“Visited; 12-20-11 A: The place is very nice inside, good seating, long bar that holds 20, open kitchen. Q: Quality of the beers was outstanding. Their worst tap beer is better than most places best beer. 25 taps, all solid. Great Bomber Selection too. S: One bartender knew her stuff, had a new guy who is not a beer nerd but he will learn quickly. Very Attentive and Friendly S: Solid Selection from across the country of great brewers. Only draw back was 1 tap was from Ohio. No food today. Overall, I really liked the place and personally a better spot to drink than Wiloughby Brewing (and they had one tap). Nice selection that really didnt let me down.“

“Great beer selection on tap and bottle. Currently has Great Lakes Brew Co. Rye of the tiger on tap, which is very rare outside of the GLBC pub.“

“Pure gastro pub with a bit more class. Best pure beer place in town in terms of atmosphere, beer selection, and serving in proper glassware. Service can be hit or miss if not sitting at the bar. Food is good.“

“My local fall back. Pure dive bar atmosphere. Never had a problem with service. Prices were cheap even more during happy hours. Beer selection was mixed, never anything over the top or tremendous.... just solid crafts. Never ate here but the do have a menu. Patio is fun during the summer.“

“Next door to 1899 and across the street from Willoughby Brewing, Ballantine is a classier bar, with lots of seating and bar space, occasional DJ and windows that open directly onto the main drag of Willoughby, Good selection with lots of good things on tap, can be difficult to order later in the evening due to the crowds but much more spacious than any other place.. good specials and good atmosphere I only wish it were closer.“

“Bar, directly across the street from Willoughby Brewing, has some AWESOME happy hour specials, including at one time 2.50 dollar bottles of Brooklyn Black Chocolate stout... Stocks a great variety of IPA’s and micro beers, but this place is small and often gets crowded smelly and hot. Look for the patio to be open or the pool table upstairs. cheap patio seating inside can be awkard, but the beer selection is great, they’ve even had Storm King in bottles at previous times.“

“Nice neighborhood bar ambiance, nice selection of craft beer. I’d visit more often if it wasn’t so far from my house.“

“By far the best beer selection of american craft and belgian beers on the east side of Cleveland, if not the entire region of northeast Ohio... 29 taps with 12-13 rotating seasonals and rarities at any time. Bottle list is smaller but hits every variation of choice beers available including all trappist beers, amazing big bottle selection, and great american/ worldly breweries. Service is far above average and more knowledgeable then most beer bars!“

“Rustic pub with "18" drafts and "99" bottles. They always have a few very good draft selections. Good seasonal rotations. The bottle list is good as well. They share the same owner as the next door Ballantine, so you can take advantage of the great Ballantine food while in the more relaxed 1899 atmosphere. Willoughby has a few great beer stops and this is not to be overlooked.“

“Great location in downtown Willoughby, "the Pub" has 18 beers and a lot more in the bottle. Great happy hour prices. Bell’s Two Hearted always on tap along with a couple other staples and a good rotating selection. Bartenders are on top of their game. No food but you can order from the Ballantine (next door) menu and eat it here.“

“One of the better draft selections on the East side of Cleveland. Yes lots of Belgians but also a lot of other US craft beers. Can be pricey. Food is great and happy hour specials really worth it. Staff is great and friendly.“

“Was here for a party so I was in a "private" room upstairs. There are two bars although all draft taps come from the main bar. Selection was better than I was expecting - though you are not going to find anything super rare you can find taps like Bell’s Two Hearted, Ithaca Flower Power, and rotating Great Lakes beers. The bottle list is solid as well - if you ignore the third that is the typical line up (Coors, Miller, etc) it includes a few lambics and Belgians worth the price. Speaking of which I was surprised at the relative value - a bottle of Storm King was only $3.50 on premises which is not nearly as much of a markup as I expected. All told I would rather go to Willoughby just down the street but if tire of their taps this is only three minutes away.“

“Visited during a recent business trip. Clean bar area, many taps, including some standard Belgians (Gulden Draak, Piraat, Chimay), and micros (GLBC, Clipper City, Bell’s). Drinks were a bit pricey, especially mixed drinks, but the staff was friendly. Bands on select nights, as well.“

“New, clean, somewhat trendy gastropub. There is a large bar centrally surrounded by table and booth seating. There are many large HDTVs hung about. There are many available beers on draft including many great Belgians and high quality microbrews. The food has gone through a number of changes. The current menu and chef are excellent. The menu consists of a nice variety of sandwiches, pizzas, and entrees which are updated frequently. Service is reliable and prompt. Worth the trip to willoughby if you live in NE Ohio. Overall, a much better choice for beer and food than the neighboring Willoughby brewing company. -update- menu has changed - mostly steaks currently. Also they have increased their beer prices slightly and now use appropriate glassware (good, but usually means less volume)“
