“Nice place in Worthington, Ohio. Medium size places with dim lights and medium sized parking lot. Bar hold a dozen people and 8 big tables to hold the people. One nice bartender with an assistant.15 of their own beers on tap and a few different beers of their own in cans served. Music got switched to football game. Three tv’s in the buildings. Have outdoor patio.. Beers to go and souvenirs also. Nice place. Cheers!“

“Free dedicated parking right in front. Store is a little run down. The lady did ask if I needed help. Selection is pretty limited, there are some singles. No reason to go back.“

House Wine (Beer Store)

“Free dedicated medium size parking lot on the corner. The place is mostly about wine. Around a dozen taps, which I saw to tap list menu. Some cans and bottles in a couple coolers in the back right and a cellar of beer in the back left. The bar tender was friendly. Beer selection was limited and nothing of interest.“

“(Visited 01/2015): Whitney House is situation in downtown Worthington on High Street, in the space formerly occupied by P.K. O’Ryan’s, Parking is available on the street and in a small public lot nearby.

The interior is appealing, with table seating past the entrance, and a bar area through a short walkway in the rear. Wooden floors and tables lend to a rustic feel, and nice touches like Moravian Star pendant lights class the place up a bit. There is a small bar in back with a chalk board behind it listing the beers on tap.

As for the beer selection, there are 10 draught beers, including breweries from Ohio like Great Lakes, Jackie O’s, Brew Kettle, MadTree and Columbus Brewing. Around 10 bottled selections too from the likes of Founders, New Holland and Great Lakes.

Service for a Sunday brunch was good. The server was knowledgeable and attentive.

Brunch was enjoyed by our entire group. From the french press coffee (and mimosa) to the sticky bun appetizers and steak and egg entrees I enjoyed all the food.

All in all this is a pretty typical new entry into the gastgropub scene, in that everything is organic and locally sourced, with a tinge of hipsterness to it, but as long as the beer list is solid and the food is good I will keep coming back.“

“We’ve been here a few times now and it’s kind of a mixed bag. For the restaurant: nice trendy setup, kid friendly, ok but not great pizza, good salads, nice service. For the beer: 35-ish good but typical craft, fair number of locals, somewhat static list between visits (which is a positive when they keep Alpha King on), little pricey. Also a decent bottle list - I would have considered a few Rivertown bombers, but they were crazy expensive. Nice spot to bring the kids and sneak a pint. If it’s just us, we’d be more inclined to skip the pizza and sit at the bar. “

House Wine (Beer Store)
644 N HIGH ST.
“(Visited 01/2014 and a few times before that going back to 2011 - I swear I reviewed this place before): House Wine is located in downtown Worthington on the corner of High Street and New England Ave. There is a small parking lot in front of the plaza they anchor as well as street parking in the surrounding blocks, but both are scarce during peak times.

There is a small patio to the right of the building. Inside opens to the bottle shop, with wine racks along the walls and on shelves in the middle, and there are tables interspersed in front and along the left side. There is a very short bar in the right rear and a beer cooler as well as some beer on shelves. The walls are painted olive green and there is a large chandelier in the back.

House wine has 12 taps and regularly features craft breweries like Bells, Southern Tier, Great Lakes and Epic. There are a couple dozen bottled options as well from breweries like Rogue, Stone, Lagunitas, Elevator and Founders.

Service on my visits has always been good both at the bar and when buying beer to go. They also do beer events pretty frequently.

I have not eaten at House Wine, and I believe they allow food to be brought in along with serving some small plate items.

All in all this is primarily a wine shop but can be counted on for solid beer options.“

“Zaftig is another new brewery in Columbus, and is located on the north side on Schrock Road in a warehouse/storage garage. Parking is available in front of the building.

The interior of the garage has a table and couches past the entrance, and a small walk-up bar on the right for samples, pints and growler sales. There is a whiteboard next to the bar listing the available beers, and a logo banner behind. The place is pretty no frills, with the brewery and cleaning equipment right in the same space.

The taproom typically has 3-4 beers on draught. On my visit this included a Stout, Strong Ale and Wee Heavy. All of them were above average. The beers are available in samples, pints and growlers.

Service on my visit was good. The brewers/owners were there and were more than happy to talk about their beers and solicit feedback.

Food is not available.

Overall it is nice to see another nanobrewery opening in Columbus, this one pretty much in the shadow of the A-B plant.“

“Great beer and wine shop - recently added 12-tap system for growlers - get some good regionals and some special treats. Highly recommended - employees are awesome and the best spot in Worthington for those with discriminating taste in their imbibements...“

“Pies and Pints in Worthington is located in a shopping plaza just north of 270 on 23/High Street. Parking is plentiful in the plaza.

The interior of the brick building opens to the bar area, and there is another room with table seating. Primary colors on the walls in the bar, and painted brick in the other room. There is a nice "BEER" sign on one wall, and sparse and clean decor throughout. Behind the bar is a row of tap handles, and a digital beer menu above them.

There are over 30 beers on draught at Pies & Pints. Ohio breweries like Elevator, Weasel Boy, Fat Heads, CBC, Seventh Son and Great Lakes are on tap, as are domestic craft breweries like Founders, Ballast Point and Stone. There are over 50 bottled options as well from the likes of Bruery, Bells, Founders and Great Lakes. Some imports as well.

Service on a weekday evening at the bar was good. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about their beers.

I did not try any food on my visit, but my colleagues had some pizza and it got good reviews, and I will definitely plan on eating next time.

All in all, Pies & Pints is a solid addition to the growing number of craft beer and pizza joints around town, joining Mellow Mushroom, Dewey’s and others. A good stop on the north side of Columbus.“

“Went here for a group gathering after work, I had heard about this place but never tried it. For a large group, our servers were efficient and thorough. They had a large craft selection broken down by category. I went with the Elevator Hefewizen. Their small salad is the size of a dinner plate, so that meant leftovers. My entree was their margherita pizza, which had that delicious taste of a wood-fired oven.“

“This is a french bistro which my cousin works at. The food is good. I saw three taps of good quality belgian style beer Unibroue, La Chouffe, and the other escapes me. Bar is in the back on the right. NIce place, but the taps are limited.“

“Nice local wine shop with a very good craft beer selection and three beers on draft. Can take my wife here (she hates beer), and we can both get a nice buzz. Does occassional beer tastings and hosts a summer beer festival in the parking lot.“

“Visited after dinner on a Tuesday. Located on a cool shopping block, nice outdoor patio out front. The initial stench of this place was grease and rotting fish. I asked the bartender if this was normal, and she said she thought they might be cleaning the kitchen. No worries, I’ll take my beer ouf front - nope, local laws don’t allow drinking on the patio. I had one beer (GL Lake Erie Monster) and got out of here. The tap list was just ok, nothing really jumped out and a bunch of macros and their import brethren. This place could have had a cool, broken in local pub feel, but the stench was just too much on this visit. Others have not mentioned this, so hopefully I was just unlucky.

58 = ★½ (Local place tickers only)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“This unassuming liquor store had some great beers, most of them refrigerated. Picked up a Pumking and a Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout. Friendly service and decent organization. Great place for a quick stop.“

“House Wine is walking distance from my house. The shops primary focus is wine but they have a cooler full of premium beers that you can mix and match... They carry a nice selection of Bell’s, Founder’s and a variety of others. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly.“

“Nice pub atmosphere but really unimpressive draft list. They only have a few drafts most of which are macros in disguise. It seems the best you come by here is a Great Lakes or DFH. Not worth a dedicated stop.“

“I had a really enjoyable after-work occasion here, and thought it worth reviewing. A friend and I sat at the bar and had some beers and apps, and this place had a fun and homey feel to it that I really liked. However, the beer list is not so special. They were out of my first choice, so I had several DFH 90 Minutes. Bottle list was similarly unspectacular. But if I can find one beer I like on that particular day and the rest of the place makes me happy, I am OK with a limited beer list. Food was OK - had some nacho dip and wings, and the wings were really pretty good. Prices were reasonable. And service was attentive despite the fact they were quite busy. All-in-all, I enjoyed my visit to this Old Bag of Nails, and I would return to this one, or be willing to visit others again.“

“This is a place I would never even go into had I not lived right across the street. Nestled in between St. Michael’s Church and Broadghettos Blvd. on High Street just south of Worthington, this Wine Shop/State Liquor Agency looks like a hole but has an impressive selection of craft brews, singles, and liquor. Staff is very friendly, and if they are happy to take special orders for any beers they can get through the distributor. Last time I was in, they had almost every Hoppin’ Frog bomber, 5-6 flavors of Great Lakes, and several selections from Bells, New Holland, Thirsty Dog, et al. Around Thanksgiving they had several quads of Breakfast Stout on their shelves when it was long gone elsewhere. Impressive selection of wines, too.“

Le Chatelaine (Restaurant)
627 HIGH ST.
“(Visited 06/2006): Le Chatelaine is located on High Street in Worthington. Street and private lot parking is available nearby. It is a French country-style restaurant with lots of wood flooring and tables, and an open feel with plenty of windows. They also have a spacious patio. The small bar is in a cove between the cafeteria and dining room. They have table service every day but Sunday. On Sundays you order your food cafeteria style and take it back to a table. The beer selection is small but has some real gems. Of the 4 draughts, they stock Goose Island, St. Bernadus, Scaldis and Abbaye des Rocs. As for bottles, they have around 25 with French/Belgian offerings like Fisher, Gulden Draak, Duvel, Chimay, etc. The service here is always good, both in the dining area and at the bar. The bartender is very familiar with the beers they stock. The food here is decidedly French. Great breads and cheeses, and traditional french food like Coq au Vin. Some of it is not to my taste but there is always something I can find that I like. Overall this is a nice low-key place to have a killer Belgian beer on draught while nibbling on some fresh homemade bread and tasty cheese. It is a regular stop for me.“

“This is the best Old Bag of Nails Pub of the bunch. Get the deep fried pickles and a nice pint while you are there.

Avoid the Bexley location at all costs (found glass in my pint, and they still made me pay).“

“If you want good beer and equally good food this is the place to go. Fish and Chips joint with an very acceptable selection of brews. Don’t expect to find a case of odd Lambics on hand, but expect many suitale beers for the menu. Again, if you want good beer and food in Columbus, go here, not Barleys or The Elevator.“

“This is one of a few places I will take a visitor to Columbus when I have the chance. Located in Old Worthington, finding parking can be pretty dicey if you go at peak hours. There is street parking but you may have to walk a bit. It is worth it.

This location is very tiny, the pub is nestled between small shops. They have &quo;patio seating&quo;, meaning 4 plastic tables on the sidewalk. Inside, it is very cozy but that contributes a lot to the charm. Lots of breweriana adorns the walls (I especially like the walls lined with old beer cans behind glass). The bar is small but it maintains the whole English Pub look and feel. Many places spend lots of money attaining that atmosphere but Old Bag pulls it off without even trying.

The beer selection is very good given the lack of space. The bottled selection leans toward English beers (Sam Smith, Fuller’s etc). The draught selection is in constant flux, but you can always get something from GLBC, Leinenkugel’s, or an Arrogant Bastard. This is the only place I know of that has Old Rasputin on draught which is great.

The staff is knowledgeable and courteous and I have never had a problem with the speed of service or with beer knowledge.

Now, the food. If you go here and don’t get the Fish & Chips you should be ashamed. It is unbelievably good (and BIG!). The Patty Melt is great too.“
