68 /100 Holiday Beverage (Beer Store) 8601 TORRESDALE AVENUE Beer Distributor located in Northeast Philadelphia (easy off I-95). Holiday has a constantly changing inventory of micro/macro beer out of season or about to reach best before date selling at a large discount. Active on Facebook + Instagram advertising specials. Bonus great customer service. |
72 /100 2401 WALNUT ST Huge corporate feeling space. Outdoor patio has nice views over the Schuylkill. Taplist is a bit smaller than their original location, but the beers of course just as excellent. Feels a lot less authentic than the original taproom, which I much prefer. |
80 /100 701 S 50TH STREET Nice big space, thoughtfully designed interior. Excellent pizza. Beers very good. Really enjoyable. |
72 /100 Local 44 (Bar) 4333 SPRUCE STREET Cool neighborhood bar vibe. Taplist pretty good. Table service a little slow outside. Comfortable place to stop for a beer. |
72 /100 2331 E. CUMBERLAND STREET Trendy upscale bar. Only three of their own beers plus Orval and Guinness. Beers were good. Also a good wine list / other normal bar things. A bit pretentious but it mostly works. |
60 /100 3705 W SCHOOL HOUSE LN Big spot on the hill over the river. Sports bar vibe, and lots of noise. The bartenders are busy, but friendly enough. The tap list is fairly quality, but the beers I had were fair at best. Fun spot. |
68 /100 Glory Beer Bar & Kitchen (Bar) 126 CHESTNUT ST Slow Monday night. Cool, large bar and restaurant. The street parking is tight and expensive. The bartenders are friendly and quick. The food was pretty good. The tap list is quite extensive and varied. Quality stop, and tasty beer. |
72 /100 2711 W GIRARD AVE Small unassuming brewery space. Decent beer quality, but pretty small taplist. Food options sounded decent but did not order. A nice place. |
64 /100 Barcade (Bar) 1114 FRANKFORD AVE Large space full of arcade machines. Large taplist but a lot of more mainstream options, certainly ticks available but not of super high quality. hopdog would be excited to know they do indeed have pinball machines now. |
80 /100 1002 CANAL ST Big modern minimalist space. Everything else is what you expect from an Other Half location. Beer is very good, skews heavily towards IPAs. Small pours available. Enjoyed my visit. |
76 /100 1101 FRANKFORD AVE Nice modern taproom space. Large tap list, big variety of styles. No small pours or flights, and half pints not available on lagers. Quality seems pretty high on average. Good. |
78 /100 1710 N. 5TH ST I was here once when it was St. Benjamin's. Taproom still looks the same, small bar, and a few picnic beench type tables. Big Factory space, super high ceilings. Great service, Lots of lagers on, the two czech ones I had were really good. Street parking did not seem to be an issue. |
64 /100 6168 RIDGE AVE I went with a small group on a Sunday morning. Brunch time. Mistake. Although this place seemed to cater more to the brunch crowd than the beer crowd. New place, still shiny, kind of upscale. Was nice to see they had some malty styles available. ESB and mild ale were the best way to start out a day of brewery hopping.Service was OK, they did the best they could with a packed house. Beer decent. Street parking. |
76 /100 3705 W SCHOOL HOUSE LN Tucked away among the rolling urban landscape, interesting place. Event space with it's own bar, smaller, cozier taproom up front. Quite a range of taps. Good service. Parking can be problematic |
76 /100 4317 FLEMING ST Located in a quiet neighborhood, occupying an old corner tavern. Pretty bare bones interior, a few tables. Sizeable bar. Pizza can be ordered here. Good service. Street parking. |
70 /100 1001 N. 2ND STREET Large space with a big outdoor area. Wide range of styles available, 4oz pours on offer. Beer quality was pretty solid. Decent place. |
72 /100 915 SPRING GARDEN STREET Small modern space. Range of beers not huge, but fairly diverse, and generally pretty good. Cool space. |
70 /100 500 SPRING GARDEN STREET Large open space, pretty modern feel. Long bench tables with table service. Preset flights available, lots of styles. Beers generally pretty decent. Food was good. |
80 /100 The Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 1837 E PASSYUNK AVE Stopped in here on our Passyunk ramble. Short but good taplist, all local. Friendly, prompt service. Pretty large cooler section. Small drinking area in the back. Worth a stop if in the area. |
80 /100 1326 E. PASSYUNK AVE. Right in the neighborhood. Big garage door opens to spacious taproom and brewhouse. Small bar, 12 taps, lots of malty styles. All the beers were really good. Great service too. Plenty of other places in the vicinity as well. Parking might be an issue. |
74 /100 6168 RIDGE AVE This is a relatively small brewpub tucked away above Manayunk. It has a nice outdoor space in a courtyard and a clean and modern indoor dining room. Selection of about 8 beers is available along with PA wines and liquors. Beers are pretty solid, but it seems like they do not brew too many different beers. I am also not sure if they do flights or if it is all large pours. Staff was pleasant. Food was pretty good. This place is not a must, but it is a nice place to visit in the area. |
86 /100 1002 CANAL ST Stop #3 and last stop on short B-Day Philly beer tour. Great OH beers on tap. Did not eat but buddy had the wings which looked ok. If I was closer and I didn't have to drive through traffic to get here, I would come all them time, but I do like OH beers. |
72 /100 1727 N FRONT STREET B-Day stop #2 ... stopped by during lunch on a Friday and had the place to ourselves. Roomy inside with a decent # of taps (but as I find with their beers, averaged to below). Sandwich was good, but for me, came here, saw it, I'm good. |
78 /100 1002 CANAL ST Visit Date: 11/18/22
Nice, big spot. Pretty crowded on a Friday evening. Lots of OH beers. Pretty good amount of seating. Service was pretty good as well.
|
88 /100 1710 N. 5TH ST Stop #1 on my B-Day tour. Run down looking block ... there was an accident on the express in, and routing took you through some sketchy ass areas. Great lagers and IPAs were pretty good too. We were there at 11 on Friday (bonus for opening so early) and the staff was very very friendly and generous. Awesome place for what the styles are. |
76 /100 8400 GERMANTOWN AVE Located in the heart of Chestnut Hill. Similar look and feel of other Iron Hill brewpubs I’ve visited. Large beer selection including some local exclusive beers. Large food menu. Good service. Enjoyed my visit. |
90 /100 1710 N. 5TH ST Visit Date 11/18/22. Great spot with lots of tasty lagers and some other beers as well. Lagers are for sure the specialty. It's a smaller spot, and I imagine gets crowded pretty easily. The food spot in the back was making tasty stuff as well. Our service was excellent. |
74 /100 1710 N. 5TH ST North of downtown, on a run-down street. The exterior is unremarkable, but inside is cozy, open, and straightforward. The bartenders were friendly and quick, and clearly enthusiastic about the beer and the proper pours. Great spread of lagers and more standard styles. Lots of stuff available in cans, too. Sandwich shop built in, but I didn't try it. Interesting place, and worth the time to find and visit. |
80 /100 Bottle Bar East (Bar) 1308 FRANKFORD AVE This is a cluttered bottle shop bar combo. The selection is quite massive, but usually there is nothing super rare or high stakes available. That said, there is a ton of beer that a beer enthusiast can get into. Given the huge selection of canned beers, checking dates on cans is crucial. Tap list is also rather extensive. Food is served as well, but I never got it. This is a place worth going to on its own or to cap off a night hitting the many nearby breweries. |
82 /100 1101 FRANKFORD AVE Medium sized bar (I can't tell if they brew anything here or if it is all in NJ) with a large round bar in the middle and tables at the flanks. A huge selection for tickers with about 30 beers on draught is available. Unfortunately, half pints are the best they will do and not on all beers. Beer quality ranges but some stuff is definitely higher tier. Bar tenders were sometimes not super helpful. To-go beers are available including barrel-aged saisons. Well worth multiple visits. Food is also pretty solid. |
64 /100 1890 WOODHAVEN ROAD Called Barrel Splitters because they split their taps with Erie Brewing (1/2 was theirs & 1/2 was Erie's beers). Industrial strip mall but nice looking inside. Food truck was out of 1/2 their food even though there really was no one else around and came in early. Average beers and nothing to make the hike out for again, but hey, it was a new place and a few new ticks. |
90 /100 1710 N. 5TH ST Like the previous reviewers , I agree that this place is outstanding. Great beers, excellent staff, an eclectic Sandwich Shop next door and an urban warehouse vibe that makes for a really great experience. Most importantly, this brewery makes and serves great beer. They are focused on traditional German and Czech styles with a smittering of IPA’s and a Stout. 12 house brews were on tap when I visited this past Saturday afternoon. I sampled the Sedlec 12 Czech Pilsner, Dreams of Organon NEIPA and Rauchschloss Smoked Lager. All were excellent! Took home another four 4 packs of other brews on my way out the door. If you’re in Philly, you must check this place out! |
58 /100 8000 ESSINGTON AVE Nice to see a taproom for a local brewery right next to my gate. Decent selection of their own brews. No food, but plenty of outlets and some TVs to watch. |
72 /100 1445 N AMERICAN ST Visit Date 11/18/22:
This was a solid spot. Smaller place. Garage door on the front kind of spot with a few seats and a small bar. Beers were solid enough. Not super crowded. Nice diversity of styles, so that's a plus. |
76 /100 1023 HAMILTON ST. A nice post industrial interior. Solid brews. Food truck inside in the back. A dozen of their own brews and cans as well. Visited during AHA 2023. |
72 /100 1776 BENJAMIN FRANKLIN PARKWAY A really large, very modern brewery in the center city. Walking distance from hotel during AHA 2023. Had a sampler, beers were middling to pretty good. Tons of tvs. Lots of their own beers, also Southern Tier. |
94 /100 Monk’s Café (Bar) 264 S 16TH ST A world class beer bar. Similar to a Dutch (or Belgian) brown bar. Center city location, weekends are packed. Tons of outstanding brews, including a solid collection of Belgians. Also world class microbrews, largely from the NE. Food was stellar. Not the best mussels I’ve had, but it’s hard to find them anywhere, especially at beer forward restaurants. Visited during AHA 2023. |
76 /100 500 SPRING GARDEN STREET Very solid, very large, very modern looking brewery. Tons of their own taps including one cask option. Visited during AHA 2023. |
52 /100 8000 ESSINGTON AVE Killed some time waiting on a flight back to UK. The typical staff for an airport bar, didn't know much about the beer but will serve you as long as you pay. They had several taps and easily killed some time. Prices was airport prices as well. |
66 /100 Giant Heirloom Market - Fashion District (Grocery Store) 801 MARKET ST The place looks amazing, about a year old, located in the ground floor of an heritage building, this is like a PA version of Whole Foods. However, instead of a bar, they have a self serve by volume wall of beer. Excellent concept, great for tickers. The big minus, all the beers tasted were showing signs of oxydation, cardboard, unpleasant. Even the Wicked Weed IPA tasted like it was in contact with oxygen. The attendant admited they may not keep up with line cleaning as much as they should. This sucks given the selection tends to be solid (local and international). Payed less than 8$ for 6 samples, a great deal (if the beers were probably managed). Beer to go selection is still solid and decently priced; this is PA so expect four or six packs... |
78 /100 Brü Craft and Wurst (Restaurant) 1318 CHESTNUT ST Last stop before heading back to PHL. More of a dive sport bar feel but with excellent tap and bottle selection. Service was good and friendly. Flight of 6 for 12$ is a deal ; 1$ up charge for rare beers. Great for high quality ticks. |
76 /100 1720 FAIRMOUNT AVENUE My penultimate stop on this trip. Located off of Fairmount Street in an affluent neighbourhood, je this place has such à cozy feel, all wooden, very continental. The service was attentive and friendly. The beers were solid to excellent, with a great porter (Perkuno's Hammer). No flights but free samples offered. Prices are 5 to 7$ (for 12 ounces to a pint), mais very reasonably priced. The food here is top notch and upscale. I had the eggs Bénédicte with scrapple, home fries and greens for 16$. Recommended. |
82 /100 1700 N PALETHORP STREET Cool small brewery off a side dead end alley in the Frankford area. Place is very rustic and authentic. Seating area is limited to 2 tables and 3 or so church pews with little tables. This place can get packed quickly. They also use the street in front as a patio and put tall standing tables for outdoor imbibing ( I assume they don't do this in the winter). Beers are very solid, focus on saisons, and sours…a 12 ounce glass will go from 4 to 8$, and i did coax a small taste from the barman. A must for sour heads. |
78 /100 2218 FRANKFORD AVE. Located in Fishtown, in an older renovated building, the taproom is white, ceramics, bright and modern. Again, more of an elongated taproom, plenty of tables as well as bar seating. Service was good. No flights, and they have this one 5 ounce sampler at a time policy; the two I had were generous pours more like 8 ounces (4 to 5$ each) whereas 12 ounces full pours where around 7-8$. They have excellent saisons, sours and IPAs. Food consists of Frankforders (hot dogs), snacks, and sandwiches. They had a pop-up kitchen the day visited with lobster sandwiches and po-boys. |
68 /100 2223 FRANKFORD AVE Located right in front of St-Oners, this is another cool spot in Fishtown. Elongated taproom, plenty of seating, a few tables, and a long bar side bar on the side, bar at the back. Older building renovated to a modern style, wooden hues, nice. Does not have the same vibes as the South Philly location, more modern. Flight of 4 for 12$, beers were well made, nothing outstanding but solid NEIPA and stout. |
80 /100 1710 N. 5TH ST Such a cool place. Located in a funky street in Frankford, this place has old school vibes (even ifs new) , large seating area, long bar seating, good service. They specialize in lagers, pils and other Germanic-Czech offerings, with a few solid IPAs. No flights or sampler glass, but they are generous on free tastes. Best deal is the Mliko pours (the Milktube!) for 3$, and all beers are 7$ per glass (10 to 16 ounces depending on style) with half pours (small bock glasses) for 5$. Food is offered by Poe’s Sandwiches on premise; the blackened chicken Korean sandwich was great. |
74 /100 1776 BENJAMIN FRANKLIN PARKWAY Place rating 1000! Good location in the DT area. Big extensive taproom, with modern design, seating over 2 floors, good service. More than 25 taps, offering Victory, as well as some Southern Tier and Sixpoint (part of the same ABInbev group). Flight of 5 for 15 tax incl is pretty good deal, with solid and varied offerings. Maybe not the best in town (the beers tend to be a bit generic per style) but good option. Food menu seemed varied with burgers and sandwich (incl Philly Cheesesteak), salads, and other entrees. |
70 /100 Whole Foods Market - Philly Center City (Grocery Store) 2101 PENNSYLVANIA AVE Good option close to the museum corridors. Located in the back of the store, the bar itself offers a dozen of taps of local brews, as well as wine by the glass. Average price for pint is 5 to 7$, flights no longered offered but tasters provided if you ask. Modern and bright, with friendly service. Lots of communal seating in the area, and food selection is whatever RTE foods sold in the supermarket (they have pizzas, sushi, noodle bar, hot and cold bar, etc...) |
80 /100 1101 FRANKFORD AVE Visited with my brother while they were still relatively new. Shiny and bright, big bar with good street views. Nice rounded selection of styles. Knocked it out of the pak on all fronts. Shame It's not a Philly brewery. |
78 /100 1002 CANAL ST This is the former Goose Island space in a formerly industrial area now surrounded by a comedy club, Brooklyn Bowl and a Fillmore. The taps are plentiful, with the quality you would expect. There is a large outdoor space for kids and dogs. Unfortunately no dogs inside because they have a very mediocre kitchen. The food we had was very bad. The fries were snippets, the cheesesteak was dry and salty, the burger was dry. We vowed to never eat there again. Staff was generally OK, but they were definitely getting pushy at last call. |
