66 /100 6120 US HWY 290 EAST Came here for dinner, food was good , abot 10 beers on tap, had a wheaty flight for $20 , 4 beers |
58 /100 51 ELGIN-BEHRENDS ROAD We went to the brewery and to the associated winery over the weekend. Neither was bad but neither was typical. I understand that the winery bought out a nearby brewery that was struggling. The brewery facility is huge, even on a busy Saturday in Fredericksburg in October, it was far from filled up. But it was a nice reprieve from all the wineries in the area. I had a decent IPA and we moved on, no reason to return. |
70 /100 6120 US HWY 290 EAST I have never seen a brewery as palatial as this one. What makes it also unusual is that it is located in a prolific area of Texas wineries. A nice retreat from the hordes of wineries, the beer they brew scores less than the surroundings it is served in. The emphasis is on German beers and really, those do not lend to being exciting. It took us a while to get our pours, there was one beertender behind the gorgeous bar and a long line of customers. Not his fault that he had it to himself, but still. I had one of their specialty beers, really nothing I could compare it to in my memory, and can say it was okay. They also have an interesting display of restored tractors, certainly worth checking out since it costs nothing extra, but this adds not much to the beer experience. A place this impressive, I expected more from the product they serve. |
62 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Quite busy during my short visit in the early afternoon. Had a flight right at the bar. Wasn't that thrilled with the beer quality since some of them were barely drinkable and had off-flavors. Wouldn't really recommend this one. |
76 /100 Der Lindenbaum (Restaurant) 312 EAST MAIN STREET Passed by in 2006, was the Biergarten, good times. I wasn’t into beer at the time. |
54 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET A hot August day in the Hill Country. Cool inside, yes, but strangely dark for a bright day outside. All tourists for clientele that we could determine. An okay beer, an okay sandwich. We left slightly underwhelmed with the pint of amber ale being the highlight of the visit. |
50 /100 6120 US HWY 290 EAST Reminded me of Von Trapp brewery in style. It was really slow when I was there, yet the staff seemed uninterested in the customers. Weird. Good beers but they all looked and tasted very similar and a little generic. Might be a lot more fun with more people around. A little more expensive than other local options. |
82 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Nice escape from the Texas heat. Really good beer and great sausages and pretzels. Flites are a great value too. |
70 /100 Auslander (Restaurant) 325 E. MAIN ST. Nice place to quaff a couple German beers with food to match. They had a couple altstadt beer and then well distributed German beers. Nice stop in for lunch cool place in the middle of hill country, |
40 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Pretty standard, large busy brewpub in a good location on Main. Oddly, though we were initially directed out back because we weren’t ordering food, we ended up squeezing in at the bar because we were told they didn’t want the glassware going back there. Then I noticed a lot of plastic cups. The seasonal was nice. The other 5 were generally below average. |
62 /100 Silver Creek Beer Garden and Grill (Restaurant) 310 EAST MAIN STREET Restaurant in a tourist town; the live musician was nice. The pork shank was excellent. Lots of Texas beers on tap with a good selection of bottles from elsewhere. Other than a couple of locals, however, they didn’t have anything I couldn’t get pretty much anywhere else. Service was good. |
72 /100 Auslander (Restaurant) 325 E. MAIN ST. If you want good beer and are really hungry- this is the place in the Texas Hill Country. This place reminds me of an old, royal German hunting club.
Order the Roulander (thin roast beef) with the German Potato salad and the red cabbage. For dessert, the Apple Strudel is marvelous.
They have about 12 beers on draft (11 European), and 44 other varieties in bottles.
We got these big glasses of German beer for only $4 and $5. I am glad that our son brought us here |
66 /100 Der Lindenbaum (Restaurant) 312 EAST MAIN STREET Visited on a Monday afternoon around 4 PM. From the outside, you get a strong German feel to the place, and that flows through to the inside as well. Our waitress had a thick German accent as well, so I felt this place might be an authentic German restaurant. The food was all German with schnitzels, sauerkraut, and various other sausages. The food was great! The beer selection was all german aside from Shiner Bock, which I think is just something you about have to carry in Texas. My only complaint is that the beer was outrageously priced. Usually $8-10 per beer. Service was very good. I would come back here again, but like this time, I would not plan to get a beer unless they came down on their prices. |
70 /100 Cultures Grill & Bar (Restaurant) 318 E. MAIN ST. Visited here in early December ’15 on a Tuesday evening while in the area for business. Casual atmosphere, kind of adobe like building. 44 beers on tap - mostly common Texas craft, a few surprises such as some from Alaskan Brewing. Pretty decent selection. Three types of food - American, German and Mexican - I chose German and had Schnitzel - very tasty. Service was prompt and friendly and the food came out very quickly. Pretty solid place. |
60 /100 H-E-B - Fredericksburg (Grocery Store) 407 S ADAMS ST Visited here in late November ’15 while in the area on a business trip. Decent mix of Texas craft in the six packs and bombers, somewhat limited number of singles unlike other H.E.B.s I have visited recently. Several aisles and coolers of craft to choose from in six packs. Decently priced. Served my needs to provide me with some Texas ticks while in town. |
54 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET I’ve been here a few times. They have 5 beers on tap (4 regulars and a seasonal). The beers are alright. The food is pretty good. I like the Biergarten area. It’s a nice place to sit and drink while the ladies (or men who enjoy such things) peruse the shops outside. They serve the beer mostly in plastic cups, which is sorta odd, but it’s still beer. |
36 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET This place featured some of the worst service I have encountered. Inexcusably, they served my wife and I in plastic cups and told us we had to sit in the biergarten because the bar was full and we couldn’t have a table unless we ordered food. The service was also very slow. The price on this weak beer is inflated too. |
76 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET they have good beer and good food. the servicce can get a tad bit slow when they are extremely busy. but all togethor a fun place to go and hang out. |
68 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Stopped by here over Memorial Day weekend. Fairly large brewpub on Main Street, right near the main shopping district as well as the two World War II museums. Sat out back in the biergarten and got the sampler tray of beers, which were decent. Didn’t have the food, but my brother did and he said the burger was very good. Not a place to seek out, but a decent Hill Country brewpub that is within 45 minutes of Pecan Street and Double Horn, making for an easy mini-brewpub tour. |
72 /100 Texas Wine Cellars (Beer Store) 217 1/2 MAIN STREET Little wine/beer store bin middle of Fburg. Neat old building. Small in size but great selection of Texas beers and you can make a mixed six pack. Expensive |
28 /100 Auslander (Restaurant) 325 E. MAIN ST. Ambiance - wanna-be German beer garden tourist trap.
Service - stood at the door waiting for someone to greet us. Finished perusing the beer list before they greeted us, so we left.
Selection - A lot of German beers, which is nice. But the only craft beer were from Real Ale. |
44 /100 Silver Creek Beer Garden and Grill (Restaurant) 310 EAST MAIN STREET Touristy bar on Fredericlsburg’s main drag.
Ambiance - it’s a typical bar; had live music on Sunday afternoon but the guy couldn’t sing.
Service - adequate, nothing more.
Selection - Only 1 local beer on tap. Three IPAs even in bottles, but at least they were food IPAs. |
62 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET a very average place-average beer, average service, average tourist clients which is a recipe for boring. however, their back beer garden is kind of cool. Beer is all average at best yet they still win awards? I dont get it. If your in town, stop by however, dont go out of your way-its not worth it. |
64 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Visited mid-afternoon for beers and food during a quick one day visit of the Texas Wine Country. The wait was over an hour, so we had a beer in back, then ate at the bar when two spots opened up. The location of the Brewery is nice, right in the center of a very active town. I can imagine this is a good spot to hang out as the rest of the party shops and wanders around town. The front part of the restaurant had a lot of character, large bar on one side, a bunch of tables on the other. The unique part of the place is the rear indoor Biergarten. Its massive back there, with a dozen large picnic tables, a bar, and several large TVs showing sports. They had 5 beers (I believe) on when I visited - standard + an IPA. The beers were decent enough. Both my wife and I ate - I had the pizza and she ordered the Schnitzel. Service was good, attentive and quick with the orders. Both were solid. If you are in the area, this place is certainly worth the stop. 64 = ★★ (Just ok) I only use the total score, not the component parts. |
62 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Finally made the time to visit this joint, with the old lady in tow. Strip mall/German/industrial feel of the joint, it’ll work. Server was fast enough, and was good enough, enough about that. Brews- 5 standard with a rotating one- decent enough, but we both agreed that the food was better than beer. Food- awesome portion size for the price, but we hadn’t ate all day so we weren’t overly picky at that point. We’ll be back- get a beer in Dripping Springs, eat at the place down the block, get another beer here. That’ll work. |
48 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Pretty cool place to stop and have a beer. Neat old building with the brew kettles right there at the bar. They have 6 or 7 beers that are brewed on site, but the selection rarely changes and usually includes a pale ale, IPA, pils, helles, wheat, a porter and some type of red ale. Overall, the beers are fair with a couple of them standing out among the rest (they are award winners at GABF). I’d suggest getting the sampler so you can try them all before making your choice. You can get a growler to go and its open consumption on the streets. Unless you are starving to death and there are no other restaurants open do not eat here. The food is below average. Of course, if you’ve had a few too many beers you may think the food is wonderful! There is a bed-n-breakfast upstairs if you choose to drink yourself silly and just want to stumple into bed. |
72 /100 Silver Creek Beer Garden and Grill (Restaurant) 310 EAST MAIN STREET Nice place for some good brews. Tap selection is not too great, but for bottles (Great Divide, Sierra Nevada, Avery, DFH, Saint Arnold, etc.) it’s pretty decent. You won’t find anything here not readily available in Texas, but for the out-of-towner it’s not bad. I didn’t eat any food while there, but they have a full menu of German/American food. Ask for Joe in the patio bar. Good guy. |
68 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET stopped here for dinner last night. the burger was awesome the brews were drinkable and everyone i went with left happy. |
86 /100 Texas Wine Cellars (Beer Store) 217 1/2 MAIN STREET i was very impressed with selection when i walked in. i was actually walking down to the brewery and then saw the selection and had to come in. i was offered samples and tips on good beers. the were a little pricey but overall it was well worth it. next time i’m in fredericksburg i’ll definitely be stopping in again. |
66 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Always crowded, but always good beer and good times. Food is adquate, but the beer and good times is what you go there for. |
52 /100 Texas Wine Cellars (Beer Store) 217 1/2 MAIN STREET fair selection and considering the location in a rather small tourist town is next to amazing. didn’t have the time to really dig, but as there’s a set number of iotems that can be found in the whole state, there wasn’t much of a reason to get a shovel |
72 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Nice place to stop and have a meal and a beer. Nice atmosphere and surprisingly busy for a friday afternoon. Decent beers, worth a stop if you’re in the area. |
54 /100 Auslander (Restaurant) 325 E. MAIN ST. Texas/Bavaria ambience. All German brews with german food. Decent Frau service. If you are in Fburg, stop in. |
46 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Decent beers, decent food, shitty service.
|
78 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Great Beers during the Christmas Holiday season. Their barley wine/ holiday ale was awesome. I like their darker brews, but they have to brew the lighter stuff in the summer for the dips that want "something that tastes like REAL beer." Those guys piss me off. Keep up the good work at the small brewery! We need more of you guys. |
76 /100 Texas Wine Cellars (Beer Store) 217 1/2 MAIN STREET Great selection of singles everytime I go, I always find something I either haven’t had, or I find something I have never heard of. Which, I guess, is redundant to write. The owner is a cool guy that knows his beer. It’s great to go to a place and buy a single of something you don’t want to buy a sixer of (Asahi). Just found a couple of Gueze beers there. Prices are a little steep, but it’s cheaper than trading or flying. Plus, they usually get stuff a good 2 months before Houston... The entrance is on the left hand side where the realty office entrance next door (on the right, if you’re looking at it) is. Kinda tricky. |
76 /100 Judy’s Liquor (Beer Store) 411 S WASHINGTON Last time I was there, they had 3 different vintages of Real Ale Sysiphus (’03, ’04, 05) . Had some other quality stuff as well. Worth a peek to see if they still carry the Sysiphus. This place looks like any other cheap liquor store from the outside, but on the inside they have a nice selection of good domestics and imports. Plus, it’s right across the street from Opa’s Meat Market. Good beer and yummy meats, all within walking distance. Yet another reason to visit this lovely town. |
100 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET The very BEST in microbrew beer. Worth the 70 miles from San Antonio. Slim pickens on good microbrew beer in the San Antonio area, so must drive the 70 miles to Fredericksburg. We are from Portland Oregon (the land of microbrews), so we have a hard time adjusting to the limited choices of good beer in Texas. But Fredericksburg Brewing company wins hands down. Also they give you healthy portions of food or nachos here, you will never feel ripped off at this place ... I recommend it highly. |
34 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET horrible service, just horrible. Chincy, the waiter was not bringing his a game. he had time to care for his chin mullett though. they kept trying to take my food away as i discussed hand jobs with walt and his girlfriend. you should have seen the stares from the bluehairs as walt laced every sentence with a beautifully crafted vulgarity or 3. the food was mediocre the beers were too. but the company was superb. |
56 /100 Auslander (Restaurant) 325 E. MAIN ST. Nothing too spectacular. Offerings leaning mostly to the German imports which should be an obvious choice for anyone paying attention. Very enjoyable place when friends and former boss are in attendance and he’s putting the tab on his company card. |
78 /100 Auslander (Restaurant) 325 E. MAIN ST. Wonderful lil’ place within walking distance of everything on Main Street. Nice staff, good selection, relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful town. A must stop for any visit to Fredericksburg. Plus, the owner went to my high school, B.F. Terry High School in Rosenber, TX. Not that that should matter, but it’s kinda cool to meet someone from your alma mater (even if you could give a retarded llamas butt about your high school alma mater) in such a random corner of the world. |
76 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET A must for any visit to this town. Good beer but food is too pricey for the quality/quantity one receives. Go for the beer; eat at Auslander’s. |
64 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET The town is getting a bad rap here - you folks must have never been to some of the souvenier traps found in the Smokies! At least this town has real authentic buildings and a few wine shops - which sell beer and you can walk around town with it open. Anyway, big beer hall in the back with huge screen TVs is great, beers were above average for a brewpub - I though the "The Giant Imperial Stout" was excellent. Good way to cool off after walking around the gift shops. Did not try the food. |
44 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET Not much to look at inside, and I agree with Fly that in general, the town is very overrated. But the beer was not bad and we stayed in one of the rooms upstairs and it was quite &quo;rustic&quo;. Staff was fairly friendly, but also very interested in each other, if you know what I mean. Food was good. |
28 /100 245 EAST MAIN STREET All I can say is that everytime I go the only beer that seems interesting to me (IPA or other seasonal) will be ready "in about two weeks". Nice people - over rated city. Head to the hills people. |
