscure brands. Wonderful find best selection of any grocery store around. |
50 /100 Acme (Beer Store) 1474 N. MAIN ST. If a grocery store with a similar selection were located in a larger city it would not really be worth mentioning. However, the Canton area of Ohio is not really known for beer (outside of Thirsty Dog, Winking Lizard, and World Market). This Acme is located on N. Main, which is a busy area of North Canton. Being a grocery store, parking is never a problem. As for the beer selection, one can find regionals like Great Lakes (including seasonals) and Thirsty Dog all stocked, as well as other micros like Stone (I saw a Double Bastard), Saranac, Sierra Nevada, Unibroue etc. The downside is that being a grocery store, don’t expect too much in the way of beer knowledge. In short, if you are visiting the North Canton for some reason, this grocery store may be worth a quick visit. |
70 /100 Cost Plus World Market - North Canton (Grocery Store) 5527 DRESSLER ROAD, NW This World market is similar to any other one I have been to. It is in the Westfield/Belden Village area of Canton. It is in a strip mall with other chains like Jo-Anne Etc and H.H. Gregg so there is plenty of parking. World Market is a great store. It is like Pier 1 but with alcohol. They have a selection of wines and beers from all over the world. The best thing is their &quo;beer endcap&quo;, which allows to to mix and match single bottles from pretty much any of the 6-packs they carry. What a wonderful way to sample beers! You can also find some Belgian brews like Corsendonk in larger bottles. Regionals like Great Lakes are usually in stock as well. All in all, this is a one-stop place to try 50+ beers without having to buy more than one bottle at a time. While you’re there, you can get a chair from Japan and some placemats from India. The service here is decent. You can usually find someone in the beer/wine section of the store who knows what they are talking about. |
