“Made the pilgrimage to this piece of Texas & Beer history, surprisingly small given the volume they put out. Friendly guided tour, with samples after.“

“You would think that with distribution to over 40 states, and me seeing Stroh’s brewery in it’s heyday, you would think that it would be a huge place. It’s not- a very small brewery that I drove by-twice. Stopped by for the early 10am summer tour, which allowed me to pick over the tourguide’s brain since the other 5 people there were only itching for something to drink. Got to see the inside of the brewhouse itself- they were making batches (Black Lager) as we were walking by. 24 hour operation was what I was told, with them getting in 4 new 5000 gallon fermenters next month- and they were running close to capacity now. Got the free samples ("No Alt?" Was told it’s been it’s most popular request since being shortly released) - milled around a bit... why all the hate Texans? Take some pride in it- not a whole lot breweries that opened before Prohibition are left, and that are halfway decent to consume now.“

“Nice, old brewery with a lot of history, which the locals are proud to share. The brewery tour, which is free, runs a little long..then you are itching to get down to the tap room, only to receive a couple small pulls from the taps. Shiner beer isn’t amazing, but it is drinkable and tastes fine, and much better than the light beers from the big 3. The gift shop is really nice, and has lots of souvenirs with the Shiner logo. If you are in Texas, GO! It was about 1 1/2 hr outside Houston.“

“This brewery holds alot of history in relation to the German influence on brewing, life, and foods in the central Texas area. The beer samples and tour were free, the gift shop is reasonably priced. It’s a short, but informative tour....keep in mind, you’re touring a small brewery, not AB or Coors. Shiner is a friendly, typical small Texas town....be sure to try Friday’s Restaurant just up the street from the brewery for a great meal.“

“Great stop for any Texas beer fan, a must for Shiner Beer fans. The tour was free with five free samples given. Walked into the sample room/gift shop and was greated by "Want a Beer?" What more could you ask for?“

“Wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to get there, but if you are passing through a stop at the brewery is essential. I think the price of admission was about 5 bucks and you get several tokens for samples. The tour is not all that informative and they hit on my biggest pet peeve by pronouncing wort as if it was the growth on someone’s foot and not WERT. The beers are good but dont expect to be wowed.“

“As with many in Texas , I pretty much started drinking better beer with big help from Shiner beers so living in Houston I might as well make the long drive to Shiner and take a tour.. The people in Shiner do seem nice, we got lost and they pointed the way, we pull up and see a clean cut brewery, looks good! ... We walk inside and are treated to a short tour with the usual stops, not that informative but not terrible.. the smell of malt can be detected in the air... the tasting at the end is fun-ish.. nothing secretive about it, and when i asked about the 99, they had no clue what i was really talking about.??.... overall a nice little simple tour but not worth a few hours drive.. and on another note, what has happened to the new Shiner beers? .the 98 was barely passable, the 99 was god awful and their new Leicht is one of the worst beers on the market.. i shudder to think what the 100th anniversary beer will be...“

“If you came from a small town and love beer, you need to find your way to Shiner when you’re in Texas. Tours are on the weekdays because that’s when they work. It is a perfect "first brewery tour" for semi-interested relatives, but won’t hold up to repeated listenings by the already converted. The town is geared for beer and ANYONE in town or at the brewery is happy to meet you, and glad to talk with you. Just take the samples, and enjoy the anachronism of a town build around their very own brewery.“

“My wife and I drove way out into the middle of nowhere to go on the tour here. What torture! The tour guide had the most irritating, grating delivery I’ve ever had on any tour anywhere; it’s become an inside joke between us to mimic her overly scripted and theatrical speeches. The gift shop at the entrance is tiny and way overpriced. At least at the end they had a nice brand new tasting room to savor a sip or two. Shiner Bock was one of the beers that helped me on my way towards beer awakening, so I have to be thankful to them. And every once in a while we’ll enjoy their Kolsch or something. Worth a visit if you’re bored in south Texas.“

“The hours make it difficult to go (unless it’s changed - weekdays and only til 3 or 4) but if there’s some reason you find yourself out thisuh way, wayull hayull, gwon in an have yorseff a cornladen bock or whatever they be serving. I doubt Mr. Simms is still there. He was the 90 year old guy that always manned the taps. Sigh. And if I were rating this from the point that I LIKED their beer I would give it the highest rating from the time they re-opened after hours and stayed until dark drinking with the brewmaster.“
