“Small brewery in Powell. Just indoor seating I believe. Long bar, TVs with sports airing. Fairly large number of taps with a variety of styles. Coffee Porter and NEIPA quite good. No food. An enjoyable stop but not particularly remarkable.“

“Cool brewery in Powell. A decent amount of indoor space with a small bar, some outdoor seating as well. They have a projector to display sports and such (on demand I imagine). A surprisingly family friendly place on a Sunday afternoon. They have about 12 taps or so. A good variety of styles and abvs (some lagers, a few IPAs, some barrel aged impys). They have cans as well. Solid beers, quite enjoyable. You can also do flights. No food but some snacks and they have food trucks. Solid stop outside of Columbus.“

“Constructed in an old train depot, Nocterra has a homey, cozy vibe. Plenty of beers on tap including hazy IPAs, an array of other IPAs, sours, a pilsner, a dunkle, fruited goses, several stouts and even a rose ale. There's plenty of outdoor seating and firepits with Ray Ray's Barbecue ready to supply the best barbecue in Columbus. Just feet from an active rail line, it's not unusual to see (and hear) a freight train heading down the tracks. Very family-friendly place with lots of kids and dogs, but not annoyingly so. Great place to chill and drink some very good beer.“

“Early 2021 Just outdoor patios. Main patio, tent patio, and lawn chairs by the road. Order your beer at the main building and grab a patio seat. Seems like a dozen beers to choose from. I had a porter. Bartender is nice and friendly. Looks like a nice brewery that seats about thirty inside. Music playing in the background. Nice place and would come back for sure! Cheers“

“Interesting place in a neighborhood along some railroad tracks.Big patio with fire burning. Food truck with BBQ going also. Main bar has plenty of seats. Lights dim. About 15 beers on tap with bar crew friendly. I think I found last parking spot in their lot but I’m sure you can park on the road.Love the music here with some zydeco playing at the moment. Look like they have souvenirs here’s too. T-Shirts/Glasses. Love this place! Cheers!“

“Easy dedicated parking lot. Fair distance from the center of Columbus. Medium quantity of beer. A fair amount of singles at the higher prices point. Service was pretty good. Not willing to breakup lower priced four-packs/six-packs. I found around a six-pack of good brews. Probably worth the trip.“

“Located in small strip mall location in Powell. Craft selection not huge but good, with local breweries sufficiently represented. Service was excellent as was the fine, reasonably priced food. The calzone was one of the best I've ever had, and I've had quite a few. Well worth a stop if you're in the area.“

“Located in a small strip mall location in Powell, a northern (pretty far northern) suburb of Columbus. Good selection of their own brews and guest taps. Small but serviceable taproom. The brews in the sample flight I had were decent although none were standouts. Worth a stop if you're spending a significant amount of time in Powell but there are many better brewery options in the Columbus area.“

“(Visited 02/2015): Kraft House No. 5 is in downtown Powell on the corner of Liberty and Powell Road, in the space formerly occupied by Easy Street Cafe. Street parking and a couple lots can be found in the surrounding blocks.

The building is like an old house with a light gray exterior and white railings around a small porch. Inside opens to a bar area on the left and table seating on the right. The decor is both modern and rustic with barn-wood tables and dark walls. There is a large butcher’s display with the logo on a wall next to the bar. Behind the bar is a nice wooden pattern on the wall with liquor bottles on shelves. The taps are also visible.

Kraft House has 20 beers on draught. On my first visit there was a MadTree tap takeover, but they also feature breweries like Columbus Brewing, Homestead, Jackie O’s, Land-Grant and Seventh Son locally plus other craft breweries like Dogfish Head, White Birch and Ommegang. Samples are available, as are growlers.

Service at the bar on a weekday evening was good. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about the beers.

Food at Kraft House is good. We split a couple appetizers and they were both enjoyable.

All in all this is another nice entry into the continually improving Powell beer scene, with a solid beer selection, nice atmosphere and good food.“

“Prohibition Gastro Lounge is a new spot in downtown Powell on West Olentangy (Powell Rd) and Liberty. Street parking and a public lot are nearby.

The two-story brick building is painted white and has large windows facing the street with awnings over them. Inside opens to the ground level with table seating and a bar in the rear. The second floor also has a bar with high top tables and several TVs.

The pub has 20 or so beers on draught, including local breweries like Columbus Brewing, Wolf’s Ridge and Elevator. There are around 50 bottled options from breweries like Southern Tier, Victory, Stone and Sweetwater. Prohibition prides itself on their cocktails too.

Service on a Monday evening at the upstairs bar was good. Our server was in training so we were helped by her and her trainer, and they were attentive and friendly.

Food at Prohibition is good. My colleagues and I visited on burger night and we all enjoyed them.

Overall this is place is a welcome addition to the slowly-expanding Powell beer scene.“

“(Visited 09/2014): Daily Growler’s newer Powell location is located in a plaza not too far from downtown on Powell Rd/Olentangy Street. There is ample parking in front of the building.

There is a small patio in front of the entrance. Inside opens to a walk-up bar similar to the other location. There are tables opposite the bar. The decor is minimal, consisting of fairly bare white-painted walls and wooden tables with metal chairs. The whole atmosphere lends itself to getting people in and out with their growlers, same as the UA location.

Daily Growler has 60 beers on tap, with an emphasis especially on breweries from OH like Seventh Son, CBC, Great Lakes, Brew Kettle, and Hoppin’ Frog. Other domestic craft breweries like Stone, Lagunitas, Southern Tier, Founders and Sweetwater are represented as well. Beer is available in growlers, pints and samples, with the price per ounce increasing exponentially as the serving size gets smaller, which again is on par with the philosphy (and name) of the place.

Service at this location is good. The staff are well-versed in the beers and are on top of things.

Daily Growler doesn’t serve food but they get food trucks periodically.

All in all this is a welcome beer spot in Powell that always has a solid beer list.“

“Dropped in on opening day. It’s the same format as the UA Daily Growler with a lot more patio space. A daily discounted growler, nice happy hour pricing 3-7pm - particularly the 1/2 price pints, 5oz sampler taps of anything, fill their own growlers only - but will swap out 32 or 64oz. I live close to the other, so would likely only go if I was in the area or they had something exclusive. Nice setup overall. They had a food truck posted up when I was there and other restaurants are in the vicinity.“

Yabo’s Tacos (Restaurant)
4046 W POWELL RD
“(Visited 09/2013): The latest Yabo’s location is in Powell in a shopping plaza on West Powell and Sawmill. Parking is plentiful in the plaza.

The interior opens to a counter where food is ordered. Beyond that are booths and tables, and the bar is on the left side. Food pick up is in the rear. Pretty standard Mexican food/sports bar look, with TVs all around and pastel colors on the walls with theme-appropriate decor.

The beer selection at Yabo’s consists of a mix of domestic crafts, macros and imports. Usually a few good craft options among the 20 or so taps from the likes of Bells, Lagunitas, Stone and Rogue. Ohio breweries like Fat Heads, Great Lakes, Seventh Son and Columbus Brewing show up regularly.

Service at Yabo’s is consistently good. Both the servers and bartenders are knowledgeble about the beer selection and attentive. Note the bar is full service vs ordering food only.

Food at Yabo’s is always enjoyable. I am a fan of the Big Sloppy Yabo, and there are a variety of sauces.

All in all this place doesn’t necessarily merit a visit on the beer selection alone, but I visit a lot because there is always something worthwhile beer-wise to go with the great Mexican food.“

“Liberty Tavern is located in downtown Powell on Liberty Street just off Powell Rd. There is a parking lot behind the building and street parking is available nearby.

The interior has a patriotic theme, including a replica Liberty Bell. Most of the space is devoted to restaurant seating, and there is a bar in the rear. There is a patio as well, along with a Ben Franklin banquet room..

The beer selection consists of 16 taps. Some macros along with domestic craft breweries like Goose Island, Fat Heads, Bear Republic and Great Lakes. There are around 100 bottled offerings, again several macros but craft breweries like Brew Kettle, Great Lakes, Elevator, Dark Horse and Lagunitas.

Service has been pretty good on our visits. The servers are fairly familiar with the beer menu and are friendly.

Liberty Tavern’s food menu is pretty extensive, from appetizers to soups/salads and entrees like fish and chips and pork chops. Meals have been consistently good in my experience.

Overall this is a nice restaurant with a solid beer menu to visit in quaint downtown Powell.“

“Overall Old Bad of Nails is good, but beer selection is limited. Food is average bar type food you’d expect from an Applebee or Max and Erma. It is all good, but there are other places offering better beer selections and food in Powell.“

“Fun place to go for live music and great beer. I got a beer flight a good way to sample some of the sixteen beers they have on tap. The food is great and way better then I expected for a neighborhood pub. Get the pork chop you won’t be disappointed. Friendly staff and laid back atmosphere.“

I like to stop in for happy hour because all the drinks are on special and all the appetizers are 5$!! You really cant beat it when it comes to good food for a good price. i definitely recommend the Liberty Tavern to anyone looking for quality food and drinks at a fair price.“

“Having just moved to Powell, Ohio my wife and I stumbled across this little treasure trove of great food and great beer. Imagine my surprise when I came in the first time and found Three Floyds Gumballhead on draft and Lagunitas Sucks. Best part was that we came during their happy hour and all drafts where half off and their appetizers were only $5!! I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The bartender was extremely knowledgable and informed me that the drafts change constantly. Once I closed my jaw at the sight of 16 awesome drafts and had a moment to look over the "Liberty Tavern Colossal Beer List" with over 100 bottles and meads, we ordered food that was well above top notch for a small local tavern. We have have been back twice more and have had everything from Three Floyds Alpha King to B. Nektor’s Zombie Killer. We have been consistantly impressed with the drinks, food, and service. Heck, they even have great live music. If you are looking for a little gem to make your new spot or are just passing through Liberty Tavern is the place you want to go. My wife and I don’t even bother going to the other places in the area as the beer and food selection is always better than the last time we were in. Kudos to the staff and management for making Liberty the best place in Powell“

“Liberty Tavern is located in the center of Powell and provides a family atmosphere for great lunch, dinner and late evening entertainment. They offer a continuously changing selection of good beers on tap, and a large variety (over 100) of bottled beers. You will find no Macro Brew beers on tap, and only 5 in bottles out of the over 100 available. The service at the bar is superb whether you are looking for craft beers, mixed drinks, mead, ciders, or wine. They also have a well known Columbus Chef, Jeff Bentley, that continuously adds new and creative dishes to the menu using fresh ingredients. If you live in Powell, or happen to be in the neighborhood I recommend you visit Liberty Tavern.“

Old Bag Of Nails (Restaurant)
345 W OLENTANGY RD
“(Visited 11/2012): The Powell location of Old Bag occupies the space formerly taken by Lost Shepherd. It is on Powell (Olentangy) Rd west of the downtown area. There is a private lot behind the building as well as street parking on Powell.

The interior opens to table and booth seating, with the bar beyond. Dark colors with hanging lights, and gray brick walls with large old photographs. TVs behind the bar.

Old Bag in Powell has 12-15 draught beers with highlights from Southern Tier, Thirsty Dog, Brooklyn, Bells and Green Flash. Bottles from macros and larger craft breweries as well.

Service at the bar was pretty good on a weekday evening. The bartender was friendly and somewhat knowledgeable about the beers.

Old Bag is known for their fish and chips, which I consider amongst the best in town. Good sandwiches too.

All in all there usually something worthwhile beer-wise at Old Bag of Nails, and this location is no exception. Nice to see another good place for beer in Powell.“

“Ale Wine and Spirits (AWS) has been in Powell over a year (as of September 2012). Their staff and owner are very friendly and helpful in the selection of any item you might be looking to find. My wife and I began going there when they first opened and participated in a couple of wine tastings. It was on the second wine tasting we noticed the beer tastings and have not returned to wine. AWS’s beer geek Kevin, got us hooked and now my basement is full of great beers mostly purchased from AWS. They have a great beer selection and do a great job recommending beers to suit your taste. If in doubt when in the store ask. They provide great advice. Kevin who introduced us to great beers has since left to become a rep for one of the beer distributors, but often attends the weekly beer tastings. Kyle is the new beer geek and does a great job. Tastings are every Thursday and Friday Night from 6 to 8. We have a great group that attends. If you are local to AWS or just passing through I recommend you drop by especially for the tastings, you’ll have a great time. “

“Visited a multitude of times since they opened. Located on north Sawmill at Home Rd. There is a decent-sized private lot on the front and side of the building. The interior is cleanly laid out with the beer selection in the back of the store, both in coolers and on shelves (plus a couple end caps). Singles are available. There is also a small bar in both the beer and wine sections. Lastly there is a separate room set aside for private parties, events, etc. Ale Wine & Spirits stocks a couple hundred beers, including many local and OH breweries like CBC, Thirsty Dog, Elevator, Neil House and GLBC. Many other domestic micros like Epic, Stone, Stillwater, Victory etc. Many imports from the likes of Mikkeller, Fantôme and Wittekerke too. Service at AWS is top notch. Kevin manages stock and will do whatever he can to fulfill requests. In addition he coordinates weekly tastings. Overall this is a store I would frequent even if it was not relatively close to home. One of the better spots to hit in the Columbus area.“

“This is by far the best place to buy beer in my area. The staff is fantastic (Kevin will sit and talk to me about beer for as long as I want). They have regular tastings that are varied both in rarity of beers and style. Their selection is above and beyond other beer stores in the area, even Andersons in my opinion. If it is new, or rare, and it was released in Ohio, these guys seem to get it. They may have limited stock, but they send out emails detailing new and rare beers and the release dates. The prices are pretty much standard, no significant differences between here and other places. Overall, I am going to be very sad when I move at the end of the summer, because I love this place.“

“Stopped in here after my nephews lacrosse game. Store looks fairly new. Nice atmosphere inside. Staff seemed a bit disinterested..could have been the way I looked, maybe I was out of place in this upperscale area, who knows. Found their selection of micros and imports to be ok, nothing to write home about compared to other stores i’ve been to on this trip. Picked up a 6pk of Oberon, nothing really exciting. Think if I was in this area again on a visit I would hit up Anderson’s or From The Vine again. Again, atmosphere is nice, selection is just ok. Did find out when I was checking out that this is the "sister" store to Blacklick wine and spirits. “

Local Roots (Restaurant)
15 E OLENTANGY ST.
“(Visited 01/2010): Local Roots occupies a space that has been a couple different bars/restaurants in the last few years. It is located on Powell Rd and Smoky Row. There is a small lot out front and other parking nearby. The interior is like a bar set into a warehouse. There are tables near the entry and the bar area is in the rear. The ceilings seem artificially high given the soft lighting and wood motif. They need to do something to make the place fee smaller to match the vibe they are going for. This open feel worked in previous iterations (a wide open area with 4 big screens on the back wall for example) but as a pub it seems disjointed. Enough about the atmosphere. The beer selection at Local Roots is decent. There are 15-16 draughts including some Ohio breweries like Great Lakes. Weasel Boy, Columbus Brewing and Thirsty Dog. Other breweries like Anchor and Rogue are present as well. As for bottles there are around 50 featuring domestic brews from Anchor, Left Hand, Mendocino and others. The import selections are mostly standard with a few notables like Ommegang. Local Roots also does beer tastings and offers "flights" of beer (including an Ohio one). Service on a slow weekday evening was good. The server wasn’t a beer expert by any stretch but had a decent understanding of what they carried and made good food recommendations for first-timers. As for those food recommendations, our Calzone and Southern Chicken sandwich were both pretty good. Overall this is a pretty good low-key spot to visit in Powell. once they get some of the kinks worked out I can see swinging by here for a beer on the way home from work.“

“I made the drive up here after hitting up the Crossroads Winking Lizard for some Bambic. This place is new and it looks it. Its very nice inside. The floor plan was actually given some thought, same with decor and color choices. There is a nice swooping island/counter/shelving display unit that curves around the center of the store just as you walk in. Being half wine, half beer and half liquor (yes 150%) the center display is fronted by wine and backed with beer. The more elegant bottles of each are arranged nicely and attractively on the top of the large display unit. The way things are set up it took me a second to fully realize their beer selection. Since all the wine is facing the door you walk in thinking its more of a wine store. Luckily the store isnt difficult to get comfortable in and soon the wide beer selection becomes apparent. I started with the coolers. The long back wall is all coolers for beer. Starting with chilled bombers it moves right to left, going past many doors of 6 packs and ending with imports. I did feel that the imported stuff was kinda segregated though. Being way down on the end, near the BMC and Corona and stuff I could see how some of the better European stuff could be overlooked. Now, back to that big center display unit. On its lower shelves are the singles. Individually priced for mix and match. I was happy to find North Peak singles here. The Belgians and Belgian styles are on top. All of the new Stillwater beers looked great as they are displayed here. I mixed a six and purchased a Delirium Tremens with an upside down label (there were several. Epic!) and a Lagunitas Ruben and the Jets which has been long gone since before this store even opened so I dont know how it got there. Service was as good as it can get. I ended up chatting with Kevin for quite a while. He’s obviously one of their designated beer geeks. He is very familiar with their stock and I would have faith in any suggestion he would make. I didn’t really need much help but he was friendly and able to ask me what styles I like and tell me what some of his current favorites are. He seemed genuinely happy to have my business. The interaction and getting to meet another local beer geek made it worth my trip. “

68 /100 4028 PRESIDENTIAL PARKWAY
“Located off Sawmill Rd in Powell (near Dublin), Ohio. Part of a mini-mall. The parking lot is big enough that there are usually spots.

Inside there are 2 separate bars with seating between. The atmosphere is a mix between a sports bar and Margaritaville. Lots of wood with a small stage for the local bands that play there. There is also a small game room. They have recently added a small patio.

The beer selection is not great, but they make do. There are between 10-15 draughts between the 2 bars, and aside from the usuals you can find Flying Dog, Stoudt’s, Founder’s, and Otter Creek to name a few. The bartender went as far as to show me his distribution sheet and said they switch out the &quo;unique&quo; beers about once a month. They routinely run ’keep the glass’ specials as well. As for bottles, there are a couple Bell’s and Sam Smith’s amongst the normal claptrap. The bar staff is very knowledgeable and even offered samples.

The food has a Key West flare. Lots of seafood entrees like Alaskan Snow Crab, mussels, catfish, mahi mahi, etc. The Mesquite Mahi Mahi is better as an entree than a sandwich. The Blackened Catfish is another good dish to try.

Overall, this place doesn’t have a stellar beer selection but between the laid back tropical feel and good food it is worth checking out if you are in the area.“
