“Pretty place overlooking a lake. The taplist is OK, with a few good but easily available beers and a few rotaters from Aslin and some other localish breweries. Staff is friendly and the food was pretty good. I had the Poboy. Prices a little above average. Sat in the patio, which is heated in the winter. Better for a toddler out there. Sports bar section has lots of TVs while the other half has an English publike feel. There's also a cigar room. Good for food and ambiance, with OK craft beer selection.“

“Fun place with inside and outside seating and a build in taco joint which has very good food. Beer quality is above average. Well worth a visit.“

“Visited 2/2020. Very hard to get by walking from hotels near! Nice crowded place on Monday. Samples/flights for tickers for reasonable price and nice taco desk at the same location.“

“Cool, lively place with some good beer and pretty good service. Livelier than their other location. Everything is available on flights or 4oz individual pours. Tacos are absolutely phenomenal. Beers are very good too, all above average for the most part.“

“Different from original location in every way. Beer has been stepped up, and the inhouse taco biz is legit. Get the corn nuggets. Really.“

“Nice location, much, much larger than their original spot in Leesburg. Place has a large, warm and inviting tasting room, with view of the brewhouse behind glass windows. Something like 10 drafts are on tap, almost at all times, with some other beers sometimes in their to-go cooler that might not be on tap. Food isn't exactly theirs, but Senor Ramon's is attached to it, with a window that you order from inside. I've only sampled what other people have bought, but what I've had tastes as great as it looks. Definitely a go-to for me now.“

“Been two times so far. Nice second location for Crooked Run. Small but ample sized taproom with a bunch of table seating and a small bar. Plenty of free parking in the lot. Friendly service. There’s a line to order beers from at the center of the bar but if you’re sitting at the bar, you can order from where you’re sitting. Guess it’s more to keep people at tables from swarming the whole bar. Around 10 drafts to choose from, flights available in sets of 5 ($11) or 6 ($13). Reasonable prices. They don’t actually make their own food but they share the taproom space with a little taqueria called Senor Ramon, pretty tasty stuff. Well worth a stop especially on a Loudoun County brewery crawl and Beltway Brewing is just 1-2 minutes on the other side of South Sterling Boulevard.“

“This is the newest location for this brewery. Their original one is still in Leesburg and a great place to visit if you ever get a chance. My understanding is Leesburg will still brew but small limited release batches. The main operations are now moved to Sterling. So new place with a rather large tasting room which is cool. Exposed ceiling and polished concrete floors. Back bar and bar are rather interesting. Pretty decent number of taps when we visited and certainly room to grow. The new brewing operations are right behind the bar, you can in fact get a good look at it from the side. Mostly high top tables but some bench seating at the front and a small couch tucked away in the corner. Food is offered from the onsite Senor Ramon Taqueria which was really good. A good variety of tacos and sides. Both spots accept credit cards. The original location has a lot of charm but this new location is a much bigger and modern brewing operation you typical find now.“

Wegmans - Sterling (Grocery Store)
45131 COLUMBIA PLACE
Updated review: (11/21/2015) Beer is still in the same area of the store around the back center, they’ve added a section in the back with two sides of singles to pick out for custom six packs. Pretty decent selection of bombers too with local, regional, and import craft beer. Also one island dedicated to local craft beer including Lost Rhino, Lickinghole Creek, Three Notch’d, Hardywood, etc. Selection might be a bit better than the one in Alexandria. Prices are pretty good, picked up a bomber of Brooklyn Black Ops for $19. I’d say it’s worth a stop if you’re passing by down Waxpool Road, maybe not a must stop off of 28.

Old review (6/15/2014): Occasionally stop by on my work break if I’m looking for something in particular. Pretty solid selection of beer and they tend to get some limited/uncommon releases. Food is pretty decent, hot bar as well as hot or microwaveable dinner meals. Reasonable prices. Friendly service whenever I’ve had to ask. Plenty of parking in the dedicated lot, can get congested trying to get back out towards Waxpool Road. Wouldn’t go out of my way to stop here unless you need something else or are in the plaza already.“

“I toyed with whether to add this place since nobody has yet, but their slogan is "Craft Wings, Craft Beer" they run 2 dozen taps with a lot of craft in addition to the BMC brands. Focus is on local stuff, and they hit a lot of the smallish local breweries. They even have their own branded Session IPA, brewed at Beltway Brewing. I am also a sucker for good wings, and I thought these were pretty solid. Other than that, it is your standard chainy wing place, but its nice to know that you can get a good beer at at least one of them.“

“Super crowded on a Tuesday night but only took less than 10 minutes to be seated. Place is pretty big with an old western vibe. They weren’t serving their signiature pale ale when we went so they were down to 4 taps. The food was good enough but the beers were built for the masses. Nothing amazing.“

“Skipped the wine section of course and focused on the beers. Very good selection of US beers and different countries. I got three new countries and five new states. Good service. Agree that it is not very organized. They have tried to split it by beer style, then alphabetically, but they must be using a different local alphabet. Good prices, though imports a tad expensive.“

“Seems smaller than the other Total Wine locations in VA and MD. Good selection of beers in singles and packs, plus some gems that sell out quickly at the local mom & pop type shops. Most of the craft beer is along the left side of the store towards the back and along the endcaps in the middle and back. Prices are good, selection does seem kind of unorganized. Friendly staff.“

“Located next to an Afghan restaurant overlooking a man-made lake. (That’s not a sentence you type out everyday.) this place is actually three in one. They have a wood panel steakhouse room with an attached bar, a cigar bar with outside seating, and a massive sports bar that has an adjoining patio with a nice view. They have some solid taps but this place is more about the vibe and sells enough craft beer to not be completely bored.“

“Five of their own beers on tap, two fixed and three seemingly rotating over 30 or so different seasonal/specials. Nice outside bar area and attentive service inside. Food is pretty good, but not special. Samplers of their five beers on tap is recommended.“

“This was a pleasant surprise. Visiting friends in Potomac Falls, this is their local wine merchant. Having read previous reviews, I knew this place offered a wide range of 12oz singles, and this proved to be the case. The beers came from across the USA, at decent prices and offering the full range of styles. I certainly felt no need to look at the foreign imports or six packs. having said that, this place covers all the needs of my English immigrant friend, with many Suffolk beers available. Staff were friendly and efficient at the checkout. A great shop.“

“As noted, head straight for the back of the store. There are various "display" stacks in the aisles on the way back but the bulk of the beer is on back. Selection is very, very good. If you can't find a beer you like here, you probably don't like beer. I found some things I had not seen before like Mikkeller Spontanwildstrawberry and Morland Old Crafty Hen. Beer is grouped in a semi-logical way by style/region. At least there is some rhyme or reason to it. Staff was helpful, they searched and tried to locate two or three things for me.“

“Located in a large shopping center near a really large mall close to a completely useless airport. Imagine a cut rate Pier Six except with food and wine and you’re close. The beer selection is small, certainly compared to the wine, but it has some quality national and international craft with a few locals though nothing rare. They also have a pick 6 section and inexpensive glassware. Prices are very reasonable considering the area. Not at a destination place but you could certainly do worse in the area.“

“The outside bar was closed, and the inside bar was packed. So I sat on the outdoor terrace with a view of the "lake." Service was actually excellent, even though it was very crowded at lunchtime, and the server knew the beers, the brewing process and upcoming events pretty thoroughly. Five beer samplers were $8.50. Of the two staple beers, the light lager was boring, but the pale ale was decent, and the rest were very solid. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations.“

“I love these huge megastores that we don’t have in my home state of PA. This place had rows and rows of individual bottles, then a row of six packs, a row of cases and some coolers with cold beer. Found some great stuff not available in PA and the prices were about half. Nice store, but was slightly disappointed that the VA stores didn’t sell spirits“

“Sat at the bar of the outdoor patio which had a nice view of the artificial, man-made lake. They have the typical 6 beer color palate brew pub selection. We went on a Friday night where the service was a bit dodgy. I hate having to ask for water multiple times. I also hate it when our bartender disappears for30 minutes at a time. The crowd was a typical under 30 crowd who enjoys smoking and talking over really loud noise. Many of the folks there didn’t seem to be into the beer. The food was decent though nothing to write home about. It wasn’t a bad experience but there was nothing particularly special about it either.“

“sat at the outdoor bar. The bartender was pushing the mixed drinks (at a brew pub? why?), forgetful, and kept disappearing with no one taking his place. The house beer was OK, not great, and the food was nothing to come back for. Disappointing, hopefully the other locations where better.“

Wegmans - Sterling (Grocery Store)

“Seemed new, but a typical Wegman’s, meaning it’s a monstrosity with everything you can imagine and maybe a few things you need. Pretty good beer selection. A decent sized singles selection, though it never occurred to the employees stocking it I might actually want to buy something, so they never moved and I never got a good look. Prices, parking, customer service are all in line with a big grocery store.“

“Ambience is typical Total Wine. As is parking. Customer service is slightly better than average. The selection is disorganized like hell, though I came on a Saturday so that wasn’t doing them any favors. Good selection though, better than your typical Total Wine in quanity and even a little better in quality. Pretty good Total Wine.“

“Finally visited the last of the three Sweetwater Tavern locations. Nice vibe here. The typical Southwestern decor, but more natural light than I remember from the other locations (and I visited both in the day) leading to a more open feel. Nice looking outdoor bar, though I sat inside. Did not eat. Customer service sucked. Whoever is managing this place is not doing a good job with the staff. One girl was running herself ragged doing everything while everyone else was disinterested and lazy. Parking was ample. The beers kinda sucked but I only tried two of the options. Despite the nicer decor, I’ll be patronizing the other two locations in the future.“

“Only 25% of the store is beer, and the staff is attentive, but doesn’t know anything about beer. That said, the selection is pretty much everything available in the area from a beer standpoint. It mostly sorted correctly in to categories so you can find what you are seeking. Most of their sixers are available for BYO sixer packs. In November - December they have about 20 beer gift sets from Ommegang, Troegs (Mad Elf!), among others.“

“It looks like a supermarket except they sell nothing but wine and beer. As the name implies the store is about 2/3 wine and 1/3 beer. They have a nice selection of imported and craft beers and a number of large bottles. They do encourage you to make your own six pack with everything they offer as a sixer available which seems fairly unprecedented. Their selection is better than Wegman’s but only through sheer volume and not quality. Prices are very reasonable for the area.“

“Nicely decorated corporate restaurant in a corporate area of town. The place was all but empty at 3:30 PM, so the service was attentive without being overly aggressive. Five house beers were available along with an assortment of other beverages. The beer was average, with nothing too spectacular. The food was good and the menu terse, with the prices being typical of a large restaurant.“

“I recently went to Sweetwater after a significant hiatus. The is always fairly solid, but a bit overpriced in my mind. The staff is friendly but not overly knowledgeable about the beer they serve. The beer can be hit or miss depending on the style you get. I look forward to having the imperial stout whenever it shows back up at this location. You can definitely do worse in terms of places to go for a beer and something to eat.“

“Sitting at the outside bar on a saturday night. Seemed to be a pretty popular destination, but this lead to being a bit loud and crowded. They offer a sampler of the 5 beers they have on tap for about $8. The beer was definitely tasty, but was served a bit too cold for some styles (especially the imperial stout). The food was tasty, but a bit pricy for what little you get. The staff was friendly, and seemed to have quite a few regulars. Overall a decent spot to catch a beer if you’re in the area.“

Didnt’ try the food, but the menu didn’t look that interesting in either case. Good place to hang at the bar and talk, but that’s if you don’t get towel whipped by the bartender and drowned in bleach.“
