“A must-stop in Virginia Beach, both for the beef and pizza. Wings were solid too. Obligatory if you're in the area.“

“Looks like there's two distinct areas to this place. The place has the feel of an old 1950s storefront, like this place used to sell fans or furniture or something. Front bar was big and spacious, though I only walked through there to go to the bathroom. I drank in the back bar, which opened up to a patio. Looks like a fun place. Beers ranged from standard to unique (and mostly good).“

“This might be the coolest breweries I've been to, maybe ever. Went at night so I didn't really get a good sense of the entire property, but it's a restored 1912 house, with a huge beer garden in the surrounding property. Encountered at least 3 bars inside the house, there may have been places to get beer outside too. Beer is a bit unrefined, but there's a wide variety of styles, which makes this a really cool place.“

“Huge facility. I won't go into the background of the place, but New Realm is clearly a good tenant. Huge outdoor space with outdoor bar. Inside was spacious, with large bar and plenty of tables. Beers were standard mid-brewery beers, with a few standouts. Way too many beers on tap to cover adequately in one trip. Visited at the tail-end of COVID restrictions in 2021, so experience may not have been what it was and hopefully now is.“

“Visited here for dinner, parked in parking lot. Restaurant sized place with large bar and brewing equipment. Sat outside. Lots of beers, mostly German styles. Pizza was really tasty, other foods were good too.“

“Visited there about a year ago. Place is a nice old building, apparently a old Fire Station. Great tap selection, nice large flight staves when I visited. Loved the big wooden tables. Place filled up quickly on a Summer Saturday. Line for beers got log, but moved quickly.“

“Nice location, a decent selection of beer love the ambiance. You can buy some beer in cans to go. They don’t serve food but you can order up from places nearby including Jessy’s Taqueria“

“The #5 Three Notch'd location, taking over the former Gordon Biersch spot in the center of Virginia Beach's shopping district. They completely redid the interior, interestingly. Biersch's layout was better, I think. This now features an oval, two-level bar in the center of a big dining area. The music was blaringly loud. Sat the bar and ate. Bartender was attentive enough and friendly. Extensive tap list includes both Three Notch'd standards from C-ville, plus a handful brewed on site only for Virginia Beach. Three Notch'd makes some pretty sturdy brews, including here. Food was standard American pub fare, decent and freshly prepared. Fries were soggy and overly salty though. Brewery #925.“

“Located very close to the bustling beach and boardwalk area, this is a an easy walk for area visitors. On this particular visit, the bartender was super friendly and attentive. But they only had 3 offerings on tap. Everything was out, or only available in cans (which you can also get to go). They have some unusual offerings, some of which are worth an excursion. Brewery #924.“

“Never went to the original spot. This one is in a bit of an odd spot, some kind of old, refurbished storefront or commercial space. Nothing fancy, but clean and homey. Has quite the "regulars" vibe, even on Christmas Eve. Some odd choices on tap, all of which kinda came across as homebrew club offerings. Worth a stop if nearby. Brewery #923.“

“INteresting property. Tight off one of the major thoroughfares, amidst housing and some commercial development sits this old restored farmhouse, beautifully restored, with lots of interesting spaces inside to sit and drink. Spacious exterior seating area too, with multiple food trucks on site. Easy parking. Lots of class here and good sleection of taps.“

“In the same industrial park as reaver Beach, it's a great 2 for 1 visit. Same industrial park as Reaver Beach, garage door with seating inside and out. A little bit more modern here, and their artwork is top notch. Roaring jets overhead added to the vibe.“

“A stone's throw from Chix Beach, this place looks like it might've been an old garage or something, allowing for some great open-air beer sipping on a sunny day. They have a gargantuan tap list, heavily tilted toward big, double IPAs during our visit. All 4 beers we tried were excellent, staff was friendly. Will go back for sure. Brewery #915.“

“Small place down near Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Stopped in for a flight here. Police-themed, I think the owners are ex-cops. Nice line up of traditional style beers that doesn't get bogged down in trends the way a lot do these days. Nice patio on a good summer night as well. Friendly bartender. Beer is OK.“

“I have a bit of a mixed feeling about this place. On the one hand, the location and area is beautiful. Massive place, with lots of outdoor space great for this COVID-19 life. Live music outside, love the fire pits etc. Rotating tap list with interesting sounding beers, lots of quads and tripels etc. Now the only drawback is the beer. How did a company which makes such rough beer manage to invest so much in a place like this? Their stuff is mostly below average. Really couldn't help but wish that Green Flash had hung on in the location, which they built.“

“Cool place with some pretty good beer. Friendly staff and nice open place with lots of airy spaces in the back. A good mixture of Belgian stuff and other IPAs and more popular styles here, and most are done pretty well. A good easy bounce from Commonwealth down the street. They did half pints when I was there (COVID time) but no flights.“

“Cool journalism themed place - my kind of digs. In a small stripmall not too far from Commonwealth and Pleasure House. They only had two decent styles when I was there and a whole bunch of fluff. The stout and IPA were good, the fluff was fluff. Friendly service, prices decent. Not doing flights right now due to pandemic but they give plenty of free samples.“

“Cool place with live music, a great sushi food truck and decent beer. Friendly place, even during COVID. They are also one of the few that still do flights of beer, for all you starved tickers out there. Beer was mostly good, and the food truck had some amazing sushi. The live music was a little wack, but I can't imagine there's a lot of choice on a Wednesday in Va. beach. Walking distance from Back Bay and Bunker. Friendly service, and great outdoor patio.“

“Bar close to the beach that serves as the brewpub of Young Veterans brewery. They had a few of their own beers and a handful of guest taps as well. Friendly service in a large place that kind of lacks character. Beer was decent, and the crab soup was really nice. Would go here again based on proximity to the beach.“

“What an odd place. Most of the parking lot is valet only. You get a hand stamp on entering. Pretty dead on a Monday, but non valet parking still a challenge. Farmhouse is indeed a farm house. Two bars, both tiny. No half pours or flights offered. Food trucks outside. 12 taps, good variety. Apparently only porta potties (pink ones at that). Minimal indoor seating, extensive picnic area for outdoor (no, you cannot bring in food from the outside). Beer variation good, quality tbd. A lot to like about this place, but they are doing a good job at fucking it up. Valet parking and porta potties should never mix. Serving space would be drowned on busy nights. At least offer half pours, for fucks sake. With 90 percent of seating out side, winters and storms must be fun. In short, i am conflicted.“

“Very unique setting, on a two acre lot that you'd never know is just off a main thoroughfare. In their first month of business when I visited on a crisp, sunny fall day, the place was swarming with maybe 500 people. We were lucky to score a parking space on the grounds. Thankfully their outdoor picnic areas could accommodate the crowd, because there's no way the small, historic house could take in more than a couple dozen. With two food trucks and a beverage service truck on scene as well, the place took on the feeling of a beer festival. They offer both housemade beers and ciders, along with some select wines. The beers on this day leaned toward fruity Belgians, along with some tried and true stuff. We tried a couple beers, both of which were OK but didn't stand out either, so we didn't feel the need to stand in line for another 10 minutes. Will be interesting how this place does when the weather isn't quite as cooperative. Brewery #859.“

“Located in the old Green Flash Brewery, they have live music from 6-10 PM on weekends, food trucks, outside bar, seating inside. Service is slow, and you can’t buy more than one beer if the rest of your party is not visible. What’s annoying and slows things down is even when the line up is 20 feet deep they still serve flights. Either have a separate area for flights or don’t serve them when you are busy.“

Mix it Up (Beer Store)
2973 SHORE DRIVE
“Mix it up is a block from Pleasure house; another mall location next door to an ABC store. The bottle side is unimpressive. Certainly less than the 500 bottles advertised. Some random wind and alocpop products mixed in. No coolers, which made the shelf of IPA's kinda sad. Taproom side may have 50 taps (although that number seems high to me), but on my visit at least a dozen were empty. More importantly, the only information about what is on tap is scribbled on the bar in front of the taps in grease pen. Rather annoying, particularly since customers tend to hang out there to drink their beers, which makes figuring out what they have painfully slow. Really dumb idea, people. Fairly cramped space with oddly loud music playing. Customer service was first rate, however, and they offer free tiny little samples of anytihng. I thought the selection was so-so, about half VA taps, and half an eclectic selection of "other" beers. There is a back patio outside on sand where dogs are apparently allowed. In then end I have a hard time giving this place a good score, but they could really improve their game with a few small changes, like an LCD tap board, perhaps even one that shows the current state of the keg.“

“A bit out of the way, but a nice place. Certainly not large inside. Its basically a bar motif with a main bar that seats about 12. Pennies under laquer is a good touch. About 7 tables and a back bench as well. Wait, there is a second room, the "patio area" that would seat at least as many at picnic table seating, so that is good. Parking out front. 16 taps, good range of styles available. 5 bottles and 2 cans to go when I was there as well. To go bottles were all sours, a style that RB appears to do well from my samples. Flights of four available; price ranges from 6-10$ depending on your choices. Friendly and helpful service. Beer quality was pretty high overall. No grand slams were hit on my visit, but no strikeouts either. My scores ranged from 3.6-4.1 for a variety of beers in multiple styles. This is certainly a place to watch. I think this place is quality and bears watching.“

“A nice ambiance, military theme, service can be slow but it is definitely busy on a Friday evening. Food is good and while they have a lot of beer on tap and some rotating taps most of them are old familiars. If you have a military ID or are in uniform you will get a discount and some of their profits go to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.“

“Awesome brewery, both in vibe and in the quality of the beer they do. Came here on an afternoon after going to the beach. Beers were excellent all around, whether hoppy eastern style IPAs or Belgian styles. Had pit beef from a Baltimore food truck that was good, but didn’t rate food since it wasn’t brewery’s. Picnic table seating. Good, friendly service. They do flights of everything. Nice stuff. I also spilled beer from the flight holder like bytemesis.“

“Suburban heaven. This place has the look and feel of a chain brewpub for sure. Parking available, a bit fullish but available. Super busy on a Monday evening, but I found a spot at the bar. Monday is trivia night, apparently, which has a large impact on server availability and food throughput. German stylings pervade the beer lineup. 10 taps or so on, all available as sample sized pours for a reasonable price. They have flight trays of four or seven, but you can just order the number you want. Beer quality ranged from pretty bad to decent. One of the bad ones was an Altbier however, which was a bummer. I thought the pizzas were good and reasonably priced; though I agree with Braudog that some of the food items were pricey. Service was ok, but one of the three guys behind the bar was doing 90% of the lifting, which slowed things down for sure.“

“First stop of the evening. A bit out of the way, but clearly some money in this operation. Decent amount of parking. Large seating area with long communal tables. Small bar. Flights of 6 available, served in this welded metal flight tray that is kinda cool. Very good service overall. Military discounts means that there is a strong military presence herein. They were closing at six the day i was there for a private event, but doing a pretty good business leading up to that. No food that I was aware of. Beer quality was not so great, average to bad across the six I sampled.“
